A class has been declared protected, but its subObjects are still exposed?
by Dirksen 01 Aug '01

Hi, I have a folder class extends from ObjectManager, and is declared protected as in: security = ClassSecurityInfo() security.declareObjectProtected('View') I also deprive anonymous user the permission of 'View' in the security setting of this folder(an instance of my class). All immediate methods are protected, but the subObjects contained within are still exposed to anonymous. I put those two lines in the subObject class, doesn't help either. What's missing? Accelerated HTTP Cache Manager proper use?
by Irene Barg 01 Aug '01

01 Aug '01

Hello All, Zope Version: Zope 2.3.2 (binary release, python 1.5.2, solaris-2.6-sparc) Python Version: 1.5.2 (#8, Nov 16 1999, 10:05:41) [GCC 2.8.1] System Platform: sunos5 How do I set the HTTP directive "Pragma: no-cache" in my Accelerated HTTP Cache Manager? I've created an Accelerated HTTP Cache Manager object in a folder that controls updates to a database. I have set the settings to: Interval (seconds): 300 Cache anonymous connections only? enabled Notify URLs: What can I put in the box "Notify URL's"? Can I put the "Pragma: no-cache" there? My problem is a lot of my users use an AOL browser, and they experience problems using my interactive update pages. The scenario goes like this: 1. AOL user goes to my db update folder "/Families/Update", and queries the db for a family record. 2. An edit page returns the family info, the user is allowed to edit fields. 3. The users then presses either 'Update', 'Delete', 'Insert'. 4. The db edits are implemented, and a response is sent to the user. My AOL users, never get past step 3. When they press 'Update' they get a response that the 'server is not responding or service is unavailable'. I want to disable the AOL proxy server caching for my db update pages, but I don't know if this will solve the problem. My update pages consist of forms that call other DTML objects like: <dtml-var insertFamilyInputs> and the form's action is: <form action="updateFamily"> While searching through the mailing lists, I noticed that some users had problems loading style sheets when they used relative links. Since the above two examples are not 'href's, I don't think this is related to my problem. Any insight on this problem is greatly appreciated. -- irene barg ---------------------------------------------------------------- Irene Barg Email: ibarg(a)as.arizona.edu Steward Observatory Phone: 520-621-2602 933 N. RE: [Zope] Zope v OpenACS and nonprofit application developers
by sean.upton＠uniontrib.com 01 Aug '01

I haven't used OpenACS or anything of the like, but I would suggest that Zope offers a much more flexible system for developers with a few things you won't get with ACS: 1 - An object database - much more natural for non-programmers to work with content directly within its repository. 2 - Python - which should be easier to develop any sizable application than TCL on any day 3 - ACS seems to have been hijacked by Java terrorists within AD. Python is almost always going to yield much quicker class development than Java: likely twofold or better. 4 - There is a lower barrier for maintaining a Zope installation, because you can develop a solution that is free of RDBMS or the need for an external web server. So I guess what I am getting at is that, in theory, Zope has a lower entry barrier for folks to make modifications to the applications developed on top of it, and a lower TCO; this would be a crucial thing for non-profits, I would think... Sean -----Original Message----- From: Michael Ward [mailto:mward@techrocks.org] Sent: Wednesday, August 01, 2001 7:50 AM To: zope(a)zope.org Subject: [Zope] Zope v OpenACS and nonprofit application developers Hello all: I work with a nonprofit organization that helps other nonprofits with technology. We do everything from developing a free desktop database application, www.ebase.org, to providing strategic consulting to progressive activist groups on how to further their mission. Currently, there is a very active discussion about building applications for the nonprofit world in open source tools. 2 platforms are being discussed OpenACS and Zope. The discussion has quite a few champions/developers of OpenACS, but there aren't any people that seem to have real experience with Zope. A couple have played with it or done small projects. The discussion is taking place on a listserver sponsored by the Nonprofit Open Source Intiative, www.nosi.net, which isn't much of anything beside the discussion that I am referring to. If there are some people in this community that have an interest in nonprofit organizations and would be willing to share their expertise on zope, it would be greatly appreciated at this important decisionmaking time for us. Not to mention I think there will be some development power spawned out of this discussion. So...You can subscribe from here => http://www.nosi.net/mailman/listinfo/nosi-discussion . (If you look at the archives, the discussion gets interesting around the post with the subject "The problem of picking a programming language/framework". And honestly, I don't think Zope sucks as badly as the OpenACS people say ; ) (That is a total joke trying to bait people into participating.) m -- Michael Ward Senior Consultant TechRocks, A supporting organization to the Rockefeller Family Fund mward(a)techrocks.org 212-812-4255 http://www.techrocks.org _______________________________________________ Zope maillist - Zope(a)zope.org http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope ** No cross posts or HTML encoding! ** (Related lists - http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-announce http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-dev )

ZCatalog Search Interface Broken (help?)
by Gary Perez 01 Aug '01

01 Aug '01

Hi, all. First, the versions: Linux, Zope 2.3.0, python 1.5.2 A while back, I set up a couple of Catalog-aware ZClasses that auto-update to a Catalog in Zope's root folder. In that same folder, I added the standard "Z Search Interface". Somemtime within the last couple of months, the search interface stopped working; searching on any of the indexed properties of either ZClass returns no results whatsoever. Here are the things I checked in various combinations, multiple times: - Create new ZClass(es): they still auto-update in the Catalog, search fails - Update the Catalog: looks good, search fails - Verify the Indexes of the Catalog, redo "Find Objects": works fine, search fails - Trash original "Search_Form" and "Search_Report" DTML Methods, add new from management interface: use Zope defaults, search fails During the last month or so, I removed one property from one of the ZClasses, and added a different one... neither of which were ever (nor will ever be) indexed by the Catalog or searched for via the interface. Has anyone run into a similar problem (and, hopefully found a solution)? Thanks in advance for your zen & guidance. -Gary

Re: Is there a "Virtual Folder" Product??

Hope this helps, Shai.
