by Benoit DOMINIAK 13 Jul '01

13 Jul '01

Hi everybody, I made a Zclass with a multiple selection property "connection" and I want to create checkboxes wich must be checked if the value of the checkbox is one of the value of "connection". Here is my code (with a little help from my friend Laurie ;-) : <dtml-in "article_connection"> <input type=checkbox name=connection value="<dtml-var sequence-item>" <dtml-call expr="REQUEST.set('mylistitem',_['sequence-item'])"> <dtml-in connection> <dtml-if expr="_['sequence-item'] == mylistitem"> checked </dtml-if>> </dtml-in> <dtml-var sequence-item><br> </dtml-in> It sounded good BUT : Error Type: InError Error Value: Strings are not allowed as input to the in tag. Can somebody help me ?? _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.

Re: [Zope-dev] Curiously Zope Hanging
by Gilles Lavaux 13 Jul '01

Hello, I dont' understand one point: - the gdchart cause one request to hang, good. But this should not froze the zserver, usually there are several threads running. As I understand, the zserver should froze when you have sended N requests which get stuck in the gdchat lib. N being the number of threads configured in Z2.py. Was it like this?? build a query string out of a dictionary (REQUEST.form)
by Grégoire Weber 13 Jul '01

13 Jul '01

Hi all, does somebody know if there is a method/function built in Zope converting a dictionary to a query string? I'd like to access it in a DTML method or Python Script. I just tried to program a small Python Script, but methods out of urlib can not be used :-( The purpose is to append the actual query string to a link. But I like to replace parts of the query! I'd like to build a link the following way (DTML snippet): <dtml-let qs="buildQueryString(REQUEST.form, replace={'foo':'bar'})"> <a href="dtml-absolute_url;>?<dtml-qs>">foobar</a> </dtml-let> So a form value of e.g. 'foo=xxx' would be replaced by 'foo=bar'. I saw discussions about this topic in the list, but no answers with usable solutions. Did I miss it? I don't like to make a Product to support this! Ok, if I need I'll would have to :-( Greg _____________________________________ Grégoire Weber mailto:gregoire.weber@switzerland.org

Final application distribution policies
by Ausum 13 Jul '01

13 Jul '01

How do you do when you finish an application that will run on your clients' server, and you don't want them to modify the source code, due your need to reduce future failure risks, not imputable to you or your code? I know that with respect to Zope's license, binary distribuitons are allowed, so how would you protect/close a finished application? What would your primary concerns be and what security policies would you use? Thanks in advance, Ausum

A Message from Digital Creations
by Hadar Pedhazur 13 Jul '01

13 Jul '01

Those of you who have been in the Zope community for a while, know that I was an active lurker on all of the lists. For those of you who have been around since the beginning, you may remember that I have even posted a thing or two. Thanks to the phenomenal growth of the community and the traffic, your posts so overwhelmed me, that I eventually had to back off to only subscribing to the "Announce" lists. That is unfortunate, because I truly enjoyed being more active with the community. There have been a number of posts on ZopeZen (and perhaps elsewhere), speculating on the move we made yesterday to close two remote offices. I have no issue with anyone's desire to speculate, and with others' desire to publicly debate the possibilities. This is one of the realities of being an open company, with a wonderful, wide-spread community. It seems prudent however to at least hear our perspective once. It is my intention not to respond to any replies to this post, since I intend to be complete in my statement, and have all too long a history of being dragged into unproductive Usenet flame wars to fall for that again (at least not here :-). Digital Creations closed two small offices yesterday (Wednesday, July 11th, 2001). The two main drivers for making such a difficult decision were: 1) Current Economic Conditions 2) Geographical Challenges with regard to Management The closures had _nothing_ to do with any shift in strategy away from Open Source. There were no layoffs in the engineering group in Fredericksburg, where the core Zope engineers are. There has been speculation that PythonLabs is "on the move again". If this were something we wanted, they'd literally be "on the move" already. They are not! Supporting 100% of the development of Python by one company is a financial challenge indeed. If we didn't consider it a priority, it would have been simple to cut them loose. We did not. Nothing should be read into the above paragraph to say that any part of Digital Creations is a "Sacred Cow", never to be examined and considered for a change. However, it is crucial that everyone understand that this change does not materially effect Zope, Python, or the community. Please understand that it is my opinion that there is no value in my debating the above in public (or private) with anyone. Therefore, please do not consider it an insult if no one from Digital Creations further responds to anything else on this topic.

RE: [Zope] Using Java Applets in Zope

As simple as this ;-) > > I am aware of that - but I don't have a HTML file ... I mean. > The "html" page that uses the applet is served by Zope - and therefor > I cannot just place the applet in the same dir as the html file. You should be able to. OK, it's not a directory on disk - it's a directory in the ZODB. But you should be able to simply create a "File" object in the right place in the ZODB and upload your .jar into that file. An alternative approach would depend on the way you're using Apache. If you have a virtual host for your Zope site, and let's say you're using FastCGI to communicate between Apache and Zope, then you should be able to tell Apache _not_ to do so for URLs containing, for example "/applets/", and to instead serve them direct from some directory in your filesystem (as you would with standalone Apache). Then you'd just put your .jar(s) in that directory. This is a common strategy for, eg, serving images. Let me know if you want to know more detail. :-) But this is perhaps overcomplicated, simply uploading the .jar into a "File" object in the ZODB should work. -Andy -- Andy Gimblett - Programmer - Frontier Internet Services Limited Tel: 029 20 820 044 Fax: 029 20 820 035 http://www.frontier.net.uk/ Statements made are at all times subject to Frontier's Terms and Conditions of Business, which are available upon request.

RE: [Zope] can not update script trough ftp
by Andy Gimblett 13 Jul '01

13 Jul '01

> Doing Zope developpment I am using Homesite. > However I can not update scripts I changed in Homesite. (creates an error) One thing you need to be aware of is that your script must parse properly before you can save it to the ZODB over ftp (same as in the Zope Management Interface, in fact). So for instance, if it's a python script, your indentation must be good, parentheses must be balanced, etc. Or for a DTML method you must ensure you close your tags, no <dtml-in> without a corresponding </dtml-in>, etc. Hope this helps, Andy -- Andy Gimblett - Programmer - Frontier Internet Services Limited Tel: 029 20 820 044 Fax: 029 20 820 035 http://www.frontier.net.uk/ Statements made are at all times subject to Frontier's Terms and Conditions of Business, which are available upon request.
