In the Splitter.c code, there is some line in the function check_synstop() (can't remember which line number) that is part of the code that marks things as stopwords. One of the things it does is evaluate an isalpha() function on the string. You would want to change that to isalnum() to enable numbers and recompile- that's it... If you need smaller words, you will make changes to the line that has the comment /* Single-letter words are stop words! */ in Splitter.c as well as make a change to GlobbingLexicon.py (in get() line 224 in Zope 2.3.2) from digrams.append((pattern[i] + pattern[i+1])) to: if (len(pattern) == 1): digrams.append((pattern[i] + self.eow)) break digrams.append((pattern[i] + pattern[i+1])) Sean -----Original Message----- From: Dieter Maurer [mailto:dieter@handshake.de] Sent: Tuesday, September 25, 2001 1:48 PM To: tovesj(a)oclc.org Cc: zope(a)zope.org Subject: [Zope] Re: Zope Splitter We want to have all questions go to the list.... I updated the splitter in order to get UTF-8 strings indexed. Someone else extended the splitter for recognizing numbers and words with less than 3 characters. There have been no problems at all when I modified and recompiled the splitter (under Unix!). I just edited the code and started "make" in the corresponding directory. That was it... Counter and concurrent access
by Yann Lugrin 26 Sep '01

Hello, I try to create a counter of which I am certain that it sends back in every Call a different result. I should so manage concurent acces on this one. The following method is not valid I have to look for a product which could make works: ---- ID = context.nextID context.manage_changeProperties( { 'nextID' : ID+1 } ) ---- But products found (FSCounter and to threadSafeCounter) uses the File System to manage the concurrent access on the counter value. I want to use the method described in the article " Advanced ZODB for python Programmers " ( Http://www.zope.org/Documentation/Articles/ZODB2) by creating a product based on the following code: ------------ class Counter(Persistent): self.count = 0 def hit(self): self.count = self.count + 1 return self.count def _p_resolveConflict(self, oldState, savedState, newState): # Figure out how each state is different: savedDiff= savedState['count'] - oldState['count'] newDiff= newState['count']- oldState['count'] # Apply both sets of changes to old state: return oldState['count'] + savedDiff + newDiff ---------- Is the class "Persistent" assure the value " self.count " to be not identical in two simultaneous calls of the "hit" method (not identical return value)? -- Yann Lugrin yann.lugrin(a)gmproject.net

Re: [Zope] Probably simple problem...

Hi... Well, effectively, that will probably work fine. But my problem is that I may have several folders like "/dsi" (or even subfolders of /dsi), each of them requiring use of the /news folder methods (/news is a folder handling every methods relatives to news, and so each folder can use these methods to display and handle several news relatives to each subject). So, I ABSOLUTELY don't want to duplicate my news handling methods in every folder that have to display news...!! Any idea ?? Is there any way to say in the /news/content_html method : I want to call the "get_last_news" object which is in "my" folder, and not anywhere else, without worrying of the place from which this method was called ?? [Q] start with root versus start rc.d/init.d
by Carl David 26 Sep '01

I'm still unable to get Zope to start by itself using RedHat 7.1 and scripts in /etc/rc.d/init.d. When one executes a script from the command line, it works, but when one lets the system execute the same script during boot, it fails. Can someone help me? I'm at a loss. Any suggestions would be great. this is where zope excels, imho. you can get the news done using dtml documents only, or use zclass, or make your own zope product. squishdot may be used to publish news. even cmf if you're brave (:)) there are available products to help you manage events. hth

Probably simple problem...
by Thierry FLORAC 26 Sep '01

Hi, another little problem I encounter while discovering Zope. I want to have such folders and objects : /dsi content_html (DTML Method) /news content_html (DTML Method) get_last_news (Z SQL Method) The "/news/content_html" method is using the "get_last_news" SQL method, in a <dtml-in get_last_news>...</dtml-in> loop. In the "/dsi/content_html", I want to include the result of the "/news/content_html" method, so I placed <dtml-var expr="news.content_html()"> in this script but when trying to view the result, I get a KeyError on "get_last_news", with the following traceback : Traceback (innermost last): File /usr/lib/zope/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 223, in publish_module File /usr/lib/zope/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 187, in publish File /usr/lib/zope/lib/python/Zope/__init__.py, line 221, in zpublisher_exception_hook (Object: Traversable) File /usr/lib/zope/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 171, in publish File /usr/lib/zope/lib/python/ZPublisher/mapply.py, line 160, in mapply (Object: content_html) File /usr/lib/zope/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 112, in call_object (Object: content_html) File /usr/lib/zope/lib/python/OFS/DTMLMethod.py, line 189, in __call__ (Object: content_html) File /usr/lib/zope/lib/python/DocumentTemplate/DT_String.py, line 549, in __call__ (Object: content_html) File /usr/lib/zope/lib/python/DocumentTemplate/DT_Util.py, line 339, in eval (Object: news.content_html()) (Info: news) File <string>, line 0, in ? File /usr/lib/zope/lib/python/OFS/DTMLMethod.py, line 182, in __call__ (Object: content_html) File /usr/lib/zope/lib/python/DocumentTemplate/DT_String.py, line 549, in __call__ (Object: content_html) File /usr/lib/zope/lib/python/DocumentTemplate/DT_In.py, line 652, in renderwob (Object: get_last_news) Where did I made any mistake ?? What's the right way to use scripts and methods in such a (probably basic !) way...?? Thank you for any help. Thierry

add content via ZMI or custom form?
by Roger Erens 26 Sep '01

26 Sep '01

Could someone discuss this point: when should I allow a user (say with a Writer-role) to add content to the site 1) via the ZMI, choosing Add DTML document and such like 2) via a custom made form, using submit (or upload) Is the main difference that for 1) one needs more HTML knowledge? Or are there other considerations as well? Kind regards, Roger

Deleting a DataSkin propertysheet?
by Jean Jordaan 26 Sep '01

26 Sep '01

Hi all I have code like this:: for user in users: if getattr(user.propertysheets, 'CommonProperties', None): user.propertysheets.manage_delPropertySheet('CommonProperties') user_ids.append(user.id) It doesn't look as if the 'manage_delPropertySheet' call is doing anything. The propertysheet 'CommonProperties' is:: DataSkin Attribute Property Sheet at /Control_Panel/Products/FekoWeb/FekoUser/propertysheets/common/CommonProper ties When the code executes, 'user_ids' is a list of all users who had 'CommonProperties'. However, 'CommonProperties' is not deleted. I can run the script over and over, and keep getting the same list in 'user_ids'. No errors are raised, and I have Manager and Owner roles with all permissions. Is there anything obvious I'm doing wrong? Regards, Jean

Help/Questions
by Todd Loomis 26 Sep '01

All: First is zope a good idea to use for this and if so how should I proceed. What I'm looking to do is make a dynamic site that allows personnel to create news items, web pages, events, and such that will automatically show on the site based on certain criteria. The criteria being a start and end date, priority of 1-5, 1 being must be seen first, 5 being show last. I've be doing this with PHP, however we'd like to move to zope as we feel this is a better option. If zope is a go how or would we be a good starting point. Any suggestions would be great.
