PersistentMapping is confusing
by Paul Winkler 14 Nov '01

14 Nov '01

In my Product, I store some data in a PersistentMapping. I wanted to directly store references to other Zope objects. This behaves strangely: objects accessed via this PersistentMapping are fine until zope restarts. After restart, if I try to retrieve objects from the PersistentMapping, I get: Error Type: AttributeError Error Value: get As a workaround, I store the ID of the desired object in my PersistentMapping as a string and then use getattr to retrieve the object later. This works fine. But it's more work and I don't understand why it's necessary. Apparently, you can't directly store ZODB object references in a PersistentMapping. Is this expected behavior, or a bug? It seems very un-pythonic to me, and I see no mention of this behavior in the DevGuide or anywhere else that I've looked. To reproduce this bug/feature, I've created a very stripped-down product that's available here: http://www.slinkp.com/weirdness.zip To try it: You need PageTemplates installed. Unzip weirdness.zip in your Products directory. In a scratch folder, add a WeirdnessDemo from the management interface. Click on the new WeirdnessDemo. Both the links displayed work fine, right? Now add an image using the form provided. Both the links still work fine, right? Now restart Zope. Go back to the WeirdnessDemo object. The first link still works, the second one gives an AttributeError. -- paul winkler home: http://www.slinkp.com music: http://www.reacharms.com calendars: http://www.calendargalaxy.com

Ok, thanks. It's working now. I downgraded to 0.0.8. I was using version 0.1.3, which doesn't have that "users from other NT domains" tab. weird. thanks again -Kevin --- "Meilicke, Scott" <scott.meilicke(a)intp.com> wrote: > Hi - I'm cc'ing the list for the archives. > > I'm using version 0.0.8. while jcNTUserFolder can see domain users without them having to be part of a local group, the question is about remote domains. Under NT, adding remote users to the local group requires a trust relationship to be established between the domains. So this is not possible without the trust. jcNTUserFolder indicates that it can support multiple domains, but these will likely require the trust relationship. NT accounts from unknown domains will send local usernames to the machine as part of the login, so they will come in as Machine\Username instead of Domain\username. So try both ways. jcNTUsername accepts any domain entry. Try it? >>>-----Original Message----- >>>From: Meilicke, Scott [mailto:scott.meilicke@intp.com] >>>Sent: Tuesday, November 13, 2001 4:53 PM >>>To: 'Kevin Lewandowski'; zope(a)zope.org >>>Subject: RE: [Zope] jcNTUserFolder & domain users >>> >>> >>>I use jcntuserfolder to auth against an NT domain. Logging to a database instead of to Z2.log
by Pieter Claerhout 13 Nov '01

Hello, is it possible to redirect the output that is normally send to the Z2.log file to for example a MySQL database. If so, can someone give me a clue on where I should start looking to change this or how I should adapt my copy of Zope to do this? Thanks, Pieter

I use jcntuserfolder to auth against an NT domain. My NT zope server is not a pdc. My users are not members of a local group on my zope server. So jcntuserfolder can see domain users without them having to be part of a local group. -Scott -----Original Message----- From: Kevin Lewandowski [mailto:kevinsl@yahoo.com] Sent: Tuesday, November 13, 2001 1:51 PM To: zope(a)zope.org Subject: [Zope] jcNTUserFolder & domain users I'd like to add remote domain users to a local group on my server, then have jcntuserfolder see those domain users. Add NESTED ZClasses Programatically -- Please Look
by Chris Bruce 13 Nov '01

13 Nov '01

Ok, I understand how to add ZClasses in both dtml and Python, thanks all. But my problem is that I need to add a nested ZClass to another ZClass. Let me explain: I have a ZClass called ProfileDirectory that extends ObjectManager. Inside ProfileDirectory, I have another ZClass called Profile. The idea is that ProfileDirectory is the folder for Profiles. Now, in zope I have added a ProfileDirectory (with id=directory) to a folder (with id=consultants) that looks like: /consultants/directory Now I need to Programatically (In a python script) add Profiles to /consultants/directory If anybody understands what I just said and can help me, I would be greatly appreative!!! I have tried the following with no luck in a python script: context.consultants.directory.manage_addProduct['Profile'].Profile_add(_.None,_,NoRedir=1) context.consultants.directory.manage_addProduct['ProfileDirectory'].Profile_add(_.None,_,NoRedir=1) context.consultants.directory.manage_addProduct['ProfileDirectory'].Profile.Profile_add(_.None,_,NoRedir=1) context.consultants.directory.manage_addProduct['ProfileDirectory']['Profile'].Profile_add(_.None,_,NoRedir=1) context.consultants.directory.manage_addProduct['ProfileDirectory'].manage_addProduct['Profile'].Profile_add(_.None,_,NoRedir=1) In all cases I get an error saying that Profile is not found. Re: [Zope] A Really Smart Form Chain
by Harlow Pinson 13 Nov '01

13 Nov '01

Hi Mike and Steve, I'm probably missing some key step not mentioned in the wizard_keys document. Are there any examples of this in action, i.e a form chain with more than three steps? This method seems to collect all the form variable information in a fowardly direction just fine, but as soon as you start going backward more than a step, and then forward again, i.e. resubmitting a form in the chain, the current field information get's clobbered for the user, and they have to enter it again. I've been able to load the field info into the textarea value attributes as a workaround, but this does not seem to work for form select objects, and the form output turns into a lists of values which I then have to strip, and is getting awfully complicated. I'll take a look at the Marshalling example. Thanks! Harlow Pinson Indepth Learning Email: hpinson(a)indepthl.com Web: http://www.indepthl.com Voice: 505-994-2135 FAX: 208-475-7678

RE: [Zope] Indexing: ZopeSplitter and numbers
by sean.upton＠uniontrib.com 13 Nov '01

Keep in mind that my production setup is still using Zope 2.3.2. YMMV. The only downside we found from hacking the splitter was that wildcard searches on single character keywords are bad, bad, bad (they consume a lot of resources). We are working on addressing this on an application by application basis (with our classifieds application, we rewrite users queries anyways to auto-add wildcards to words longer than 3 characters, so checking and this and stripping the wildcards from the search should be possible for words of 2 or less characters). Numbers cause no problems, for us, at least. Again, this was with Zope 2.3.2... We currently sub the "@" and "." chars in e-mail addresses with "_" so they are indexed usefully. In your more case, I'm not sure that'd be appropriate. If you only have "keywords" in your TextIndex, I suppose the only stop chars you'd want are whitespace, and everything else is in. > I would think that the appropriate default behavior for ZopeSplitter would > be relaxed about stripping out things. My concern is that there's _specific_ code in there that does this stuff, and I want to know if there'll be any negative consquences of changing its behaviour... Richard
