And read about the differences of DTML Methods vs. Documents, this explains it. cheers, oliver

Interface bug?
by dharmadude＠inwind.it 21 Sep '01

21 Sep '01

Hi there, I think there is something that doesn't work in the interface. I'm playing with python products and sometimes the interface has problems to show the objects ids. These are the two cases: 1) The ids wouldn't show up in the left frame while they were ok in the right frame. Even after many refresh, restart etc. I was setting the id getting it from the request.id (after the add form was submitted). I fixed this by explicitely passing an "id" parameter to the add function. I don't know why I would many any difference, and infact, the id was correctly set because I could see it in the right frame. The id wouldn't show up when I tried to do 'rename' either. That was annoying because I couldn't click on the object in the left frame because it relies on the id to print the correct url path. 2) after the __init__ for my product I do something like self.id=self.id+" test" now the ids in the left frame (and during rename) are correct, showing "someId test", while the ids in the object list in the righ frame still has "someId", that is no " test" was added. Still the same after refresh and restart. so it *really* looks like there a bug somewhere. Even if my products are doing strange things there's no way why the ids in the left and right frame should be different. I can reproduce these errors every time so it's not some strange boundary condition. Has anyone noticed this? I hope this might be helpful to someone out there. Thanks G.

RE: [Zope] regex in 2.4.0

I believe that Gadfly still uses regex, so perhaps this is where the warnings are coming from. Sooner or later, regex will go away altogether - that's what the warnings are for. At that point, Gadfly will stop working. So, Gadfly should really be fixed. Hmmm, perhaps that's a project for me... MySQLDA and remote MySQL Server
by Norman Khine 21 Sep '01

21 Sep '01

Hello, I have a problem understanding a concept, here goes: Installed Zope 2.4.1b1 on Win NT4 Back Office Server, all works great, I have M$ Server 7 running and the Zope Server can talk to that no problems, but I also have a remote FreeBSD server running Apache, MySQL and Zope 2.4.1b1 on this machine MySQL can happily talk to the Zope on this machine or to any other server that has MySQL installed on. So my problem is how to install ZMySQLDA on the NT4 box without having to install MySQL Server on this box as well? Is there a way to compile MySQL-python on the NT4 box or should I just copy this module from the FreeBSD box onto the NT4 box?! Many thanx Norman

Zope not seeing my standard_html_header (was: Newbie list)
by Simon Brunning 21 Sep '01

> From: Simon Brunning [SMTP:SBrunning@trisystems.co.uk] > Is there a Zope-tutor list, like the Python-tutor list at > <http://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/tutor>? Hmmm. I gather not. I can't find one on the Zope resources page, and no one has directed me to one. So I'll just ask my questions here, if that's OK. I'm running Zope 2.4.1 as a service on NT4SP6, and using IR5.5 for my browser. I'm working through the example given in chapter 5 of 'The Zope Book'. I have created 'zoo' folder, containing a 'navigation' DTML method containing the following: <ul> <dtml-in expr="objectValues('Folder')"> <li><a href="&dtml-absolute_url;"><dtml-var title_or_id></a></li><br> </dtml-in> </ul> Viewing this looks fine - I get a list of links to the subfolders within the 'zoo' folder. I also have a standard_html_header DTML method, as follows. <html> <head><title><dtml-var title_or_id></title></head> <body> <dtml-var navigation> Again, when I view this it all looks fine. Lastly, I have an index_html DTML document as follows: <dtml-var standard_html_header> <h1>Welcome to the Zope Zoo</h1> <p>Here you will find all kinds of cool animals. You are in the <b><dtml-var getId></b> section.</p> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> Viewing this, I have two problems. Firstly, the <dtml-var getId> is rendered as 'index_html', whereas I was expecting to see 'zoo', the name of the folder. Secondly, the navigation stuff from the standard_html_header is missing altogether. Any ideas? Please contact the server administrator, root(a)domain.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error. More information about this error may be available in the server error log. I have 8000 words indexed. What's going on? Thanks

IOError using Zope
by Robert Rottermann 21 Sep '01

21 Sep '01

Hi there, since I upgraded to Zope 2.4.1 and Python 2.1.1 I often get an IOError The only thing to get rid of it once it started to pop up is to restart Zope. What could be the reason for it and where to look for a remedy? thanks Robert Error Type: IOError Error Value: [Errno 5] Input/output error Traceback (innermost last): File /var/lib/zope/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 223, in publish_module File /var/lib/zope/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 187, in publish File /var/lib/zope/lib/python/Zope/__init__.py, line 226, in zpublisher_exception_hook (Object: LockableItem) File /var/lib/zope/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 171, in publish File /var/lib/zope/lib/python/ZPublisher/mapply.py, line 160, in mapply (Object: manage_performRefresh) File /var/lib/zope/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 112, in call_object (Object: manage_performRefresh) File /var/lib/zope/lib/python/App/Product.py, line 452, in manage_performRefresh (Object: LockableItem) File /var/lib/zope/lib/python/App/RefreshFuncs.py, line 265, in performFullRefresh File /var/lib/zope/lib/python/App/RefreshFuncs.py, line 258, in performSafeRefresh File /var/lib/zope/lib/python/App/RefreshFuncs.py, line 212, in logBadRefresh File /var/lib/zope/lib/python/zLOG.py, line 213, in LOG File /var/lib/zope/lib/python/ZLogger/ZLogger.py, line 17, in log_write File /var/lib/zope/lib/python/ZLogger/stupidFileLogger.py, line 99, in __call__ File /var/lib/zope/lib/python/ZLogger/stupidFileLogger.py, line 151, in stupid_log_write IOError: (see above)

RE: [Zope] Templates
by Kenneth Ellested 21 Sep '01

21 Sep '01

Thank you very much Lynn and Dieter. Yes I needed to dig a little further into the ZPT, as I was only experimenting with TAL. Well I've tried to implement some of the Macro examples but they always end up with the following error: Error Type: METALError Error Value: macro 'here/master' has incompatible version None, at line 1, column 1 I place both the "definition" and "use" templates in the same folder. If I insert a blank line in the template that uses the Macro, the error says line 2, column 1. I've done an exact copy of the Macro examples - both with and without namespaces. What's wrong ? Regards -----Oprindelig meddelelse----- Fra: Lynn Walton [mailto:waltonl@babbage.franklin.edu] Sendt: 20. september 2001 19:09 Til: zope(a)zope.org; Kenneth Ellested Emne: Re: [Zope] Templates > I'm trying to figure a way to avoid splitting "master" templates in two > files. F.ex the standard_html_header and footer is splitted in two parts, > making it "a little" more difficult to manage. I'd like a solution (probably > a class) where I can create a new document, and then base the new document > on a single template (like to have a combo box in the document properties > where I can select the template). So instead of referring to the template in > DTML or TAL for every document, I just change it with the document property. Take a look at: Zope Page Templates (ZPT) http://www.zope.org//Wikis/DevSite/Projects/ZPT/FrontPage It is exactly what you're talking about. Lynn

ZMI: find does not work for products
by Milos Prudek 21 Sep '01

21 Sep '01

ZMI find fails to locate text in ZClasses. The following dialog fails when invoked from root folder (or Products folder, or given ZClass folder), even though "my_method" is there. Find objects of type: All types Containing: my_method ZMI find works ok everywhere else, except for ZClasses. Tested on Zope 2.4.1. -- Milos Prudek

Re: [Zope] beehive zope hosting (OT?)
by Mark Pratt 21 Sep '01

21 Sep '01

Hello all, Since their seems to a lot of speculation why we stopped providing Zope Hosting I'd like to clear some things up and also answer some other questions brought up during this thread. In the early days of Zope (when it became Open Source) we fell in love with the software. We did everything we could to learn how to use it and spent a lot of time visiting companies who we thought should be using this software. In some cases we were also approached by fortune 500 companies about building Zope solutions. In some cases these companies were willing to take "a risk" and contracted work out to us in other cases they told us that the infrastructure was not in place to make Zope a viable platform to work with. That hurt! All companies complained about a lack of Zope infrastructure: What was this infrastructure? - Zope Hosting - Documentation - Training and by extension not enough developers who knew how to work with Zope. What did beehive do? We became the first European Zope Hosting provider. We became the first commercial documentation provider. We were the first company in Europe to offer Zope Training and currently offer regular training sessions in Berlin (Germany), Paris (France), Washington D.C. (USA). I would like to stress that our motivations were: 1. to train our own rapidly growing development team 2. to prove that Zope was viable technology worth investing in / and foster community growth 3. figure out what services we really enjoyed providing (money isn't everything) Our conclusion so far is: * Zope Hosting isn't our thing* Plenty other companies all over the world are providing this service for the most up-to-date list please see: http://www.zope.org/Resources/ZSP * Documentation is our thing * I'll never forget the first Python conference that had a Zope track and how many people complained about the lack of documentation. beehive had the same problem but we were documenting how to do things with Zope for internal use -- it was here that we decided we needed to take a risk and pay an editor to professionally edit our ebooks. We offered our documentation for a symbolic price and were amazed to see how many people across the world were using Zope and were interested in this service. The word 'many' here is relative. We were doing low volume publishing and you can take my word for this -- we have so far not made a profit. Breaking even is would be nice but we are convinced that without our efforts the Zope market as a whole would be deemed a little less viable. And for those complaining about 30 DM or 90 DM prices for our documentation -- when you take a look at how many hours, days and months we invest to produce our documentation and you buy one of our your not even paying for an hour of our time (at our hourly rate)! We need to stress that we *love* constructive criticism on how we can improve our doc efforts. Even if we don't always respond to every mail -- we read it and discuss it at our E&P meetings. A big beehive hug to all those who have done so in the past. Regarding our books in print (1 out - 2 to go) if your concerned about spending double digit DM or $ wait till the book comes out go to a bookstore grab a chair and read a bit. If you don't like what your reading -- don't buy the book! Again constructive criticism is always welcome -- we have an email address just for this purpose: zope-ep(a)beehive.de . One of our books is out in German two more are on the way: -- Zope Web Application Construction Kit (October 2001) Take a look at a copy in your local bookstore when it comes out in mid October. We hope you'll like it. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0672321335/qid=1001066852/sr=1-2/ref… -- The Book of Zope (November 2001) A book aimed more at the beginning programmer. To answer the question brought up by Takashi Linzbichler The Book of Zope is based on our German book but we had more time so we made some changes and added new information. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1886411573/qid=1001066852/sr=1-3/ref… * We love Zope Training * We have done a lot of individual and corporate training lately and love it! Many new training topics are in production. And we hope to expand this service to make regular Zope Training available wherever Zopeists are. Hope I've been able to clear up some of the confusion and made some of our business decisions more transparent.
