GadFly DB and caching
by Oliver Erlewein 09 Nov '01

09 Nov '01

Hi I've got a small GadFlyDB running on Zope. Since it was quite slow I changed the "Maximum time (sec) to cache"-value to 300. This improves the speed quite dramatically! :) The problem is, that chages and deletes of tablerows don't show immediately. How do I do a cacheupdate? external methods returning objects
by Stephan Herschel 09 Nov '01

Hi, I've just tried to return a python-object from an external method and to use this from inside zope. I tried to call a method of this object, and funnily no error appeared but i was prompted for authentication again. Does this make sense? Is there a workaround? thanks, stephan

Photo clashing with ZSQL method
by Timothy Wilson 09 Nov '01

09 Nov '01

Hi everyone, Here's an odd error: I'm working with the ZPsycopgDA, a PosgreSQL database and a couple ZSQL methods. When I click on the "Advanced" tab inside my ZSQL methods I get the following: Error Type: SystemError Error Value: Failed to import class _ZClass_for_ZPhotoAlbum from module Products.Photo With the traceback: Odd. Anyone have any thoughts on this? -Tim -- Tim Wilson | Visit Sibley online: | Check out: Henry Sibley HS | http://www.isd197.org | http://www.zope.com W. Id of root object?
by Terry Hancock 09 Nov '01

09 Nov '01

Hi, I'm (obviously?) a new Zope user. I've been working on a website -- originally it was organized as: http;//my_url:8080/AnansiWWW where "AnansiWWW" was a folder, and everything else was below that. However, for various reasons, it's clear that we want the public version of the site to have the stuff in AnansiWWW appear at the root level, i.e: http;//my_url:8080/ So I've been trying to move stuff up. However, I've been using a navigation bar that uses a bit of code like this to determine where "Up" should be for each folder: <dtml-var expr="_.getitem(Up).absolute_url()"> This is nice, because I can set "Up" to be a property of the folder and exercise a bit more creative control over the navigation bar's behavior. It worked fine before, where going to the home page could be acheived by simply setting Up to "AnansiWWW". I tried some alternatives before coming up with the "getitem" approach above, but I couldn't figure out anything simpler that would do what I needed. But here's the problem -- now I want that to resolve to simply: "/" in the event that Up is simply the home page. I can't reasonably use "index_html", because that might resolve to some intermediate folder that was not intended ("index_html" being used in a lot of places). For this to work, I need an ID for the root folder. I've not been able to find any reference to this in the documentation I have, and obvious guesses like "" "root" "/" "_" "." ".." "Root Folder" "BASE0" etc, don't work. I even tried leaving out the "Up" property and using a "missing" line in the DTML, but that doesn't work either (apparently it still tries to evaluate the getitem() and generates an error. If it's really not possible to refer to the root object, then how else could I code this to acheive my purpose? Thanks! Creating products from Python scripts
by Carlos Alberto Micucci 09 Nov '01

09 Nov '01

Hi, I'm Argentino and my English is poor, sorry. I'm new in ZOPE, but I´m near to start a big project with it, a web application to query any remote database (or local) by SQL sentences with a user friendly interface to generate reports, graphs, ... to users with no knowledge about SQL sentences. My first problem is create instances objects of ZOPE from Python scripts, like: ZSQLMethods, ZODBCDA, folders, and so. I've probed with manage_addProduct (where Product is de name of product to create). Folders objects is OK, from manage (test) and visiting URL from browser. ZSQLMethods objects trought an error from URL and from manage (view): attribute error. By other way, I've probed with ZOQL product (Insert ...) but some products like "Z ODBC Database Connections" trought an error like: object is not callable. Could you help me, which is the correct way to handle this problem? I've read documentation like: ZOPE book, Zope Development guide, HOWTO, Tips and others, but this problem is not clearly documented. Other: which is the correct way to pass arguments (or parameters) to product ZOPE object (like ZOQL Methods, for example) from Python scripts? (ZOQL Methods object and Python scripts are in the same folder). Have you any example? I hope, you can help me. Sorry for my redaction... Thanks, for all. bye, Carlos. ===== Ing. Re: [Zope] Caching on-the-fly resized photos (implemented)
by Robert Rottermann 09 Nov '01

Ron, I downloaded V1.22 and installed it and did run upgrade one a site with some 1000 photos. Everything worked fine. I found a small bug. In editSettingsForm.dtml you are using store unconditionally. I do have photos without store (dont know why) that do not like such a form. Now for a totally differnt matter. I need Photo translated into at least french and german. As you know, Zope does not really hinder translation but that is about all the help one gets in that realm. I would suggest to add a primitive translation support to Photo. What I have in mind is that every source file has a from translate import translate added. translate in its simplest incarnation does nothing but return its input. In Photo for every string meant to be seen in the user interface one would call translate with that string. Somebody who wants to have Photo translated would provide an appropriate translate function. I would happyly do this adaptation of your code. However we should find a way how to have it merged into your code stream. Robert

http file upload w/ external methods.
by zope＠virtosi.com 09 Nov '01

09 Nov '01

hello there: i am having upload issues. i would like to upload a file, some text, and meta-data (all form fields...) and then move (and rename) that file to a specific directory based on the meta-data. so,,, i am sending the requests directly to an External method. ### DTML #### <input type=my_external_method action=post enctype='multipart/form-data Title: <input type=text name=file_nae size=10> File: <input type=file name=myfile> <input type=submit> </form> the LocalFS products manage_upload seems to do what i want, but i don't know how to access it from an external method (and i would need to for other reasons). does Zope hand off the request directly to the external method?? could i use the cgiupload.py module ?? thanks for your help, --james jackson, aspiring zope-buster...

object references in python (script)
by HNBeck＠t-online.de 09 Nov '01

Hi all, I've no idea where may be an error at the folling code: ---- # create a unique id id= str(linkname) + str( len(context.objectIds())) # add new instance of DokuTypeID (hint from mailing list) context.REQUEST.set('id', id) my_context= context.manage_addProduct['DokuItem'] my_context.DokuTypeID_add(my_context,context.REQUEST, NoRedir=1) # add a guest_name string property (variant of the guestbook example in Zope Book) context.REQUEST.set('keyword',id) doc=getattr(context, id) doc.manage_changeProperties(context.REQUEST) ---- DokuItem is a own product, containing the class DokuTypeID, which has the property 'keyword'. Assume the code has to create an instance in folder "anything". Instance is created - good. But not the property of the new DokuTypeID instance is set, the property of the folder "anything" (which also has the property "keyword") is overwritten. ??????? So it seems, the variable doc points to the folder object, not to the new instance in it. Why ???? Thanks for help! Greetings Hans ----------------------------------- Dipl.-Ing. Hans N.
