I think there are many examples already there, it's just sometimes hard to find them (and to be sure these examples are "done right"). Perhaps we need something like the open directory project (dmoz.org) for some elements of zope documentation. OTOH, perhaps we already have an effort like this with the ZDP. Only - my impression is it doesn't seem to work very well, perhaps it's too ambitious. One thing which I have missed often lately was a more fine grained categorization of the howtos on zope.org similar to that for the products. I just joined zope.org so I'm not clear about whats technically possible with such an account, but if there's need I would look into starting some smallish project that makes it possible for the community to do that on ourselves. But I admit, I think such functionality would better fit as a core component of zope.org, but that would mean work for DC. Also the possibility to comment/rate on products and howtows would be nice, as would be a fulltext search on all howtos. cheers, oliver

How to remove zope.pcgi from URL (in IIS)?
by Satheesh Babu 10 Jun '01

10 Jun '01

Hello, I'm trying to run Zope behind IIS, in PCGI mode. It works reasonably except that I can never login to management interface. (I can do so by using ZServer directly). However, my current problem is that Zope sites have an URL like http://mysite.com/cgi-bin/zope.pcgi/blahblah Is there a way in IIS to make it look like http://mysite.com/blahblah or even http://mysite.com/biggerblah/blahblah ? So far I was using Apache where this is easy with ProxyPass. Now, (at least for some time) I'm stuck with IIS. I went through the solution where you use a 404.asp page that does some sort of proxying. Any other solutions? We've a big static site served by IIS and some ASP. For the moment, I must use the same server machine for Zope too. And most corporate firewalls block ports other than 80. That is why I'm trying to front end Zope with IIS. Many thanks in advance V. Hm, out of interest, is there a way to be sure to get atomicity for the above algorithm? Otherwise there is always a small timespan in which an object with the same name could have been created - after the above check, but before you create it. Wouldn't it be simpler (in typical zope cases) to just try to create the objects in the same folder and just wrap the id generation and object creation in a try/except clause? And additionally - instead of using hashes - just to use a timestamp? cheers, oliver

Re: [Zope-dev] Advanced REQUEST inside Python Class Problem

BTW, the same seems to be true > with properties inside a parent object. For some reason, if I call > __getattr__, the entire "global namespace" (REQUEST and Aquisition) does > not work correctly anymore. > Has anyone a clue for me? Hi Stephan, <dtml-var ObjectInstance> does some zope-specific argument passing. This magic isn't available if you do <dtml-var "ObjectInstance()"> (notice the brackets, the way you did it would just cause to render something like <ObjectInstance at #2424234> and wouldn't call the object). If you do the above you have to explicitly pass the arguments, i.e. REQUEST and _. Take a look at dieter maurers excellent writings at http://www.dieter.handshake.de/pyprojects/zope/book/chap3.html for instance for a concise explanation what kind of magic happens with dtml-var. cheers, olivver

Hello, I am looking for a bug tracking product for Zope that also can contain feature requests. Everybody should be able to enter bugs and/or feature requests. Does suck a product exists ? Unique IDs
by Daniel Fairs 10 Jun '01

10 Jun '01

Hi, What's the best way to generate a secure unique ID in Zope? I've tried generating a random integer then md5'ing it, but trying to do an md5.new() causes Zope to prompt for authentication. I'm running this as a user who's an out-of-the-box Manager - what other permission is needed? Or is there a better way of doing it? Cheers, Dan _________________________________________________________________ Daniel Fairs | daniel.fairs(a)spiderplant.net | www.spiderplant.net

gadfly question
by Robert Rottermann 10 Jun '01

10 Jun '01

Hello there this fine sunday morning, here in Switzerland its pissing rain you would not dare to go outside without scuba gear. So I fiddle with gadfly. Which brings me to my question: Is there a way to access gadfly without the user interface. I would like to create and fill tables from an external script. Thanks Robert

Now there are also the fileformats changed from DOS to Unix and the permissions set. I missed that this night - sorry to the one who did already download the file today. Regards, Frank
