Hang while waiting for external process
by Paul Winkler 19 Nov '01

19 Nov '01

I'm using zope 2.4.3 on linux (redhat 7 with kernel 2.4.14), playing around with the Photo product (nice one!). I've had a few zope freezes, and finally found a pattern: Occasionally, if using ImageMagick to do the rendering for Photo, convert will fail to complete and Zope will then become completely unresponsive. Browser requests do nothing. This is weird. I can understand how one of the Zope threads might get stuck waiting for the never-ending external process; but why should Zope become completely unresponsive? Shouldn't the other threads keep responding? And is there a way to set a timeout for an external process, such that zope can recover if it fails to return for too long? Here's output of ps showing the defunct convert process: (snip) 891 pts/0 S 0:00 python2.1 /home/pw/Downloads/Zope/z2.py -M /home/pw/C 896 pts/0 S 0:09 \_ /usr/local/bin/python2.1 /home/pw/Downloads/Zope/ 919 pts/0 S 0:00 \_ /usr/local/bin/python2.1 /home/pw/Downloads/Z 920 pts/0 S 0:29 \_ /usr/local/bin/python2.1 /home/pw/Downloa 1001 pts/0 Z 0:00 | \_ [convert <defunct>] 921 pts/0 S 0:05 \_ /usr/local/bin/python2.1 /home/pw/Downloa 922 pts/0 S 0:00 \_ /usr/local/bin/python2.1 /home/pw/Downloa 923 pts/0 S 0:00 \_ /usr/local/bin/python2.1 /home/pw/Downloa I can then get zope to restart by killing any of the zope PIDs. Here's the big M log leading up to the freeze - nothing unusual:... requestprofiler.py doesn't show any hangs in this log... $ tail -f bigM E 147423764 2001-11-15T17:36:05 B 143413564 2001-11-15T17:36:16 GET /test_crap/my_image_library/nothing I 143413564 2001-11-15T17:36:16 0 A 143413564 2001-11-15T17:36:16 500 2485 E 143413564 2001-11-15T17:36:16 B 147432596 2001-11-15T17:36:25 GET /test_crap/my_image_library/lilaq-logo.jpg I 147432596 2001-11-15T17:36:25 0 A 147432596 2001-11-15T17:36:25 304 282 E 147432596 2001-11-15T17:36:25 -- paul winkler home: http://www.slinkp.com music: http://www.reacharms.com calendars: http://www.calendargalaxy.com

Introspection?
by azbok＠yahoo.com 19 Nov '01

19 Nov '01

Hi I'm wondering how one would figure out what methods/globals that are available for use in a zope python script? I know about the dirs(), globals() and locals() functions that you can use in regular python, but I can't use them in zope. I get a NameError. Is there any way to use the builtins functions? Thanks for info

hi everybody, i packaged the first non-beta relase of the LDAPUserFolder today as well as a new version of CMFLDAP, changed to work with the LDAPUserFolder. here is the official description:: *********** The LDAPUserFolder is a Zope User Folder replacement for authenticating against LDAP. It provides a full range of user management functionality and built-in caching for good performance. The Ghost of PTKDemo
by Ben Ocean 18 Nov '01

Hi; I'm *still* having problems ridding myself of a product that somehow has etched its memory into Data.fs. The error I run into states Zope can't import module PTKDemo. I moved out all products that weren't essential, deleted them out of the ZMI and restarted Zope, but the error remained. Here's a traceback: Traceback (innermost last): File /apache/ZopeInstallation/Zope_software_home/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 223, in publish_module File /apache/ZopeInstallation/Zope_software_home/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 187, in publish File /apache/ZopeInstallation/Zope_software_home/lib/python/Zope/__init__.py, line 226, in zpublisher_exception_hook (Object: defaultRack) File /apache/ZopeInstallation/Zope_software_home/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 171, in publish File /apache/ZopeInstallation/Zope_software_home/lib/python/ZPublisher/mapply.py, line 160, in mapply (Object: manage_storageForm) File /apache/ZopeInstallation/Zope_software_home/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 112, in call_object (Object: manage_storageForm) File /apache/ZopeInstallation/Zope_software_home/lib/python/Shared/DC/Scripts/Bindings.py, line 324, in __call__ (Object: manage_storageForm) File /apache/ZopeInstallation/Zope_software_home/lib/python/Shared/DC/Scripts/Bindings.py, line 354, in _bindAndExec (Object: manage_storageForm) File /apache/ZopeInstallation/Zope_software_home/lib/python/App/special_dtml.py, line 244, in _exec (Object: manage_storageForm) File /apache/ZopeInstallation/Zope_software_home/lib/python/DocumentTemplate/DT_In.py, line 691, in renderwob (Object: manage_product_zclass_info) File /apache/ZopeInstallation/Zope_software_home/lib/python/Products/ZPatterns/DataManagers.py, line 104, in manage_product_zclass_info (Object: defaultRack) File /apache/ZopeInstallation/Zope_software_home/lib/python/Products/ZPatterns/DataManagers.py, line 92, in _unifiedZClassRegistry (Object: defaultRack) File /apache/ZopeInstallation/Zope_software_home/lib/python/Products/PlugIns/PlugIns.py, line 674, in unifiedZClassRegistry (Object: defaultRack) File /apache/ZopeInstallation/Zope_software_home/lib/python/Products/ZPatterns/DataManagers.py, line 86, in _zclassOK (Object: defaultRack) File /apache/ZopeInstallation/Zope_software_home/lib/python/ZODB/Connection.py, line 544, in setstate ImportError: (see above) Any ideas? I can't connect with monitor client. My password is in cleartext and I'm calling monitor_client as root. I'm running zope 2.4.2 / python 2.1 on a Debian woody/sid installation. No module named Splitter
by Chris Kratz 18 Nov '01

18 Nov '01

Wondering if anyone else has run into this. Our main installation runs Zope 2.4.1. I installed zope 2.4.3 on a new box from source, installed the appropriate packages, moved over my data.fs and started zope. Zope starts, but it has problems importing: StandardCacheManagers PythonScripts All the tracebacks boil down to: ImportError: No module named Splitter Hmm, I watched that very module compile during the installation of zope and .../zope/lib/python/SearchIndex/Splitter.so. exists. Since this is a source install, I am running with the stock 2.1 python that comes with python. Anyone have any ideas? Both boxes are RH 7.2 w python 2.1 Thanks, -Chris ------------------------------ Chris Kratz chris.kratz(a)vistashare.com

If I understand you correctly, I have set up the ZClasses for basket, basketItem, marketItem and shopper by importing testEMarketClasses.zexp, going to each Rack and adding them through each Rack's Storage tab. I've double-checked the shopper one just to be sure, and it's pointed toward EMshopper like it should be. BenO

dtml-sendmail error with pine
by jmunoz＠softhome.net 18 Nov '01

Hello, this email is sent from a dtml document, with the dtml-sendmail tag. I have followed the instructions in the zope book and some examples in this mail list, but the viewing of attached file doesn't work with my pine email client !! It works well with kmail, but no with pine, so I suppose that the format of the message is not 100% correct. Attached is a pdf document.
