Newbie Question: Returning random images for use in <img src=''> links on other server
by Ben Chapman 20 Nov '01

20 Nov '01

Everyone: Please excuse this if it is a FAQ; I've looked and I've got the book, but I'm am just not getting this. Our main web server (I can't change this) is an IIS box. I want to generate links to random images stored within zope. What I want to do (on the IIS box) is: <img src=http://myzopeserver/content/showimg> where showimg does something like this on myszopeserver: [BEGIN BROKEN CODE] <dtml-call "RESPONSE.setHeader('Content-Type', 'image/jpeg')"> <dtml-var expr="_.whrandom.choice(files.objectValues())>" [END BROKEN CODE] In other words, I want the "raw" image data stored in one of the random files located in the files folder to be returned. This does not work; it seems I need the read() method of the file object, but I don't know how to integrate that with the construct above. Any help would be most appreciated. Sorry for the very basic question. We're running Zope 2.1.6 and Python 1.5.2 Ben Chapman Director, Computing Resources, University of Tulsa College of Law bchapman(a)utulsa.edu

Newbie Question : Problems with Automatic Cataloging of ZClasses
by Orietta Barbari 20 Nov '01

20 Nov '01

I wonder if someone could help me. I have been trying to create zclasses whose objects get automatically catalogued. I have followed the tutorial in the Zope Book (Chapter 9 - 'Automatic Cataloging' section) and it all seems to work correctly. When I go and view the entries in the catalog however, only the date gets registered in the index, and date and absolute_url gets registered as metatypes - no other properties appear to be registered. I have tried other tutorials and HowTos but cannot seem to find an effective way of updating a catalogue with all the objects properties. Could someone give me a clue

New Zope site... maybe
by Paul Winkler 20 Nov '01

I stumbled on this page today: www.desktoplinux.com A pretty nice-looking portal. I can't find any mention of what they're running, but something about it said "zope" to me... but netcraft says it's running apache. Well, OK, we know that doesn't necessarily mean it's not zope. Curious, I played around and discovered something: Take any page on their site. These, for example: http://www.desktoplinux.com/products/index.html http://www.desktoplinux.com/articles/AT9545254683.html Chop off .html, and replace it with /index_html: http://www.desktoplinux.com/products/index/index_html http://www.desktoplinux.com/articles/AT9545254683/index_html No matter what, you get the same thing as if you went to: http://www.desktoplinux.com/index_html Smells like Acquisition! -- paul winkler home: http://www.slinkp.com music: http://www.reacharms.com calendars: http://www.calendargalaxy.com

This is exactly the eventuality that EZ404 (http://www.zope.org/Members/abgillette/EZ404) was created to handle. > Sure, but now we are talking Zope. Very nice, and very easy to do with Zope. That > is the best way > to handle old link: Make sure they work, by redirecting them > to the new > links. Removing " 's from strings
by Peter Armstrong 20 Nov '01

20 Nov '01

I'm trying to make an id from a string, but the string has " on each end of it, and I can't find a way to get rid of them in Zope. I thought of something like: <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('thing', _.string.translate(thestring, _.string.maketrans('',''), '"'))"> But that seems to treat it as the start of a piece of text, and so then thinks that the dtml-let I have just before that line doesn't have a closing tag! A way to use the url_quote parameter at the same time as setting it's value in the REQUEST thingy would be good, but I don't how to work it. Can anyone help? I wrote a sample product that addresses some of these issues. If you want to migrate from "foobar.html" type URLS to Zopified "/foo/bar/" URLS, it works like a champ. It's far from industrial strength, so use at your own risk. http://www.zope.org/Members/abgillette/EZ404 > -----Original Message----- > From: zope-admin(a)zope.org [mailto:zope-admin@zope.org]On Behalf Of > Oliver Bleutgen > Sent: Tuesday, November 20, 2001 6:13 AM > To: zope(a)zope.org > Subject: Re: [Zope] New Zope site... maybe > > > Markus Schaber wrote: > > > Hi, > > > > Lennart Regebro wrote: > > > > > >>>A pretty nice-looking portal. The full featured python ?
by Gilles Lenfant 20 Nov '01

20 Nov '01

Hi, Is there somewhere a product or patch that gives a FULL FEATURED python for Zope scripts and DTML . Lots of python packages are more useful than "math" (cosinus and logarithm are well known essential Web resources ;-) In addition, "map", "filter" and "reduce" are useful shortcuts for dealing with lists. As myself and people who work with me are the only ones who may write DTML and python scripts, there is no secutity issue with a full featured Python on my server. Thanks in advance --Gilles
