Document Library: Changing Properties
by Jason C. Leach 29 Nov '01

29 Nov '01

hi, I have 108 documents in a Document Library (product). I need to go through them all and set one propertie equal to another. Something like document.x = document.y. I figure this is a good time to learn python scripting in zope. I don't know how to get the documents into my script, then back out. Any help would be appreciated. Question about Ram Cache
by Chris Kratz 29 Nov '01

29 Nov '01

Hello All, Recently, we have been doing a lot more caching of various parts of our website. We have noticed two times over the last week that after a restart and a long period of relative inactivity (overnight) that one of the pages has gotten corrupted. Invalidating the page in the ram cache and forcing it to reload takes care of the problem. The first time the HTML was corrupted (parts were missing) and in the second case, none of the images (which are also cached) would show even though those same images on other areas of the website displayed correctly. The page is quite simple and includes only static text with a header and footer that is generated with a date and the generation time for the page. The only REQUEST variable is AUTHENTICATED_USER which means that all anonymous views get the same cached page. Here are the other settings we are using: Threshold entries: 1000 Max Age: 3600 Cleanup interval: 300 Also, there are no Names from the DTML namespace currently being used as cache keys on the page in question. Since this is such a basic application of the Ram Cache, I am a little surprised that we would be seeing this type of behavior. Anyone have any ideas why this might be happening? RH 7.2, Zope 2.4.1, Python 2.1.1 Thanks, -Chris ------------------------------ Chris Kratz chris.kratz(a)vistashare.com

I have this dtml-if tag: <dtml-if expr="REQUEST.PATH_TRANSLATED == '/folder1/subfolder1'"> This is true, if I am in /folder1/subfolder1 it is not true, when I am in /folder1/subfolder1/object1 When I want, that /folder1/subfolder1/object1 is true too, I have to ask something like if ... CONTAINS /subfolder1. How can I do that with the dtml-if tag? _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp

Image product that works with Zope and ColdFusion AND has to run on Winblows
by Tommy Johnson 29 Nov '01

29 Nov '01

Hey all, Does anyone know of a product that will fulfill these requirements: 1. Works with Zope *AND* ColdFusion (could also work with ASP, php, etc.) 2. Runs on Winblows (more on this later) 3. Free (if not, then I might be able to get the client to pay, but ....) The situation is that I have a friend who has influence (however little it may be) over his boss. His boss runs a Microsoft shop, and I've been trying to get them to switch (or at least try) to Linux. Nada.... Anyway, they obviously do a lot of ASP, but have started with ColdFusion. Somehow, I've talked them into trying Zope. The situation is that the Photo gallery project must run on a Windows server. No problem if the product works with Zope, and can run on a Windows box. But they also want the product to work with CF, at least. What they don't want is the interface I build using WordConverter, which has to run on Linux; it isn't supported on Windows. So, I'm walking on a fine line (not to mention my friend..lol). *why can't these people switch to Linux....well, maybe in time.....after all, they _are_ trying Zope!* Thanks in advance, Tommy Innovation: The Best Way To Predict The Future ... Bullet list manager
by Howard Hansen 29 Nov '01

29 Nov '01

I'm working on a site that will include lots of bulleted lists. My boss loves the idea of making content change with each visit, so he wants to have a bulleted list of -- say -- 10 benefits of membership, but only display three of them for any given page view. He's got a list of 100 interesting facts. He wants to display only one. He's got a database of upcoming events. He wants to display three upcoming ones. Seems to me that these are all the same problem: pick one or more items out of a list, wrap begin and end item HTML around each item, wrap begin list and end list HTML around the entire list, and plunk it onto the page. Mix in a reasonably idiot-proof UI for managing the list items, and I think that would make a pretty cool product for Zope. This begs a few questions: Does this or something like it already exist, or is it just a really stupid idea? Are there features people would like to have? Is anyone willing to help me with the design and creation of the internals of this thing? Are there any similar, folderish products that I should use as a model for my design? Thanks! ANN: Zope Book as Debian package
by Tille, Andreas 29 Nov '01

29 Nov '01

Hello, I did a new CVS checkout from Zope Book and builded a new Debian package from it. It is available under http://packages.debian.org/unstable/doc/zope-book.html For this package I added a Makefile to build html or xml version. This Makefile also creates links from Preface.html to the chapters mentioned there which makes it a little bit more handy. Please have a look at it. Any comments are welcome. Kind regards Andreas.

Fetching the title of object whose id is passed in query string
by John Q Wankah 29 Nov '01

29 Nov '01

I'm working on my first Zope project, an on-line photo galley, now located at http://localhost:8080/gallery/ . The image objects are stored in a subfolder called "imgs". The page at the above URL has a nav bar with links that have the id of the image object to display in a query string, like so: http://localhost:8080/gallery/?imgID=doorway. What I want to do is display below the image the title of the image object whose id is passed in the query string, sort of like a caption. For some reason, though, I can't figure out how to ask for the image object's title directly. What I'm doing now (and which works, but is ugly), is this: <dtml-if imgID> <dtml-in expr="imgs.objectValues()"> <dtml-if "imgID==_['id']"> <IMG SRC="imgs/<dtml-var imgID>" width=<dtml-var width> height=<dtml-var height>> <P align="center"><dtml-var title></P> </dtml-if> </dtml-in> </dtml-if> How do I just do something like <dtml-var expr="imgs.title_or_id(imgID)"> (or something like that) and make it work? TIA, Zope masters! --Ben
