User Management
by Frank Stephan 05 Sep '01

05 Sep '01

Hi, what would be the best way to integrate a user management in my own app. The client must be able to create and manage users and to assign specific rights to that users (like uploading a file or only viewing or the right to create new users). Is there an easy way to accomplish this without having the client using Zope's management console? TIA Frank

RE: [Zope] pyperl install failure
by Doyon, Jean-Francois 05 Sep '01

This is because you're trying to build with MULTI_PERL, which tells the build process to expect a threaded Perl, whcih is not the default. Delete the MULTI_PERL file from the root of your build directory to fix this. Note that if however you want to use zoperl, you will NEED to build against a threaded perl no matter what. zoperl seems pretty cool, although I haven't tried it yet mind you. I'd ecommend you build a custom perl with threading support as per the docs and then build pyperl and zoperl ... cheers, J.F. > ---------- > From: Kerekes Lajos[SMTP:lkerekes@xperts.hu] > Sent: Wednesday, September 05, 2001 1:27 PM > To: zope(a)zope.org > Subject: [Zope] pyperl install failure > > Hi! > > I use Zope 2.3.3 under Red Hat Linux 7.0 > > I'd like to use perl scripts under Zope, and I want to > install the pyperl 1.0.1. pyperl install failure

Hi! I use Zope 2.3.3 under Red Hat Linux 7.0 I'd like to use perl scripts under Zope, and I want to install the pyperl 1.0.1. I followed the instructions, (cd Python-Object, perl MakeFile.pl), and when I got this error at "make install": gcc -c -I"/usr/include/python1.5" -fno-strict-aliasing -O2 -march=i386 -mcpu=i686 -DVERSION=\"1.00\" -DXS_VERSION=\"1.00\" -fPIC -I/usr/lib/perl5/5.6.0/i386-linux/CORE -DMULTI_PERL Object.c In file included from Object.xs:11: ../lang_lock.h:67: parse error before `last_py_tstate' ../lang_lock.h:67: warning: data definition has no type or storage class make: *** [Object.o] Error 1 Does anybody know what is the problem, what shall I do? I installed Distutils 1.0.2 before pyperl install. Thanks: Lajos Kerekes

Zope and filename.extensions
by Mitch Pirtle 05 Sep '01

05 Sep '01

Hey Zopistas, Just had one of those "deep thoughts" and wanted to ask the list: When one uses ftp/webdav one needs file extensions (".html",".dtml",".spleen"), but that DOT in there really messes up calls to methods, functions, properties, etc... Imagine a directory called "images" stuffed full of stuff like "logo.jpg", "spleen.png" etc. Also imagine wanting to dynamically get at those files' attributes, or play about with them for one reason or other. This becomes more complicated than is needed, doesn't it? How do you (em, er, you know, the one's that actually know what they are doing) get around this feature? Will I always have to go through extra hoops just to use commin filenames to support non-ZMI editors?

bobobase_modification_time + date format issues
by Joe Gaffey 05 Sep '01

05 Sep '01

Hi all, A quick issue with date formats. I know there is loads on the mailing lists (I have read loads), but nothing that I can see that solves my problem. I am doing a query on a ZCatalog which I want to return the 10 newest documents, and put them in a table with the date, title and author. It all works fine except the date is always wrong. (See my code below - index_html - a dtml_method) the first line in the table output is : 17 Jul Rational Software - UML Poster Joe but the actual last modified date is today (05 Sep). The bobobase_modification_time in the catalog is 2001/09/05 10:26:57.0591 GMT-5 which looks right to me. The Zope book mentions casting the data. Is this the problem, if so, how would I do that? TIA, Joe. Here is my code: <table> <tr> <th>Date</th> <th>Title</th> <th>Author</th> </tr> <dtml-in "Catalog(sort_on='bobobase_modification_time',sort_order='reverse')" size=10> <tr> <td> <dtml-var bobobase_modification_time fmt="%d %b"> </td> <td> <a href="<dtml-var "Catalog.getpath(data_record_id_)">"> <dtml-var title></a> </td> <td> <dtml-var author> </td> </tr> </dtml-in> </table>

"has()" not implemented in method unrestrictedTraverse() in OFS/Traversable.py
by Christopher N. Deckard 05 Sep '01

05 Sep '01

In Zope 2.4.1-beta1 in the OFS/Traversable module, unrestrictedTraverse(...) calls a method "has()" which apparently has not been implemented. unrestrictedTraverse() looks to be completely rewritten, and with not being able to spend lots of time looking at the code, I don't know how to fix it... Here is part of the Zope error message and traceback: <traceback> Zope Error! Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. Error Type: NameError Error Value: global name 'has' is not defined If the error persists please contact the site maintainer. Thank you for your patience. Maybe this has been fixed already. What should "has()" be doing at this point? Thanks, -Chris -- -------------------------------------------------------------------- Christopher N. Mysterious crash with Zope 2.4.x
by Berthold Stöger 05 Sep '01

05 Sep '01

Hi, I'm porting an application from Zope 2.0 to Zope 2.4.1 and am experiencing strange crashes. We use a session manager written in C with a Python interface. When calling the get() method of the session object in DTML (be it in a var-, call- or if- tag), Zope crashes, but when passing the session object down to an External Method and calling get() from there, it works! I put a printf() in the first line of the get() function and realized that Zope crashes before calling the function. The crashing DTML Method looks like this: <dtml-call "test2(REQUEST.session2)"> <dtml-call "test3(REQUEST)"> <dtml-let s="REQUEST.session2"> <dtml-call "test2(s)"> <dtml-var "s.get('pop_show')"><br> </dtml-let> The standard_html_header prepares the session object and puts it in REQUEST.session2 test2 is an External Method looking like this: def test2(a): print "test:" + str(a) print "test2:" + str(a.get('pop_show')) and test3 looks like this: def test3(REQUEST): s = REQUEST.session2 print "test3:" + str(s.get('pop_show')) print "test3:" + str(REQUEST.session2.get('pop_show')) The DTML method crashes in <dtml-var "s.get('pop_show')">. test2() and test3() work as they should. Is there a way to find out where Zope crashes (I have a feeling it's somewhere in the C Codes)? Where shall I put strategic printf()s?? thanx, bs
