I'm trying to extract the IPTC/NAA caption information from JPEGs stored by Photoshop. I've noticed the IPTC plugin for the Python Imaging Library, but can't figure out how it works and can't seem to find any helpful docs on it. Two questions: Anyone know how to do this, and is it best once I've figure out that part of the puzzle to access it through an external method? Or is Zope gonna strip out the information when the image is made into an image object? Thanks! -- Chris Muldrow muldrow(a)mac.com cmuldrow(a)fredeicksburg.com

RE: [Zope] mySQL and Zope and multiple databases

Yes, this is what I mean. I can do it from the mySQL admin tool just fine. I will look into external methods then. Thanks! -----Original Message----- From: Eric Walstad [mailto:eric@walstads.net] Sent: Tuesday, August 07, 2001 1:35 PM To: Schmidt, Allen J.; Zope mailing list Subject: RE: [Zope] mySQL and Zope and multiple databases Allen, I just reread your message and I think misunderstood it the first time. The link I sent before describes querying two databases, not querying against two MySQL Database connections in one ZSQL method... This kind of query could be run from an external method that queries the two databases and returns the result set to Zope, tho. I think that would do what you need. As each ZSQL method has one database connection property, I'm not sure how, or if, you could specify using two database connections in one ZSQL method. mySQL and Zope and multiple databases
by Schmidt, Allen J. 07 Aug '01

We are moving a bunch of stuff to mySQL. One database currently exists and some of the new tables that need to be brought in have the same names. If I create a new database to house the new tables, how can I use ZSQL methods to compare fields in tables between two ZmySQL connections? Thanks

RE: [Zope] Building a page from multiple paramatised queries
by Farrell, Troy 07 Aug '01

A few bits of advice for you: 1) Never use an SQL key of ID with Zope. It could lead to a namespace collision, as id is a zope term referring to an objects id. You probably haven't had a problem _yet_, as ZSQL methods use the REQUEST namespace almost (there are some unusual instances) exclusively. I usually prefix it with something like "sql_" so I get "sql_Id". 2) To get SQL data from REQUEST explicitly, use <dtml-var expr="REQUEST.sql_variable_name"> (or is it <dtml-var expr="REQUEST.sql_variable_name()">) Try something like this: ### FeatureDetail ### <dtml-var name="standard_html_header"> <dtml-in name="FeatureDetailQuery"> <h1><dtml-var name="Name"></h1> <dtml-in name="Query2"> <p> <dtml-var name="bosco"> </p> </dtml-in> </dtml-in> ### FeatureDetailQuery ### SELECT * FROM Feature WHERE <dtml-sqltest sql_Id op="eq" type="int"> ### Query2 ### SELECT bosco FROM Fishsticks WHERE <dtml-sqltest sql_Id op="eq" type="int"> Note also that in my above FeatureDetail, if FeatureDetailQuery returns more than one row of data, you will get something like: <h1>SOme name</h1> <p> Stuff </p> <h1>Some other name</h1> <p> More stuff </p> Troy -----Original Message----- From: Giles Chamberlin [mailto:GChamberlin@Ridgeway-Sys.com] Sent: Tuesday, August 07, 2001 6:06 AM To: 'zope(a)zope.org' Subject: [Zope] Building a page from multiple paramatised queries I'm a zope novice so I'm probably missing something obvious. My intent is to build a web page from the results of two queries, each of which are paramatised by the same value. I've got a single query working fine: FeatureDetailQuery has a parameter ID and SQL: select * from Feature where <dtml-sqltest Id op=eq type=int> FeatureDetail is a simple web page: <dtml-var standard_html_header> <h1><dtml-var Name></h1> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> and I bind the two together by referencing them with the a href = FeatureDetailQuery/Id/<dtml-var Id>/FeatureDetail All's well. My problem is that I want to add the output of another query, also parametised by Id to the same web page and I'm stumped as to how to go about it. Any suggestions? Giles Chamberlin

RE: [Zope] Cataloging AND (indexing OR meta data)
by sean.upton＠uniontrib.com 07 Aug '01

Since ZCatalog objects are 'dumb' and don't have direct access to the objects they have indexed, and it would be nice to have some of the data from those objects for search results pages somehow, we need some way of getting that data. Metadata is essentially a cache of that data (or a copy, that is) that is used for constructing result lists. You should only put fieldnames for properties containing summary data in the meta data tabs. An alternative to using metadata in Zope 2.3+ is using Catalog.getObject() which will return the object in each iteration; I currently do this in one of my applications because I have had problems using metadata on some fields (likely because I was doing it wrong). There is a big performance penalty for going about it this way, though, as you have to traverse the ODB to each object to get data for each line in your result list. Eventually, once I get it working right, I will switch this over to using metadata instead, which might increase re-indexing time, but increase result list performance since I eliminate the need for getObject()... Sean -----Original Message----- From: Peter Bengtsson [mailto:mail@peterbe.com] Sent: Tuesday, August 07, 2001 9:18 AM To: zope(a)zope.org Subject: [Zope] Cataloging AND (indexing OR meta data) I've got a bunch of objects that I catalog. I have added a few properties to the Indexes which makes it possible for me now to search on these properties. Everything is jolly! However, I honestly don't understand the Meta data tab. All I can practically do there is add names of properties and that already works spendid with the Indexes. Anybody got a clear explaination for ZCatalog-dummy on this one? PS. I read the Zope Book chapter on meta data but despite that I still didn't get it. Hopefully I've just lost a very important small piece of knowledge that is needed. RE: [Zope] My first silly Question
by Farrell, Troy 07 Aug '01

Urk? I'm not sure we understand. I think you have something like this: folder1/folder2/folder3/folder4/page5 and a DTML Method at folder1/method2. If you want to show page5 in content 2, you need to do <dtml-var expr="folder2.folder3.folder4.page5(_.None, _)"> in the source for content 2. If that's not what you need, please clarify. Thanks.
