SiteAccess/TinyTablePlus perplexed - help.
by Trevor Toenjes 23 Nov '01

I am trying to write some data to a TinyTable via an AccessRule. I am stuck and have tried the obvious "security" overrides on the table. I get the following DTML errors-but cant identify the security problem. Unauthorized >>You are not authorized to access html_impression I am using Zope2.4.0. The code is using Embedded Session Values. The call works fine without the AccessRule. <dtml-let stack="REQUEST['TraversalRequestNameStack']"> Don't intercept management requests <dtml-unless "stack[0][:6]=='manage'"> Is the next path segment a positive integer? <dtml-if "_.int(stack[-1])>0"> Save it and remove it from the path <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('SessionID', stack.pop())"> Add it back into the logical path <dtml-call "REQUEST.setVirtualRoot(REQUEST.steps+[SessionID])"> <dtml-call "html_impression.setRow(sessID='sessionID2',timestamp='time',IP=_.render(REM OTE_ADDR))"> <dtml-else> <dtml-raise type="Invalid">Invalid Session ID!</dtml-raise> </dtml-if> </dtml-unless> </dtml-let> TIA4help, Trevor

Form Variable Types, special: record literals
by hans 23 Nov '01

23 Nov '01

in a DTML-Document i have <form name="check" action="<dtml-var document_id>" method="GET" > <input type="text" name="person.fname:record:string" value="???" /> <input type="text" name="person.lname:record:string" value="???" /> (actually abt. 20 fields). <input type="submit" value=" Check " /></form> i want to initialize person once so that i can write <input type="text" name="person.lname:record:string" value="person.lname" /> (or, <dtml-with person> <input type="text" name="person.lname:record:string" value="lname" /> </dtml-with> ) to avoid writing <input type="text" name="person.fname:record:string" value="<dtml-if "REQUEST.has_key('person')><dtml-var person.fname> <dtml-else><dtml-var "">" /> 20 times. Using 2 DTML-Documents could mean "layout drift" between 2 documents which should look equal. Is there a way to initialize a record via <dtml-call "REQUEST.set( )"> or any other elegant solution?

re: questions before I get started
by Raymond Norton 23 Nov '01

Thanks for a quick response everybody! I have picled up "Zope web application construction kit" by Sams, and I am now running through the online tutorials, so I should start making progress soon. Hopefully sooner then later since it always seems I am under the gun to find solutions. This is my scenerio: I am a tech for a company that services 17 school districts. We provide Internet connectivity and maintain ITV class rooms. The schools are spread out over a 3600 sq mile radius. I am constantly placing new equipment, and maintaining existing equipment. I want to create a web database application that can be viewed, and edited from any web browser. It would include item description, serial number, IP address, location, age, etc... I have installed Zope on RedHat 7.1. with MySql . Any ideas? Raymond

questions before I get started
by Raymond Norton 23 Nov '01

I had never heard of Zope till last week. I have successfully installed the program and am able to bring up the management doc I posted a question on another newsgroup stating I needed to produce a database for our company equipment that could be edited via a web browser. The answer came back to use Zope. Before I spend a bunch of time on this I would like to know if this is the right tool , and how in-depth of an understanding I will need to produce such a thing. From looking around it seems there possibly may be something out there that someone may have written already. Raymond

zope on windows newbie
by seb bacon 23 Nov '01

Can anyone fill me in on the merits of running Zope on win32? (Without recourse to religious artillery ;) I've taken over development of a Zope site which is running on NT4+IIS+pcgi. I've been given the go-ahead to migrate it to Linux, on the basis that I develop much faster on that platform, and I can do things like url rewriting, use familiar tools, etc. But I'm interested in the technical merits of moving platforms, if any. I've never run Zope on win32 before, so I've never followed win32 threads. However, I've picked up the impression that pcgi is one of the worst ways of running a Zope. Certainly the site seems to experience occasional, random-seeming hangs. I'm not looking for 'Linux sux at SMP' or stuff about buffer overflows in IIS, I'm interested specifically in the pcgi and any other Zope-specfic performance issues. I've trawled the mailing lists but haven't gathered much evidence. Has anyone any stories to tell? Thanks, seb

Re: [Zope] ldap user folder authentication prob
by Jonathan Cheyne 23 Nov '01

--follow up ... It turns out I was authenticating fine all along but had not explicitly granted rights to the role Authenticated in the wiki's securty tab and that the response from zope is to ask you to login again and again (rather than say "you are logged in ok but don't have the rights to to this"). Once a few of these had been ticked and with the default role for a ldap connection to be Authenticated then things started to roll. Great stuff and a good steer from Jens on the roles thing. However it only works in IE and not in NS4.7 (our orgs official browser/mail app). Basically, when you click on editthispage, NS opens a view that does not contain the textarea with the structured text etc. It displays just the wiki header and wiki footer with nothing in between (well a blank line or two) Editing the source shows that the text area really does exist and saving the page locally and the loading into NS shows the text area! Confused and perplexed ... I am thinking that this wiki issue not ldap one so for anyone following this up in times to come then ldap is groovy and the thread closes gracefully. J

python service runs amok
by Gordon Holtslander 23 Nov '01

23 Nov '01

I'm running zope 2.4.2 on windows NT 4. The site only has one page and almost no traffic. At random intervals the python process will suddenly run constantly, using up 100% of the CPU. This box is also running as a file server for 6 church staff members, so when this happens it shuts them down. I have to stop the service and restart it to get it to behave. Does anyone know why this happens or what I can do to make it quit? Talk to you soon, Gord Gordon W.
