MySQL product
by Beaudette, Sheree 07 Nov '01

07 Nov '01

I have the MYSQL product installed in Zope. I'm having a problem getting more than 1,000 rows in a select query I'm using in Zope for a drop down box. We found max rows to be set to 1,000 in db.py in the file system in the products directory. We then changed it to 2,000 just to see if it would work. It does not. Any suggestions??

ISP's that offer Zope hosting
by Tommy Johnson 07 Nov '01

All, Quick question: does anyone know of a few companies that offer Zope hosting? I seem to remember reading something a while back, but I couldn't find anything in the archives <yet>, so I'm not sure if it was asked on this list. Thanks in advance, Tommy Innovation: The Best Way To Predict The Future ... Is To Create It.

Variable substitution of <dtml-in> Attributes
by Adam Warner 07 Nov '01

07 Nov '01

Hi all, This doesn't appear to be possible but I'm just confirming. I have this line of code: <dtml-in expr="PARENTS[0].objectValues('Folder')" sort=id> I'd like to be able to substitute the Attributes as a string. For example a dtml method called sort_order may contain the string: reverse sort=id Then I would substitute that in at runtime. It might look something like this: <dtml-in expr="PARENTS[0].objectValues('Folder')" &dtml-sort_order;> However this and similar attempts gives me a Document Template Parse Error. Thanks, Adam

Zope not restarting itself after crash
by Ron Bickers 07 Nov '01

07 Nov '01

Besides the problem that Zope crashes every once in a while (it could be days it could be many weeks) for no apparent reason, it won't restart itself. I get the following in the stupid log. It just keeps trying as fast as it can until I kill it. 2001-11-05T20:18:55 ERROR(200) zdaemon zdaemon: Mon Nov 5 15:18:55 2001: Aiieee! 32529 exited with error code: 256 ------ 2001-11-05T20:18:55 INFO(0) zdaemon zdaemon: Mon Nov 5 15:18:55 2001: Houston, we have forked ------ 2001-11-05T20:18:55 INFO(0) zdaemon zdaemon: Mon Nov 5 15:18:55 2001: Hi, I just forked off a kid: 32533 ------ 2001-11-05T20:18:55 INFO(0) zdaemon zdaemon: Mon Nov 5 15:18:55 2001: Houston, we have forked ------ 2001-11-05T20:18:55 ERROR(200) zdaemon zdaemon: Mon Nov 5 15:18:55 2001: Aiieee! 32533 exited with error code: 256 When I start Zope (2.4.2), I get warning messages about the use of deprecated modules, so I figured I'd give the following a shot. For some reason, if I change z2.py as follows, it doesn't have problems restarting itself. Coincidence or is there a good explanation? - zdaemon.run(sys.argv, os.path.join(CLIENT_HOME, Zpid)) + zdaemon.run(['-W', 'ignore'] + sys.argv, os.path.join(CLIENT_HOME, Zpid)) _______________________ Ron Bickers Logic Etc, Inc.

PersistentMapping not persistent?
by alex＠quad.com.ar 07 Nov '01

07 Nov '01

hey there, I've been trying to get around a problem in my zope 2.4.2 persistentMapping. I've built the zodb auth source of exIserFolder.. it basically uses a PersistentMapping to store all the user accounts, passwords and roles. Everything works fine, but then I noticed passwords getting reset when zope restarts (or just on a long non-activity period) I create a user, set his password and roles.. everything goes ok.. I change his password to something different.. and it works.. but then I restart zope, and his password gets resetted to the old one. now if I use a self.data={} instead of self.data=PersistentMapping() and then add a self._p_changed=1 on every method that updates the self.data everything works as expected, so here goes the question: is PersistentMapping fscked up on 2.4.2 or does it still need something similar to self._p_changed=1 to commit all the transactions back into zodb ? any hints, I could fix this by NOT using PersistentMapping, but since that's what User.py uses, I thought it was going to be a good way to do it.... please.. help :P Alex

IMAP/SMTP web interfaces for Zope
by Dragos Lipan 07 Nov '01

07 Nov '01

I intend to desing an web interface for my server IMAP/SMTP services. I use qmail-1.03, Courier IMAP on RH 7.2. Also Zope 2.4.2. Found two recommended products (even more than email interfaces, but real PIMs), a. worldpilot-release-1.1.0alpha4 b. zopegum-1.2.0-beta2 released also (in another product) as zopegud-1.0.0-preview5. Trying to install lastest version of those products, I failed, Zope don't see them in the list of intsalled products. (exception, from the whole bundle of ZopeGUD, ThreadSafeCounter was the only avaible and working). worldpilot, an older version, worldpilot.1.0.4 seems to work with zope-2.4.2, but after logging into IMAP server, sends me back to login screen (altought IMAP server reports me as logged in). I read about a patch for worldpilot1.0.4 to work with Courier IMAP, but coudn't find any help on their forum. I tried out IMAPAdapter, but either, cannot be intalled as Zope 2.4.2 product :(( Can any body help? even recommend me another product. Thanks, Dragos Lipan Piatra Craiului National Park str. Zope hiccuping
by Chris Kratz 07 Nov '01

07 Nov '01

We have been noticing that periodically, we get an error from IE that says "Cannot find server or DNS error". It is not easily reproducable (except by just clicking links on the server) and a F5 refresh in the browser [almost] always loads the page correctly. I turned on logging today with the -M startup option and observed the following entries when it happened: B 145697132 2001-11-07T17:15:38 GET /OutcomeTracker/Dev_News I 145697132 2001-11-07T17:15:38 0 A 145697132 2001-11-07T17:15:39 200 32155 E 145697132 2001-11-07T17:15:39 B 145934020 2001-11-07T17:15:40 GET /OutcomeTracker/PeopleOrganizations/index_html I 145934020 2001-11-07T17:15:40 0 B 135053764 2001-11-07T17:15:56 POST /OutcomeTracker/Activities/index_html I 135053764 2001-11-07T17:15:56 2831 B 146464388 2001-11-07T17:15:57 GET /OutcomeTracker/PeopleOrganizations/index_html I 146464388 2001-11-07T17:15:57 0 A 146464388 2001-11-07T17:16:03 200 31200 E 146464388 2001-11-07T17:16:03 Notice how the Get /OutcomeTracker/PeopleOrganizations/index_html never gets the A or E lines, but only has a B and I line. The subsequent refresh finished the request. Interestingly, the two incompleted requests are not logged to z2.log. We can see the request before and the request after, but that's it. The other strangeness is that in the postgres log, we see a "pq_recvbuf: unexpected EOF on client connection". This seemed to point to zope threads dying. Since I'm not getting anything in the logs(*see below), I started running tests with one eye on the currently running processes. And sure enough, whenever I got that error at the browser (cannot find server...), *All* of the zope threads (except the main starter thread) die quietly and come back with new PIDs. It really appears like it reruns the entire startup sequence again. With Z_DEBUG_MODE on I can watch it go through the startup sequence again whenever this happens. But, there are no tracebacks. It's just like somebody clicked restart in the middle of a process. The one glimmer of hope is in the stupid log file: 2001-11-07T19:30:23 ERROR(200) zdaemon zdaemon: Wed Nov 7 14:30:23 2001: Aiieee! 1925 exited with error code: 11 ...restarting... Here's the questions, 1. It appears that something is causing those threads to crash (or end), but nothing is getting put in the log file. Is there any way to get the tracebacks I assume are happening or to find out what is going on? 2. Alternatively, is there a way to run zope in single threaded mode? Z_DEBUG_MODE appears to only apply to the main thread because it goes ahead and spawns additional threads. If I use -t 0 I get two processes, but no response from a web browser request. If I use -t 1, I get three processes owned by nobody and the original one by root. 3. Any further ideas on how to debug this thing? Where do I find what error code 11 is? Thanks for you time and help, -Chris ------------------------------ Chris Kratz chris.kratz(a)vistashare.com

My apologies to Scott Meilicke as he will probably receive this message twice (I forgot to reply to the list as well... but I blame the tools) ---- > A few months ago I had been talking to the author of the MSWord Document > product (very cool way to HTML-ize your Word documents, but still keep the > original as just an extra link for users to request if they want). > > The author said that he was working on, or would soon be working on an > MSOffice Document product which allowed for a whole bunch of different > MS-file formats to be brought into Zope. > > I'm not certain where the project stands as of now, though. I need to do it automagically. I don't want my users to have to remember or do things too much differently than they are doing now. Believe it or not, although these are intelligent people, they had difficulties with webfolders.
