Re: Generating thumbnails on the fly using PIL
by Pieter Claerhout 28 Nov '01

Hi all, I got quite a lot further now. Here's the script I have so far: import PIL.Image import os.path import cStringIO def MakeThumb(self, image, width, height): oriImage = getattr(self, image) oriFile = cStringIO.StringIO(oriImage.data) image = PIL.Image.open(oriFile) image.thumbnail((width, height)) thumbnailImage = StringIO() image.save(thumbnailImage, "JPEG") thumbnailImage.seek(0) return thumbnailImage.getvalue() this all works find if you use it as: <dtml-var "PHTO_MakeThumb('AB_action_inbox.jpg', 160, 120)"> As soon as you want to do something like: <dtml-var "PHTO_MakeThumb('/images/AB_action_inbox.jpg', 160, 120)"> you get an AttributeError. Does anybody has a way around this? Cheers, Pieter

Help! Cataloging Numbers with ZCatalog
by abg＠comco-inc.com 28 Nov '01

28 Nov '01

Hi, I've run into an issue with ZCatalog. When indexing a page, ZCatalog appears to disregard number-only entries. In other words, "m4" will be cataloged, but "4" will not. For my purposes, it is very important that I be able to query the PrincipiaSearchSource for number entries. Please tell me that there is a way to enable this feature. Thanks, Aaron Gillette

can I move my zope site off zope?
by Jacob Singh 28 Nov '01

28 Nov '01

So I'm considering doing a major product with zope, and I'd like to hear what people think about taking a site off of zope. I know it's a great framework to build in, but I'm really used to Database programming and ma inclined to use that. I know you can have SQL adapters in Zope, but for two reasons I don't want to use them, 1. They can be a hassle to set up and since this is a distributed app, this might be a problem. 2. It doesn't really take advantage of the object oriented nature of zope's content management. It basically then is just an excuse for a good templating engine. What I am worried about though is if I build my product without SQL(it is a task management/portal suite), it will forever live on Zope, and getting to that data from other programs will be next to impossible. Does anybody have any experience/advice on this, please let's hear from the zealots AND the skeptics. I know Zope is awesome, I just want to make sure it doesn't get me in a proprietary bind. Thanx J

RE: [Zope] Missing producst
by abg＠comco-inc.com 28 Nov '01

I had a very similar problem about a week ago. For some reason, the "Add (product name)" security option had been reset. I never figured out why. Anyway, go to your top-level security tab, select the appropriate "Add" option, and set it to Manager. You should be good to go. Problem with std. user folder Authentication dialog
by vio 28 Nov '01

28 Nov '01

How do I get rid of the Login dialog sent by 'user folder'? I have a product which I want to allow public access to (without compromising my site's security), but I can't get rid of the std. Login dialog. I tried to use the calls from the Security chapter in ZopeDevGuide, but without apparent effect: calls to security.declarePublic('myMethod') don't seem to work, as far as I can tell. Any hints would be appreciated. Vio

nested zclass ftp problems
by Chris Price 28 Nov '01

28 Nov '01

Hi all, I posted about this yesterday and didn't get any responses... I'm interpreting that as an indicator that no one knows a solution or workaround to my problem. So now I'm hoping (read: begging! :) that someone can at least confirm that this is indeed a bug/issue as opposed to just a problem with my install. I have searched the archives and not seen anything addressing it. I am running 2.4.3. Here is how to reproduce the problem: 1) create a product 2) create a zclass inside the product 3) create a nested zclass inside of the first zclass (in the propertysheets/methods area) 4) create a dtml doc inside of the second zclass (again in the propertysheets/methods area) Now, FTP into your zserver. cd into control_panel, products, <name of your product>, <name of your first zclass>, propertysheets, methods, <name of your second (nested) zclass>, propertysheets. This should work fine. Do an 'ls' and you should see the 'methods' directory. Now try to cd into it. You will get a 'No such directory' error. If anyone can confirm that this happens to them too, I would really, *really* appreciate it... thanks! chris

Inserting file in ZODB
by Demont Maarten 28 Nov '01

28 Nov '01

Hey I want to insert a file from my "normal" file system into the ZODB database. I have collected the path from a form-field "file". The file that needs inserting must be placed in a certain folder inside Zope, and gets a title that I base upon a certain number. How can I - using DTML - insert this file? Can anyone supply me (fast, this is quite urgent...) with a few lines of code explaining this? Thanx!!!!! Maarten Demont maarten.demont(a)cronos.be Zope-Newbie

Dataskin Zclass + Folder subclassing problem
by Jean Lagarde 28 Nov '01

28 Nov '01

Hmm, it seems I have maybe posted the first copy of this message to zope-dev in error; Danny William Adair went over the role of the two lists in a recent message, and did so more clearly than what I read at zope.org (http://www.zope.org/Resources/MailingLists) From the descriptions found there, I thought that my problem fell somewhere in between ;-) In that page, maybe "including basic programming and so forth" could be replaced with something like "from basic to complex programming", and "A separate list for Zope developers" with "... for developers of Zope". That might have sent me to the correct list in the first place (I did read these descriptions before posting, and I hope that others do). Anyway, on to the subject of this message: I have posted this yesterday to zope-dev and repeat it here in the right place. Hi all, A ZClass inheriting from both DataSkin and Folder seems to work as expected (so much has been discussed in other messages, at least with ObjectManager). However, instead of inheriting directly from DataSkin, I want to inherit from another Zclass which is itself based on DataSkin, i.e. (not showing Zobjects): DataSkin ZClass1 Folder | \ / | \ / v v v ZClass1 ZClass2 After its creation, the new Zclass ZClass2 seems to have some management issues: - The views are initialized to those of ZClass1; no big deal, for now, I just added a new view tab named Contents for manage_main - When I create an instance of ZClass2 (in a Folder w/Customizer Support), the instance does show its Contents tab, but it does not quite know it's folderish: - It does not show in the left pane of the ZMI - If I add an object from the contents tab interface of the instance, say a dtml method, it adds OK, but does not show in the contents tab (the contents view is always empty no matter what I add) - The objects I added are there; I can traverse to them and their management interfaces, and I have also checked the ZODB directly using the wonderful pyTree.py. I'm afraid that I know just enough about Zope to be dangerous ;-) I basically just have the time to learn about the stuff that I need to get the job done, and I'm sure that the current version of what I'm working on will need some refactoring later on. So I have two questions: 1) Anybody can think of a quick fix to get the folderish behavior working as it should? 2) In its current state (if there is no quick fix), ZClass2 seems usable enough for my needs; I just need to add a couple of objects for each instance, and I can reach their management screens through explicit traversal. So I'm tempted to plug along and keep on experimenting with that setup for now. Any other more important consequences that I'm missing that should have me fix this more adequately before I proceed? Cheers, Jean

i want a timeout interrupt
by Horst Wald 28 Nov '01

28 Nov '01

Hi, can one interrupt the execution of a script when a certain amount of time has passed? What I want to do: - I start with a given URL. - Then I read the webpage denoted by it into a string like page=urllib.urlopen(URL).read() and if it satisfies a given condition (e.g., it contains a certain word), parse it to find out all the urls it contains. - With these new urls I continue - I take care not to read the same URL twice This works fine in general, but there are certain web pages that never respond. If you try view them with a browser you get a timeout after a few mintues. But the urllib.urlopen() script keeps waiting until it gets a response and if never gets one, the whole program is stopped. What I would like now is to interrupt the script an return '' if it gets no response after 10secs. Any idea???
