RE: [Zope] Traversal issue...

For traversal, You should just be able to acquire folder B's namespace from folder A using <dtml-with>... If not, I think the following more explicit DTML/Python script combo will work for you: DTML: <dtml-with getUserObject> <dtml-comment>do stuff here</dtml-comment> </dtml-with> -------- #==> TTW Python script ("getUserObject"): username = context.REQUEST.cookienameforuser #following assumes you have an object in folder B with an # id that matches the user name namespace_FolderB = context.REQUEST.PARENTS[1]['FolderBId'][username] return namespace_FolderB Hope this helps... Sean -----Original Message----- From: Rob Foster [mailto:rob@thefosters.com] Sent: Monday, November 05, 2001 11:29 PM To: zope(a)zope.org Subject: [Zope] Traversal issue... Ok, here's the setup... I've got two adjacent folders: Folder A - This folder has a form that will allow users to edit the properties of a specific zclass instance that resides in Folder B. Folder B - This folder has a bunch of instances (each instance's id maps to the username of a user in the system) Now, the users each have a cookie with their username set... When they fill out the form in folder A, I want to update the instance in B that maps to them (based on the value of their cookie), but I can't seem to "get to" (traverse?) the right instance with either DTML or Python. Any help would be appreciated as always. RE: [Zope] Using ZCatalog for Outside Content
by sean.upton＠uniontrib.com 06 Nov '01

Haven't done this, but I've got a good idea how you could... Remember that Catalog indexes objects, which means methods or properties, which means, if you can grab remote content via a method, you can index it; just keep in mind you would need a one-to-one relationship between a local (proxy) object and a remote page. You need to come up with an API and methods framework for spidering your content via http, using a python http client. For each 'page' you will need to create a CatalogAware proxy object in the object database that stores metadata such as the URL (put these proxy objects in a container capable of having lots of objects, like a BTreeFolder). Then you use Catalog to index methods (which really get remote text content) using a text index. Consider, if you have the ability, to cache as much useful metadata in these proxy objects about those pages. I am doing something similar with relational data being indexed with ZCatalog; in the case of data in an relational datastore, I have to have a proxy-object-per-record; in your case, you would need a proxy-object-per-page. Hi Best to read is "The Zope Book" on http://www.zope.org/Members/michel/ZB . Or buy the (german) book "Zope Content Management & Webaplication-Server" from dpunkt.verlag (ISBN 3-932588-93-2). Or look under www.beehive.de & www.zope.de. Oliver -- GMX - Die Kommunikationsplattform im Internet. http://www.gmx.net

Yet another Newbie tree question!
by Steve Crook 06 Nov '01

06 Nov '01

Apologies if this question has been previously addressed - I've the searched lists but I'm not absolutely certain that I'm looking in the right places! I want to exclude certain objects (folders or documents) from a tree display. All of my objects have a Boolean property 'visible'. I only wish to display those objects where visible = true. My best attempt so far was to suppress the object title - but the '+/-' icon was still displayed. I've also been trying to use a branches method - something like: <dtml-if visible"> <dtml-return "objectValues(['DTML Document','Folder']) "> </dtml-if> Any help would be much appreciated......
