IIS and Zope with pcgi
by Eric M. Winslow 04 Jun '01

04 Jun '01

Greetings I'm trying to get Zope 2.3.2 to work through IIS (on NT 4.0), but with no luck. I've followed all the instructions found at Zope.org, but still get this error message when trying to link to http://myserver/cgi-bin/zope.pcgi "Temporarily Unavailable The resource you requested is temporarily unavailable - please try again later. missing publisher "D:\WebSite\z2.py"" I've tried this with the publisher set to D:\WebSite\pcgi\pcgi_publisher.py in zope.pcgi with the same effect. One thing that might provide a clue is that when starting Zope with start.bat it does show an error(200) ZServer cannot write PID file This message, about the PID file, does not appear when I start Zope without trying to get pcgi to work. ZServer still responds on port 8080, but I can't access it through pcgi. Does anybody have any clues? Thanks in advance. Eric M. Re: [Zope] Problems with Zope and SQL methods
by Federico Di Gregorio 04 Jun '01

Hi, some people have solved the problem you have simply switching to psycopg. the psycopg type-system, apart from being fully customizable, treat the oid type the correct way, returning an integer. on the other side you don't get automatic management of lob (that popy does) but with 7.1 and unlimited row size less and less people use lobs anymore. (and, imho, there is no way to access lobs trasparently without getting into the oid problem in postgres.) anyway, you'll find psycopg at http://initd.org/Software/psycopg/ ciao, federico ---------- Forwarded Message ---------- Subject: [Zope] Problems with Zope and SQL methods Date: Sun, 3 Jun 2001 15:00:48 +0100 From: "Neil McIntosh" <nmcintosh(a)sentec.co.uk> To: <zope(a)zope.org> Hello all, I have recently upgraded and moved a zope server to 2.3.2. This has proved a difficult task as we are using it to access an intranet database running on Postgresql back end. Whenever a query is run where an oid is returned it hangs the ZServer and core dumps. eg select * from people OR select p.oid, p.name from people p This can be avoided by setting the type as follows. select p.oid::int, p.name from people p However the following will still cause a core dump select p.oid::int, p.* from people p. I have noticed that others have been having similar problems but not seen any solutions on this list. -- Federico Di Gregorio MIXAD LIVE Chief of Research & Technology fog(a)mixadlive.com Debian GNU/Linux Developer & Italian Press Contact fog(a)debian.org Best friends are often failed lovers. -- Me

OS Error 24: Too many files open
by Astheimer, David (GXS) 04 Jun '01

Folks, Config: Zope 2.3.2 / Solaris 2.6 After 23 days of adding and removing files, we've bumped into a file descriptor table problem on our Solaris 2.6 platform. The situation was reported in a standard Zope error web response with the following contents: Error Type: OSError Error Value: [Errno 24] Too many open files: '/var/tmp/(a)12939.7266' Unfortunately, I was unable to "lsof" the crippled Zope instance. However, I have looked at the restarted instance and found twelve long-standing open files in the /var directory. Since file descriptors are a scarce resource in Solaris 2.6, I've jumped the ulimit value up to 256 and Zope is off and running again. Are long-standing temporary files a typical Zope signature? Did I miss a discussion of this topic? Regards, Dave

Inside the standard_html_footer method I put the following - works great: <dtml-var ctslogo> CTS </body></html> I tried the following simple modification and it didn't work as I'd expected: <dtml-var "ctslogo.tag(border=5, align=left)"> CTS </body></html> Something simple, I guess. Sure, I know where some (opensourced, either GPL or LGPL'd) Java based hyperbolic tree code lies, but only if you can first tell us how you'd do it using Zope server-side, mainly as a front-end to ZNavigator. best, -tony -- A.J. Large file transfers
by Sherman Lambert (State Public Defenders Office) 04 Jun '01

04 Jun '01

All, We desire to use our website (Zope) to gather large files from our users. These files can be rather large (10-70mb). From what I have read It would probably not be a good thing to import these files into the Zope database. So does anybody have any other ideas of how to move these files onto our server? Sherman
