'popen' calls not happening?
by Jean Jordaan 07 Sep '01

Hi all We've been successfully using this code from an external method to run a third-party program, but it's mysteriously stopped working:: try: child_stdout, \ child_stdin, \ child_stderr = popen3('/usr/local/zope/creme/2-3-0/Extensions/passfeko /usr/local/zope/creme/2-3-0/Extensions/passfeko.xml') success.append("'passfeko' executed.\n") #DBG except: exception = sys.exc_info() errors.append( "Could not execute 'passfeko'" \ + '\n --' + str(exception[0]) \ + '\n --' + str(exception[1]) \ + '\n --' + str(exception[2]) \ ) # TODO: display the traceback. The third-party program, 'passfeko', writes a textfile, taking the 'passfeko.xml' file as input. If I run:: ./passfeko passfeko.xml from the commandline, the textfile is flawlessly created. When run from Zope, no exception is raised, but no textfile is created. Any ideas? Jean

Lack of traceback
by Montagne, Michael 07 Sep '01

Is there some reason why the traceback listing of errors would not be functioning anymore? I've really started to rely on that. Are there certain conditions where it is not supposed to show? I'm running 2.3.2 on winNT4. -mjm

Looking at the WebDAV support bug in bugzilla (which sadly looks unlikely to arrive in the forseeable future) I noticed a passing note by gerv that they're looking at putting mozilla.org onto Zope. I think that's cool :-) http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13383 seb

click-stream collection and analysis with Zope??
by Trevor Toenjes 07 Sep '01

07 Sep '01

My latest newbie challenge...! Has anyone implemented an extensive user tracking system with Zope? Is this built into Zope anywhere? I am looking for the right combo of products and how-to's to figure this out. Should I use ZODB or zSQL, or pgSQL, etc? What performance problems will Zope have? forcing external methods, etc? I figured to use a permanent cookie (because I cant force a login) to assign a GUID (global user id) and then track everything the user ever does (click-stream)and when. Then correlate form data(surveys/polls, etc) with the GUID. I think this is different from blogging??? because the tracking is specific to the GUID/cookie. and not an IP. I would love some advice to generate the GUID itself too, so it cant be hacked and would never generate the same number twice.. whew...Thanks soo much for any feedback, Trevor

Kaivo CatalogQuery-0.1.1
by Tim Hicks 07 Sep '01

07 Sep '01

I am having a bit of a problem making CatalogQuery 0.1.1 behave how I want it to under Zope 2.4.0. Basically, I have a Script (Python) that accepts a parameter 'search', that I want to use inside the 'query' method of Catalog. Here is my code: results = context.Catalog.query('title==search', REQUEST) # or paint==search or exhibition==search or style==search or for_sale==search) >From this, I get: Error Type: NameError Error Value: name 'search' is not defined Removing the quotes, thus: results = context.Catalog.query(title==search, REQUEST) # or paint==search or exhibition==search or style==search or for_sale==search) I get, this error: Error Type: AttributeError Error Value: 'int' object has no attribute 'replace' I'm sure it's me being dumb (but I have tried searching the list archive), coz that has certainly been the case in the past, but if anyone could point me in the right direction, I'd be mightily appreciative. cheers tim
