DCOracle 1.32 weirdness -- quick help needed
by Shai Berger 07 Aug '01

07 Aug '01

Hi Zopers, Sorry for cross-posting -- I need help on this rather fast... I have been using ZOracleDA and DCOracle quite happily. Now, I needed to branch a "test" zope from the "dev" zope. As I was using the INSTANCE_HOME setup, this was a breeze: I shut zope down, copied the instance directory tree, meddled a little with the start scripts to give it different ports, fixed my httpd.conf, et voila. A new zope, up and running, independent of the first one. Except... Except that Oracle connections won't open. When I try to open them manually, they say, """ <strong>Invalid connection string: </strong><CODE>not/gonna@tellya</CODE><br> <PRE> Traceback (innermost last): File /home/src/Zope-2.3.2-src/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 223, in publish_module File /home/src/Zope-2.3.2-src/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 187, in publish File /home/src/Zope-2.3.2-src/lib/python/Zope/__init__.py, line 221, in zpublisher_exception_hook (Object: RoleManager) File /home/src/Zope-2.3.2-src/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 171, in publish File /home/src/dev/../Zope-2.3/lib/python/ZPublisher/mapply.py, line 160, in mapply (Object: manage_open_connection) File /home/src/Zope-2.3.2-src/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 112, in call_object (Object: manage_open_connection) File /home/src/Zope-2.3.1-src/lib/python/Shared/DC/ZRDB/Connection.py, line 220, in manage_open_connection (Object: RoleManager) File /home/src/Zope-2.3.1-src/lib/python/Shared/DC/ZRDB/Connection.py, line 240, in connect (Object: RoleManager) File /home/src/test/Products/ZOracleDA/db.py, line 123, in __init__ File /home/src/test/Products/ZOracleDA/DCOracle/ocidb.py, line 90, in cursor File /home/src/test/Products/ZOracleDA/DCOracle/ociCurs.py, line 105, in __init__ BadRequest: (see above) </PRE> """ At first I thought it was some stupid system thing, where the paths of the .pyc files were somehow encoded in them. So I went and deleted them all, and restarted, to no avail. Then I thought that it was the same problem, but with the python extensions. But it couldn't be: they were not built on this machine at all, and some files (Python's /lib/config/...) that are required in order to do this are missing. I have on the same Zope an installation of DCO2, patched to allow it to coexist with ZOracleDA. This works flawlessly. And ZOracleDA works flawlessly on the original, "dev" zope. Zope 2.3.2 ZOracleDA 2.1 (I think; only indication is the CHANGES.txt file) DCOracle 1.3.2 (I think) Oracle 8.0.5 (I don't think this matters) Red Hat 6.2 Any ideas? Thanks, Shai.

RE: [Zope] Passing arguments with hyperlinks

> > Even easier: <dtml-in myZSQLMethod> > > > > The namespace-passing stuff all works automatically as long as you have > > "teamid" in the parameter list of the ZSQL method ... > > That would make sense, but I seem to recall having problems with this in the > past. Maybe I'm thinking of some other case. Yes, if you try to call the same method later by defining the teamid (or any other argument) in DTML (be it through <dtml-let>, <dtml-in>, <dtml-with> or whatever) it will fail. The namespace-passing works only for variables in REQUEST. I took me quite some time to realise all the intricacies of it, with the help Dieter Maurer. A set of other wierdness happens inside the ZSQL Method: The DTML namespace inside is copied from REQUEST, rather than including request as in DTML Methods and Documents. This means that while the only variables recognized in the ZSQL Method are those defined in the REQUEST before entry, <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('var',value)"> does not make var available to dtml (other than "REQUEST.get('var')", of course). This behavior is surprising, IMHO bordering on broken, but that's how it stands. You can make the namespace-passing work as you expect with <dtml-in "myZSQLMethod(_)">. This fix has been mentioned in many places, including ZB, I think, but this still catches people unaware every time. Have fun, Shai.

how to pass <dtml-var sequence-item> to an external method from D TML?
by Manchester, John 07 Aug '01

07 Aug '01

Hi Folks, I'm trying to surface self description methods on some code into a quick UI in Zope. Short of conforming to the Zope product spec, external methods seem like the way to go since I'm making remote method calls on the back-end (Python Script objects won't cut it). I have 2 methods: one that returns a list of the attributes available on my remote object; and one that takes the name of an attribute and returns some descriptive text about that attribute. For a simple test, I'm sucking all available attributes out of my remote object, then looping through them to get a description for each one: <dtml-in getPropNames> <dtml-var sequence-item> <dtml-var getPropDescription("<dtml-var sequence-item>")> </dtml-in> Which throws the message: Invalid attribute name, """, for tag <dtml-var getPropDescription("<dtml-var sequence-item>")> I've tried some variations on the syntax, including using <dtml-let>, with absolutely no success, and seem to be missing the boat. Am I overlooking some detail of the syntax, or just conceptualizing the design wrong? Please help. Feel free to use the words "Ha!" and "fool". ZSQL, Python Script, number of records
by Milos Prudek 07 Aug '01

07 Aug '01

Hi, To check whether a record exists I'm using this: exist (ZSQL method): SELECT count(*) as I FROM ... WHERE ... ; Python Script: for x in exist(m_id=m_id): if x.i==0: print "no data" else: print "there are some data" This works... but it's strange to use "for" for it... is there a simpler method? Just an "if", wthout "for"? I tried to adapt the "exist" ZSQL to show a column from the table: exist2 (ZSQL method): SELECT count(*) as I, fname FROM ... WHERE ... ; It fails and it recommends to put "fname" into GROUP BY. So: exist3 (ZSQL method): SELECT count(*) as I, fname FROM ... WHERE ... GROUP BY fname; That works but IMHO it's a very ugly hack and it may breed trouble later on. Is there a more elegant way to get both values and number of values using a single ZSQL method? -- Milos Prudek

Hi Milos, > To check whether a record exists I'm using this: > > exist (ZSQL method): > SELECT count(*) as I FROM ... WHERE ... ; > > Python Script: > for x in exist(m_id=m_id): > if x.i==0: > print "no data" > else: > print "there are some data" > > This works... but it's strange to use "for" for it... is there a simpler > method? Just an "if", wthout "for"? > if exist(m_id=m_id)[0][0]: ... or if exist(m_id=m_id)[0].i: ... The object returned by a ZSQL method is a list of rows. The fields of the row can be accessed either by name (as attributes of the row) or by number. > I tried to adapt the "exist" ZSQL to show a column from the table: > exist2 (ZSQL method): > SELECT count(*) as I, fname FROM ... WHERE ... ; > > It fails and it recommends to put "fname" into GROUP BY. So: > exist3 (ZSQL method): > SELECT count(*) as I, fname FROM ... WHERE ... GROUP BY fname; What you seem to miss is that an SQL query always returns a set of rows of uniform structure. That is, you cannot have "a value and a list of values". In your specific case, the situation is much simpler. The number of items is the number of rows returned. So, exist4(ZSQL method): SELECT fname FROM ... WHERE...; In your python script: names = exist4(m_id=m_id) if(not names): # if there is no data, names is an empty list print "no data" else: for name in names: ... You can get the number of names as len(names). HTH, Shai.

:records and value assignment in Python Script
by Milos Prudek 07 Aug '01

07 Aug '01

Struggling with the ":records" form construct... I have a "writers" object that contains fname and lname text fields. It looks like this: [fname: "Chris", lname: "McDonough", fname: "John", lname: "Malkovich"] I need to add a new text field, auth, and I need to compute and assign it's value during the form processing. Adding new field was not that difficult: I just changed the form and added <input type="hidden" name="auth" value="">. I don't know how I would add a new field using Python... but it is not important right now. But how can I change the value? I tried this inside Python Script: for w in writers: print w.auth # this is OK. w.auth="x" # this fails with "attribute-less object (assign or del)". -- Milos Prudek

RE: [Zope] a problem with "skip_unauthorized"
by Sylvain Boureliou 07 Aug '01

Hi, No, it's not a problem with my "publish" method, this code works with an older zope. It's perhaps a bug with zope 2.4, like says Joachim Werner. The solution? Use a bloc try-except in the dtml-in tag? it's not clean. Sylvain > > I use zope 2.4.0 and i have a problem with "skip_unauthorized". > > I want to publish some documents, but obviously, anonymous users are not > > allowed to view administrator's documents. > > So i use "skip_unauthorized" in the "in" tag, but an error is raised : > > You are not authorized to access xxx > > Which means that "skip_unauthorized" does not work !. What is the proper approach to this problem? > Is there a good way to store a bunch of info about rows returned > from a ZSQL Query. I've briefly heard of pluggable brains,but.... Hi Michael, You can create links like this: <a href="ProjTeamMembers?teamid=&dtml-FirmTeamId;"><dtml-var FirmName></a> When you click on it, ProjTeamMembers will be run with the variable 'teamid' in the namespace. When you call your ZSQL method, you just pass it the argument, as in: <dtml-in expr="myZSQLMethod(teamid=teamid)"> ...display team member... </dtml-in> This should give you what you're looking. You don't need pluggable brians for this. _______________________ Ron Bickers Logic Etc, Inc.

How to clean a vocabulary
by Rogerio Atem de Carvalho 06 Aug '01

06 Aug '01

Hi, do vocabulary objects delete a word that is not referenced anymore (I don´t think so)? If not, how can I programatically clean a vocabulary object inside a ZCatalog, I mean, delete all (or some specific) words that are not in use anymore? One more question: is there a size limit or number of objects limit one can store in a folder hierarchy, or the limit for Zope is only the data.fs limit? regards, Rogerio Atem
