Dark or light voodoo with properties
by Ian J Cottee 01 Oct '01

01 Oct '01

The problem is simple - I have a website and at the top level there are some properties defined. I now want to use exactly the same code but allow the user to choose a different set of properties to use depending on the URL ... so given the following structure /folder1 /black/ /folder2 /web/folder3 /green/ /folder4 /folder5 /black/web/folder1 will give you folder1 with the black properties and /green/web/folder1 will give you folder1 with the green properties. I have a feeling this is so simple I'll kick myself when somebody tells me the answer but I can't for the life of me find it at the moment in the mailing lists. OK - listen - I'll kick myself now - just to get some credit rating >KICK< >KICK< Anybody out there who can help me? Ian

Using XEmacs with Zope
by Oliver Sturm 01 Oct '01

01 Oct '01

Hi! I'm having some problems with that combination, it seems. I can open a DTML method from the Zope ftp server with XEmacs. Right after opening the DTML method, XEmacs logs the message "Unable to set umask to 22 on ffweb#8021" (ffweb is the server). Now, real problems come when I want to save the thing using C-x C-s: XEmacs renames the original DTML method as a backup copy (appending a ~) and creates a new object for the changed content, only this is a DTML document instead of a method. At the same time, it creates a log message saying "CHMOD 660 failed for /test/vtest on ffweb#8021". I have read lots of stuff about how to use different modes for editing and so on, but nobody seems to have these problems. Any ideas? Oliver -- Oliver Sturm / <sturm(a)oliver-sturm.de>

Cataloging xml files
by Philippe Jadin 01 Oct '01

01 Oct '01

Hello, For a new project, I'd like to use pure xml files in zope to store metainformation about media files. For example, I would have "picture.jpg", and I'd like to store - author - licence - keywords etc... about this information into picture.jpg.xml Both files stored in zope. Then, would it be possible with the current zope xml integration to catalog the xml file and search for a particular media made by a particular author ? In other word, is it possible to catalog xml files in zope, and map xml tags to zcatalog metadata right now ? Philippe

zpt and webDAV
by Lee Marzke 01 Oct '01

I need to get some non HTML coders involved with Zope on our Intranet. I use the management interface and Emacs, but I need a Windows based soution for the others. Is it worth looking at Dreamweaver or Go-Live for the webDAV solutions. Any recommendations ? Thanks, Lee Marzke lmarzke(a)adelphia.net

parsing bookmark files
by Timothy Wilson 01 Oct '01

01 Oct '01

Hi everyone, I'd like to create a page where our school's media specialists can maintain a central bookmarks file for the entire school district. I've created a simple upload that works fine. The file is quite large, however, and produces a single Web page that is very long and rather unwieldy. Has anyone written a Python script, external method, etc. that would parse through a bookmarks file and create a more user friendly Web page from the contents? Perhaps one could use <dtml-tree>? -Tim -- Tim Wilson | Visit Sibley online: | Check out: Henry Sibley HS | http://www.isd197.org | http://www.zope.com W. Zope 2.4 dies when viewing manage page on Win95
by pvh＠leftside.wcape.school.za 01 Oct '01

01 Oct '01

Hi I've got Zope 2.4 installed on my Win95 box (don't have a unix box around for testing...), but after some fiddling around, I seem to have got it into a state where it crashes whenever I try and view the manage screen. I think this might be related to the MySQL DA product - after I installed Zope, I installed mysql, mysqldb and the MySQL DA product. I noticed that whenever I tried to make open a Z MySQL connection, the Zope server crashed, and was going to debug that this morning - however, I now cannot access Zope at all. Unfortunately, the debug output is pretty minimal - any hints on how to try and figure out where exactly this problem is coming from? Here's what I get as output from the DOS box Zope is running in: C:\Program Files\WebSite>"C:\Python21\python.exe" "C:\Program Files\WebSite\z2.p y" -D ------ 2001-10-01T06:15:33 INFO(0) ZServer HTTP server started at Mon Oct 01 08:15:33 2 001 Hostname: 10.0.1.3 Port: 8080 ------ 2001-10-01T06:15:34 INFO(0) ZServer FTP server started at Mon Oct 01 08:15:34 20 01 Hostname: reb.leftside.wcape.school.za Port: 8021 ------ 2001-10-01T06:15:35 INFO(0) ZServer PCGI Server started at Mon Oct 01 08:15:35 2 001 Inet socket port: 8090 Traceback (most recent call last): File "C:\Program Files\WebSite\z2.py", line 774, in ? asyncore.loop() File "C:\PYTHON21\lib\asyncore.py", line 194, in loop poll_fun (timeout, map) File "C:\PYTHON21\lib\asyncore.py", line 86, in poll r,w,e = select.select (r,w,e, timeout) select.error: (0, 'Error') And here is the tail of Z2.log: 127.0.0.1 - pvh [01/Oct/2001:08:16:31 +0200] "GET /manage HTTP/1.1" 200 1102 "" "Opera/5.12 (Windows 95; U) [en]" 127.0.0.1 - pvh [01/Oct/2001:08:16:32 +0200] "GET /manage_top_frame HTTP/1.1" 200 1402 "http://localhost:8080/manage" "Opera/5.12 (Windows 95; U) [en]" 127.0.0.1 - pvh [01/Oct/2001:08:16:33 +0200] "GET /manage_workspace HTTP/1.1" 302 427 "http://localhost:8080/manage" "Opera/5.12 (Windows 95; U) [en]" 127.0.0.1 - pvh [01/Oct/2001:08:16:34 +0200] "GET /p_/zopelogo_jpg HTTP/1.1" 200 3090 "http://localhost:8080/manage_top_frame" "Opera/5.12 (Windows 95; U) [en]" 127.0.0.1 - pvh [01/Oct/2001:08:16:34 +0200] "GET /manage_page_style.css HTTP/1.1" 200 2894 "http://localhost:8080/manage_top_frame" "Opera/5.12 (Windows 95; U) [en]" Thanks for any hints, Peter -- Peter van Heusden pvh(a)leftside.wcape.school.za Tel: +27 (0)83 256 0457

Can I make ADO database connections from Zope?
by Herbert Sitz 01 Oct '01

I'm wondering how I can make ADO connections from within Zope. Is there any OLE-DB provider for Zope, or any in the works? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks! Herb Sitz Seattle, WA
