Hi All, I have received numerous emails from people willing to review the manuscript and I really appreciate the enthusiastic response. BTW, it was pointed out that I misspelled Michel's name--my apologies Michel--it is Pelletier--I believe I've spelled it wrong so often the habit has become difficult to break! Have a great week everyone! And thanks again! Ann Ann Quinn Acquisitions Editor New Riders Publishing--VOICES THAT MATTER 810-385-1678 201 W. 103rd Street, Indianapolis, IN 46038

zshell query
by Jean Jordaan 11 Jun '01

11 Jun '01

Hi Jerome Just now I've been using Zshell (for which, many many thanks) to copy up a bunch of properties from a parent to a contained object. Unfortunately, the properties were generated by the dtml Calendar tag, and they contain slashes, eg: '2001/06/08'. This doesn't work with addprop: addprop 2001/06/08/string ProjectCalendar Why not just make the seperator a space, and make the 1st parameter the Property name, the 2nd type, and the rest the object IDs? addprop 2001/06/08 string ProjectCalendar Regards, jean

I tried Evan's example with VHM - but it isn't working
by Gitte Wange 11 Jun '01

Hello, Yes it's me with the Virtual Host Monster :-) Now I have tried the example that Evan throw at me - but if you take a look at www.mmmanager.org you can see that it isn't working. I did as follows: 1) Went to my apache conf and added the following: NameVirtualHost 212.242.53.118 <VirtualHost 212.242.53.118> ServerName www.mmmanager.org ServerAdmin webmaster(a)mmmanager.org DocumentRoot /home/httpd/html ErrorLog logs/www.mmmanager.org_error_log CustomLog logs/www.mmmanager.org_access_log common RewriteEngine On RewriteLog "logs/www.mmmanager.org_rewrite_log RewriteLogLevel 1 RewriteRule /zopefuncs - [L] RewriteRule ^/(.*) http://localhost:8080/VirtualHostBase/http/www.mmmanager.org:80/mmmanager.o… [P,L] (The above 2 lines are 1 line in my config file). </VirtualHost> I went to my ZMI and added a VHM in the root folder. I restarted apache. And now - nothing happens ... The page should only show something like "Test" or something ... Gitte

Looking for someone to complete a market review
by Ann.Quinn＠newriders.com 11 Jun '01

11 Jun '01

Hi All: By way of introduction, my name is Ann Quinn and I'm an acquisitions editor at New Riders Publishing in Indianapolis. New Riders is about to release a book titled "The Zope Book" by Amos Latteier and Michel Pellatierand I'm in search of individuals with Zope knowledge/expertise to complete a market review of the manuscript. Several people suggested I contact your list to find someone. In a Market Review we are looking for the kind of reaction you would have were you pulling the book from the shelf at your favorite bookseller to consider it for purchase. We ask that you review the TOC closely, as well as a few chapters that you find particularly interesting and let us know if the book, as titled, meets your expectations--in other words does your review of the TOC suggest that everything you would expect to see covered is? Does a close review of a few chapters suggest it is technically accurate? Finally, would you buy it? I have a questionnaire to simplify the process for you and in exchange for your efforts I'm able to offer you a complimentary copy of this book as well as a couple others from our list (your choice). I would need your completed questionnaire back by Friday, June 15, and should you like the book, it is possible we would ask to quote you inside the front cover. If you would be interested in completing such a review, please let me know right away and I will get the manuscript to you by tomorrow. How to remove 8080 from url
by Brown Fox 11 Jun '01

11 Jun '01

Hello, i run apache as a front end for Zope. One directory, www.foo.com/dir1/ is run by Zope, all the others by Apache. I use proxypass: ProxyPass /dir1/ http://www.foo.com:8080/dir1 ProxyPassReverse /dir1/ http:/www.foo.com:8080/dir1 The problem i have is quite simple: urls inside dir1 have the port 8080. Is there a way to remove it? Thanks, Bruno ______________________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Re: [Zope] Viewing a version of a website?

IIRC, zope uses "resident" cookies for versions (i.e. not tied to the session). That way both of the above problems should be non existent, because you always stay in the version when looking at that site, be it in the mgm. interface or on the website itself (you just can't use different domain names, because cookies are tied to them) You have to explicitly *leave* a version instead of explicitly entering it. I guess you should just try and see if it works the way I described. cheers, oliver

RE: [Zope] Sharing Database connections and/or methods between Zo pes?
by Schmidt, Allen J. 11 Jun '01

Thanks Doug. We had looked at this a while ago for some other things but had not really implemented it. Do you have to create and use only Python scripts to make it work? If I have existing ZSQL and DTML methods, can I access them and the data returned by them directly? -----Original Message----- From: Doug Hellmann [mailto:doughellmann@bigfoot.com] Sent: Sunday, June 10, 2001 11:49 AM To: Schmidt, Allen J.; zope(a)zope.org Subject: Re: [Zope] Sharing Database connections and/or methods between Zo pes? Allen, If you're still trying to share that database among multiple Zope servers, you should check out the XMLRPCProxy product (available on Zope.org at http://www.zope.org/Members/dshaw/XMLRPCProxy) It hooks two Zope servers together in a way that lets you call methods of an object that lives on a remote server as though the object was local. You could set up one server to host the database, and share it by passing your calls through the proxy. adding an stx tage ?
by Philippe Jadin 11 Jun '01

11 Jun '01

Hello, Does anyone thinks it could be usefull to add something like <dtml-stx> tag? This tag would tell zope that all the enclosed text is strucured text. A bit fancier : <dtml-stx render="html"> , <dtml-stx render="docbook"> ,... Would this be hard to implement? Philippe Jadin www.123piano.com
