From ZODB to RDBMS
by Ausum 06 Sep '01

06 Sep '01

Let's suppose that at the beggining of a site development, it was decided to use ZODB as the only one storage. Let's also suppose that after a few months, by non-technical issues (sticking to ZODB couldn't be option), it was decided to switch the whole database to a high-end RDMS like Oracle. How would you export zope objects' data to a relational database? Thanks in advance, Ausum

MySQL or PostGres
by Chris Withers 06 Sep '01

Hi, Which out of MySQL or PostGres would work better with Zope? Which has the more stable DA and what one should I use in each case? (kinda OT for Zope, but which has the better full-text search capability?) cheers, Chris

This is very odd. I'm willing to look at this. I'm certainly interested in seeing data files that fsrecover doesn't work on, so that I can make it work better. I've heard of a case like this before. fsrecover only works on bad transaction records, not bad data records. I've seen one or two cases where data records were damaged but transaction records weren't, but I've never had an actual data.fs file with this problem to look at. I actually worked up a patch at one point, but was uncomfortable incoporating it without test data. It would probably be a good idea to give me a login (ssh) to a machine where the data file is, rather than trying to send it to me. Alternatively, you could put a compressed copy on a CD and FedEx it to me to look at tomorrow. Obviously, I need the original corrupted file. Do you have a backup? There are certainly some hardware failures that will render the file unusable. This is true for all databases. Authentication Problem
by Matthew Speedy 06 Sep '01

Hello I have a slight problem with the software. I use Suse 7.2, and have installed Zope using Yast2, so I didn't compile it myself... I set up an initial username and password using the following... ./zpasswd inituser It seems to accept it. When I go to http://localhost:8080; and I try to log on, it never accepts my username/password. I didn't know if there was a conflict with Apache since Zope loads ZServer, so I stopped the Apache service. So I can only access port 8080. It still doesn't accept it. What shall I do? You might look at analog for analyzing web server logs. http://www.analog.cx > -----Original Message----- > From: Laurie Nason [mailto:laurien@blake.3dem.bioch.bcm.tmc.edu] > Sent: Thursday, September 06, 2001 8:11 AM > To: Zope > Subject: [Zope] Zope Log Parsing Product > > > Does anybody know if anyone has written one to produce > reports based on the > Z2.log? Can't use 'document_src' in python script - any alternatives?
by Tony McDonald 06 Sep '01

06 Sep '01

Hi all, This is a rehash of a XXX-PythonMethod (remember them!) I had this at the top of my original XXX-PythonMethod import DocumentTemplate savedir = self.savedir template_str = self.template.read_raw() template = DocumentTemplate.HTML(template_str) ...and further on... theresult = template(self, results=results, identifier=identifier) return theresult (ie it gets a DTML method called 'template' and then fills in the <dtml-var results> and <dtml-var identifier> areas to create a filled-in document) But the PythonScript complained a bit, so I changed it to import DocumentTemplate self = context REQUEST = self.REQUEST savedir = self.savedir # template_str = self.template.read_raw() template_str = self.template.document_src() template = DocumentTemplate.HTML(template_str) But it still doesn't want to let me touch document_src (it also complained about read_raw). Is there a better way of doing this using PythonScripts and the like? Hi, I am running Zope 2.3.0 on Linux and after a power failure the db is corrupted: File "/home/ofrommel/Zope-2.3.0-src/lib/python/ZODB/FileStorage.py", line 218, in panic raise CorruptedTransactionError, message ZODB.FileStorage.CorruptedTransactionError: /home/ofrommel/Zope/var/Data.fs data record exceeds transaction record at 35816171L now when I try to fix it with fsrecover I get the following error message: [root@m945 var]# python ../lib/python/ZODB/fsrecover.py Data.fs Traceback (innermost last): File "../lib/python/ZODB/fsrecover.py", line 94, in ? FileStorage.recover(sys.argv[1]) File "/home/ofrommel/Zope-2.3.0-src/lib/python/ZODB/FileStorage.py", line 1529, in recover npos = shift_transactions_forward( File "/home/ofrommel/Zope-2.3.0-src/lib/python/ZODB/FileStorage.py", line 1455, in shift_transactions_forward if plen: p=read(plen) OverflowError: long int too long to convert how can I fix the database now? thanks for your help -oliver
