>And me prevents this funny technology from viewing the application I have to add here, that I originally tested the viewlets with Internet Explorer on Windows NT and Netscape on Linux. Usually Netscape is the sucking part (although I am a micros~1.oft hater). So when it works with Netscape AND IE, it is normally safe. But yes, Mozilla (Windows and Linux) asks for a Java Plugin. and Konqueror (Linux) which usually renders HTML as nice as MSIE doesn't find the Java program. Persistent form variables
by Steven Sartorius 01 Nov '01

01 Nov '01

Let me preface this by saying I'm a Zope newbie..... I've started to build a simple site with Zope but am at a crossroads. The initial page of the site is a form that would be filled in by a new visitor; someone who's been to the site before would see the data that they had last input. I don't want to use cookies, not everyone turns them on. Obviously some kind of data persistence is called for on the server side. My question is: is there an easy, idiomatic Zope way of doing this? Culling through the documentation ('The Zope Book', various How-To's) I've seen plenty of examples of creating persistent data with ZODB but all these examples focus on using ZODB outside the Zope framework. I guess I could write a Script/External Method to: 1) check for the existence of a database file; 2) create it if it doesn't exist; 3) check for the existence of user data; 4) display the data if exists; 5) display a blank form if there's no data for a user...etc, etc, etc. Is there an easier way to do this? A Product I don't know about or an elegant Zope trick? Any and all help appreciated.... thanks, Steve

BerkeleyDB slow
by matt 01 Nov '01

01 Nov '01

Hi, I am finding that writes to the ZODB are far slower when the storage is BerkeleyDB instead of Data.fs. I should also mention that I run this through ZEO, if that has anything to do with it. I now have quite a few folders, some with up to 1000 objects in them. I know ZEO is not very write friendly, but if I switch the Storage back to main .. i.e. Data.fs(Still as a zeo client), and import data into it, then I find it is 5-10 times faster when doing something as simple as editing small dtml method. My current system is the following : Zope Version (Zope 2.4.0 (source release, python 2.1, linux2), python 2.1.0, freebsd4) Python Version 2.1 (#1, Jul 18 2001, 17:06:28) [GCC 2.95.3 [FreeBSD] 20010315 (release)] System Platform freebsd4 I was wondering if this behaviour was common. regards Matt

Sorry, should have read my notes better before I sent the email... SessionIdManager also uses setDefaultAccess('deny'), and I had to comment that line out as well. > -----Original Message----- > From: Jean Lagarde [mailto:jean.lagarde@eer-rc.com] > Sent: Thursday, November 01, 2001 07:59 > To: 'zope(a)zope.org' > Subject: BOA Constructor, CST, and setDefaultAccess > > > Hi all, > > I was trying to play around with BOA Constructor, but > couldn't get into some Zope folders (BOA was throwing cryptic > errors at me). BOA Constructor, CST, and setDefaultAccess
by Jean Lagarde 01 Nov '01

Hi all, I was trying to play around with BOA Constructor, but couldn't get into some Zope folders (BOA was throwing cryptic errors at me). I found out that the problem was with the latest version of core session tracking, which uses "setDefaultAccess('deny')" in both sessionData and sessionDataContainer. My quick fix was to comment these lines out, which I assume is not the best solution, but it got me going at least. CST is the only product I have that uses setDefaultAccess(). Anyway, just in case someone is interested to know (Chris?) Cheers, Jean

How to do a mouse over in Zope
by Gordon Holtslander 01 Nov '01

I'm trying to get a mouse over to work and all I get is the text. This is what I'm trying to make work: <a href="feedback.html" onMouseOver="document.the_image.src=<dtml-var "images['feedback_dn.gif']">;" onMouseOut="document.the_image.src=<dtml-var "images['feedback_up.gif']">;"> <img src=<dtml-var "images['feedback_up.gif']"> name="the_image" border="0"></a> What am I doing wrong? Talk to you soon, Gord

hello. I´m a new Zope user and I have a problem whit the external methods. I´m reading Zope Book (Chapter 8:"ScriptingZope.html") and I can´t add that the external method "makeThumbnail", proposed there. It looks like zope doesn´t recognize the variable "self". Any suggestion? Thanks __________________________________________________________________ Your favorite stores, helpful shopping tools and great gift ideas. Zope on CD ROM
by Laleh Baschardust 01 Nov '01

01 Nov '01

Hi, I am producing a manual on CD ROM with ZOPE, like I found in the HOW TO "Running Zope off CD ROM" from Jens, 2001/07/13. It helped me a lot. Autoran starts the browser (with a first information page) and the ZServer starts in read-Modus at the same time. Afterwards the pages can be loaded. Unfortunately now I have some problems: 1. The ZServer needs a long time (nearly 3 minutes) for the start-up 2. The dos-window opens 3. The ZServer in read-Modus writes the Logs in cmd Maybe you can help me to answer my questions: to point 1: How can I shorten the loading time at the beginning? to point 2: Can I run the ZServer in the background, like a service from WindowsNT? to point 3: How can I manipulate ZOPE so it will not write Logs in cmd? Are you interested why I decided to use ZOPE? I decided to go this way because: · The manual has a complex tree structure including often 5 levels. · I had to include a glossary database · I use the ZCatalogue to search the manual · I wanted to separate text and layout Thanks a lot for your help best wishes Laleh ----- Laleh Baschardust EAN.UCC - The Global Language of Business _____________________________________ Centrale fuer Coorganisation GmbH Maarweg 133 . I think I'm a complete burke - Basic permissions and CGI
by Bruce Dykes 01 Nov '01

01 Nov '01

Okay, I'm missing something. In all the discussions of Permissions, roles, ownership, and security policies, the focus appears to be on multi-user systems, while I'm having problems implementing some basic anonymous CGI. I want any user to just paste some data into a textarea on a form. This form then launches a python script that extracts the relevant data from the pasted info, and stick it in an array. This array will then be used as the source for a SQL query, whose results will be used as the source for a ProComm script file. But before all that, I need to know just what the basic permissions and roles should look like for this fairly basic and standard CGI process. This doesn't appear to be rocket science, so where am I not looking? I've been reviewing The Zope Book, and the Web App Construction Kit, but they seem to focus on multiple users, which, while useful, seems to be much more than what I'm looking to do...can somebody point me at the right how-to or FAQ please? Thanks, bkd
