Can't use aq_parent in Product??
by Paul Winkler 14 Nov '01

I have a Product I'm creating (python, not Zclass). I thought that I could get the parent object of an instance of my product using the aq_parent method. But AFAIKT, this only works on an "acquisition wrapper" of an object - not on the object itself?? Example: try this in Boring product: class BrokenBoring( OFS.SimpleItem.Item, # A simple Principia object. Not Folderish. Persistent, # Make us persistent. Yaah! Acquisition.Implicit, # Be able to find things via acquisition. AccessControl.Role.RoleManager # Security manager. ): """ Can't acquire the parent... fooey. """ meta_type = 'Boring' # what do people think they're adding? (snip) def __init__(self, id, title=''): """initialise a new instance of Boring""" (snip) try: assert hasattr(self, "aq_parent") except: print "Hey! This instance can't acquire parent!!" When you add one of these in a folder, it prints the exception message in the log. In other words ... no aq_parent. So I guess I need to get an acquisition wrapper to self, so I can acquire its parent? How do I do that? I can't figure it out from the DevGuide. Or Is there a less bletcherous solution? instability problems 2.4.x... Ready for production?
by Antwan Reijnen 14 Nov '01

14 Nov '01

Hi all, I am a little bit concerned about the things I read about the mysterious crashes of Zope 2.4.x. A site I am going to build has to go in production in a month or so. Should I consider building the site in 2.3.2, which according to other messages is "rock-solid"? Your opinions on this are highly appreciated! Greetings, Antwan Reijnen.

Recital support
by Bernard Gray 14 Nov '01

14 Nov '01

I'm not sure of etiquette on this list ... so apologies if this is the wrong list, etc. I know a piano dealer who would like to provide a free service to piano teachers. Functionality would be basic: - e-mail interface so teachers can sign-up - search page, where people can find teachers by zip code, speciality, etc - recital scheduling, which would allow scheduling of space at the dealers for teachers and their students - news: where the dealer can post news items of an infrequent basis. Is ZOPE a good vehicle for this kind of development? Anyone available for development? The dealer is located in Atlanta, GA. TIA Buz

Zope tutor needed in Baltimore, Maryland
by KEVIN ZEMBOWER 14 Nov '01

14 Nov '01

My organization, the Johns Hopkins University Center for Communication Programs (www.jhuccp.org) is just starting to use Zope. We are interested in starting by hiring a Zope tutor for a half or whole day to give us a seminar in Zope (less formal than a class, with more interaction) and use as the class examples a real system that we need and that we'll put into production. I think the system that is needed is somewhat simple and could be done in a day, even with answering questions and giving other examples. Our order fulfillment department sends large pdf files to clients who request them as attachments to emails. A large percentage of the emails bounce, because the users have addresses like hotmail, which limits the size of attachments. They would like a system to do the following: * The order fulfillment person here goes to a password-protected web page and fills in a form with: -user's name -user's email address -pull-down menu of days to expire; 7 days, 14 days, 21 days -name of file on local system to be uploaded to Zope and later downloaded to the user * The Zope system would generate an email to the user similar to: Hello, [name], this is the automatic order fulfillment program at the JHU/CCP. The file you requested is at http://www.jhuccp.org/dc/something/something. You have the next [days to expire] days to download it. When you go to this link, I will ask you for a userID and password. The userID for this file is "xyzpdq" [random sequence of 4-6 characters] and the password is "secret" [ditto]. * The Zope system would then do one of two things. If the user went to the link before the expiration date, it would ask for the userID and password, and, if it was correct, send them the file. Then it would delete the file and all the other information from the Zope system. Or, if the person didn't go to the link in the time given, it would just delete it all anyway. My questions: Can Zope do this? Can a person experienced in Zope create this system in a day? Can a person experienced in Zope create this system is a day, while 3-10 eager-to-learn Zope newbies watch over his/her shoulder and ask questions? Anybody interested in this job, or know someone who is? To do this job, you would have to: * be available to come to downtown Baltimore, Maryland during business hours for either a full or half day (could be two half days if your schedule requires it, or you think it would be a good idea). * be available in the next two to three weeks. * be good at explaining Zope concepts and procedures and be patient with Zope newbies and their questions and interruptions. * be able to create this system in a day or less, while answering questions. * have created Zope systems similar to this at one or two sites that I could take a look at. If you're interested in this, please write directly to me at kzembower(a)jhuccp.org and let me know what you would charge, half or whole day, and the sites I could look at. If you know of anyone who might be interested, please forward this email to them. If you have any questions, also please write directly to me. Thank you for considering this request. -Kevin Zembower ----- E. Hello
by skalivur＠netscape.net 14 Nov '01

14 Nov '01

Hello, I have some question: What happened with the permissions that doesn't appear in the security tab of an object? What I have to do when I add a new role? I only need to mark the permission without worrying about the "Acquire permission settings" mark? Installing ZPatterns
by Ben Ocean 14 Nov '01

14 Nov '01

Hi; In the instructions for installing ZPatterns I read the following: Please follow the standard procedures for building a Python module on your platform. (On Unix-ish systems, this usually consists of copying a Makefile.pre.in to the directory, then doing a make -f Makefile.pre.in boot followed by make. Where does one find a *Makefile.pre.in* to copy? Or are there more explicit instructions to be found? TIA, BenO

RE: [Zope] Indexing: ZopeSplitter and numbers
by sean.upton＠uniontrib.com 14 Nov '01

14 Nov '01

Hmm... I'm not sure this is a 'bug' inasmuch as it is an implementation decision that deserves revisting. With the minimal amount of work required to tweak existing splitter code, it seems to me this (support for single-character words, numbers) might be worth being the default, perhaps in Zope 2.5? Based on what I've seen, the change to isalnum() in the splitter would only work in Zope 2.3.x, as it looks like something slightly different is done to support numbers pre-pended with alpha characters in Zope 2.4, though I imagine the change to support digit-only words should be trivial? Sean -----Original Message----- From: Lennart Regebro [mailto:lennart@regebro.nu] Sent: Wednesday, November 14, 2001 1:20 AM To: zope(a)zope.org Subject: Re: [Zope] Indexing: ZopeSplitter and numbers From: <sean.upton(a)uniontrib.com> > I think I'd have to jump on the bandwagon and agree that numbers should not > be stripped. I'll second the idea of a fish-bowl proposal. I view that as a bug that could be put into the collector. It seems to be a question of changing isalpha() to isalphanum(), as somebody else here had noted. Then add any other considerations about and modification to the splitting process into the fishbowl process about fixing the pluggable splitter interface and stuff. Theres no need to have 10 different proposals about almost the same thing, right? _______________________________________________ Zope maillist - Zope(a)zope.org http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope ** No cross posts or HTML encoding! ** (Related lists - http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-announce http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-dev )

Re: A Really Smart Form Chain
by Harlow Pinson 14 Nov '01

<color><param>0100,0100,0100</param>I guess I should reemphasize the salient points about my forms question. 1. Form Chain (many pages). 2. HTML form field Input is not clobbered as a user moves back and forward through the chain. Stephan Richter has suggested investigating his SmartWizard product. I'll report the results I find. Examples pointed to by others do not seem to accomplish this, though are part of the solution, ie form data is progressivly collected: <underline><color><param>0000,8000,0000</param>http://www.zope.org/Members/jspisak/wizard_keys</underline><color><param>0100,0100,0100</param> <underline><color><param>0000,8000,0000</param>http://www.zopelabs.com/cookbook/991281006</underline> or <underline>http://www.zopelabs.com/cookbook/993669680 </underline>Thanks! <nofill> Harlow Pinson Indepth Learning Email: hpinson(a)indepthl.com Web: http://www.indepthl.com Voice: 505-994-2135 FAX: 208-475-7678

Permissions for an ZClassmethods
by Joachim Schmitz 14 Nov '01

14 Nov '01

Hi, I made a ZClass base product, and implemented my managementinterface for the ZClass in the dtml-method "work" in that zclass. Now I want to restrict the usage of "work" to the authenticated user. I looked in the define Permissions tab, but I am totally confused by the explanation, and the help-text confuses even more :-( Can someone enlighten me ? Python script returning 0
by Chris Keyes 14 Nov '01

14 Nov '01

Hi All Just wondering about this one... I'm writing python scripts that should return 1 if an sucessful and 0 if they fail. When I test them, they return 1 ok, but I never get the 0 value, zope just sits there and doesn't give a response... Using strings rather than integers fixes this. Is this intended behaviour? Is there a reason for this? Cheers ChrisK
