I am a straggler returning to Zope after years away from it. I come from a time when to install a product into one's Zope one simply untarred it into one's Products folder and restarted. Now I am looking at easy_install, buildout, and the new mania for "eggs." Imagine my discomfiture. But never mind all that. I now have a running instance of Zope 2.12.10 installed in NetBSD 5.1. I want to install CMF into it, which used to be one's first product chore (almost) since plone depended on it and I was heading for a plone install, (and later on ran Silva for a couple of years.) But I am here tonight to say, I am stumped. How do get CMFCore into my zope instance "the right way?" Can someone lay out the steps for me? My python is: /usr/pkg/bin/python2.6 My Zope is at: /usr/local/src/Zope2-2.12.10 My instance is at: /usr/local/Zopeish I have banged around with easy_install, which writes things into my NetBSD /usr/pkg hierarchy, of which I very much disapprove. Buildout seems always to want to build the original gazillion (not complaining!) Zope packages every time I ry to use it. So...glad to be back. Need help. Will write if I get work. Wish you were here. nb. The running Zope instance is "live" on the net, so if one needs to examine my ZMI I can provide URL and login. easy_install Zope glitch on Debian aqueeze

Testing an install of Zope on an up-to-date Debian squeeze install, I get this below. Migrating a legacy Zope2 app to use buildout.

Hello, Currently, we have a Portal that was built starting in 2004 before buildout was available, so our development method has been to export and import from the Zope2 WebUI for deployment. That's been a real pain and since we've automated the rest of our infrastructure with Chef we'd like to be able to do that with Zope. So my question is does anyone have pointers for migrating an app that mostly lives in the ZODB to a build-out style architecture that we could control with Chef? I see tutorials on starting a new Zope 2 app from scratch with buildout but nothing on migrating an older one to build out. For example, how would we create objects like MySQLUserFolders etc from buildout? Thank you in advance. -J

Deploying Zope2 w/ Chef or Puppet

Does anyone have experience deploying Zope 2 services with Chef (or Puppet)? My main question is around how you're deploying an app inside ZODB in an automated fashion? I've looked at the Zenoss cookbook but it relies on Zenoss's CLI utilities that provide an interface for ZODB. -J

Securly storing variables without session in zope

Hi, I want to store values in variables to access form another page(a.k.a State management). Now I cannot use sessions since I have multiple Zope instances & if one fails the user need to be redirected to another Zope instance and one session is valid only for one Zope instance. Now my remaining options are 1)submit a Hidden input tag using POST method 2)Passing through URL with GET method 3)Using cookies 4)Using Database(which i think is 'making simple things complex'.) I am not even considering the first 2 methods and I think using cookies is not secure. So is there a commercial or open source module that can securely(encryption etc) do cookie Management. if not I will have to use database. Please inform me,if I am missing something. Hi, I'm using clock-server in zope.conf for running scripts periodically. The problem that I have, it uses the hour of starting of zope ... and I want it uses the hour of local server (it runs under Windows). If I restart zope, it will have initial hour again ... and I want the it runs the scripts using windows time and not hour of zope restarting. Is it possible? Or I will have to use schedule task of Windows :-? Thanks beforehand. Cheers...

2.13 upgrade problems

I'm getting the error below when trying to boot up a zope 2.13.7 using a Data.fs I took from a zope 2.8.12 instance. Having Products.ZSQLMethods-2.13.3 installed or not installed doesn't appear to be relevant. The fortunate thing, in this instance, is that the SQLMethods in that instance are not important to me so I'd be happy to delete them if I could. However, I tried with ./bin/zopectl debug >>> del app.www['id_of_a_zsql_method'] but that raises the same TypeError. zope 2.11.4 + zmysqlda

Hi, I'm trying configure zope 2.11.4 + zmysqlda under Windows, for connecting it to a mysql database. I've done the next: 1) With zope stopped, I've downloaded zmysqlda, the last version 2.0.8, and I copy it to ""C:\Zope\2.11.4\Zope\lib\ python\Products". It's a dir named "ZMySQLDA". 2) It needs for woking mysql-python, so I've downloaded the last version 1.2.2, as windows binary, of " http://sourceforge.net/projects/mysql-python/files/mysql-python/1.2.2/", the file named MySQL-python-1.2.2.win32-py2.4.exe. It needs a python registered in the windows registry, and the python of zope is not registered in the installation, so I've added a manual entry in the registry: HKLM\Software\python\pythoncore\2.4\InstallPath, here I put a entry as reg_sz type with the value: "C:\Zope\2.11.4\Python\" It works well ... For testing it, I go the zope python shell and I put: import _mysql, it doesn't show error ... 3) I start zope service, but when I go to the dropdown "Add" in zope root folder, I don't have Z Mysql ...
