I'm pretty new to python, and am having a bit of difficulty with the AccessRule code Alan sugggested. I need to be able to map not only domains (bar.com) but virtual domains (foo.bar.com) to locations in Zope. This AccessRule works quite well for the former, but appears to ignore the prefix of the latter (foo). Here's what I've tried so far: I changed this bit of code: hostname="_.string.split(_.string.lower(_.string.split(HTTP_HOST, ':')[0]),'.')[-2:]" domainname="hostname[0] + '.' + hostname[1]" vhmcode="VHosts.gethostfolder(_.None, _, host=domainname)" To this: hostname="_.string.split(_.string.lower(_.string.split(HTTP_HOST, ':')[0]),'.')[-3:]" domainname="hostname[1] + '.' + hostname[2]" domainname2="hostname[0] + '.' + hostname[1] + '.' + hostname[2]" vhmcode="VHosts.gethostfolder(_.None, _, host=domainname)" How do I tell AccessRule to use one method (gethostfolder) for those requests that are in bar.com format, and another method for those requests that are in foo.bar.com format? Also, I'm really not sure if the changes I've made above are going to screw anything up. Any help will be greatly appreciated, and (hopefully) returned at a later time. Thanks. Hi Gilles, Unfortunately, I can't offer any advice--I'm having the same problem. Tell me if I'm generalizing the problem correctly with this question: How do you reference an object -other- than the one that currently has "context"? In my case, I'm trying to build a navigation tree that -always- starts with the root folder, even when I'm two or three levels deep... I tried expressing the root folder as the oldest object in the PARENTS list, but my script doesn't appear to perceive it as an object... Cheers, Harrison

Client Side Form Field Validation - How to ?

Hi, the subject says it (almost) all. Taken for granted that one should validate input "also" on the server, everybody (even me) knows many reasons (no post, faster and more user-friendly messsages, ...) for doing something on the client. The first thing that comes to (my) mind is Java (o JavaScript ?). Or would be possible to write some Python (Jython) ? Anyhting already available ? Anything "declarative" (like usign regexp) ? Possible: Saving and re-issuing the REQUEST?

Hi all, I have a question regarding Zope's REQUEST. I'm creating a main site that includes a drop-down menu generated by SQL data. On the same page - right above the drop-down menu - there's supposed to be a "Create new drop-down entry"-link which opens a small window via javascript. In this window the user can enter a new entry and insert it into the SQL Database. Additionally I would like a "REFRESH" button in this javascript window which would refresh the main site with the sql-generated drop-down menu to show the changes made in the sql-drop-down. This refreshing should be done with the original request which was used to call the main site at the beginning. Is this possible? Via javascript I can access the "main-site" via "top.". But I don't know how to the following: MAIN SITE is called with a REQUEST -> When "Create new drop-down entry" is clicked, SAVE REQUEST of MAIN SITE, PASS it to the javascript window -> If REFRESH-button is pushed in javascript window, PASS REQUEST back to MAIN SITE and REFRESH the main site along with the original request. Hi, I's not possible to expose my problem with a simple phrase. So I'll write down an example: I got a "main" DTML method that contains: -- DTML method "main" -- ... <dtml-var "getobject(somearg)"> ... --------------------------- "getobject" is a python script that finds a Zope object (DTML method or document) depending on "somearg". -- Python script "getobject" -- # find object depending on "somearg" ... return anobject(context) ----------------------------- OKAY, it runs but I want the object uses the acquisition path of the Folder that contains the "main" script. I need that the returned object uses the acquisition path of the "main" DMLT object. When used like this, if the returned object uses a reference to something that's in the "main" object's namespace, I got an error. Any clue ? TIA --Gilles

I removed the simpleitem.item and the stuff mostly worked, but I could not see my image in the view tab of my image tab, as it returned a wrong path to the Image. hi there, on the survey on digicool i added some ideas to make the first step into zope easier. i'd like to hear your ideas about that and if any of that is already acomplished somewhere. * a roundtrip visual-RAD-database form/reports environment (visual to source and back) (better than MS-Access and probably with import of forms/reports form theKompany-REKALL and MS Access or other forms/reports designers :-) * out of the box multi language and database support * a closed zope installation option. means zope does not use local python or so. i had heaps of trouble with different versions of python, python-database modules and db-connector products (i rather have two pythons on disc than troubles with zope after updating my suse distro) still not solved after 3 months :-(. actually this stopped development of a product on zope. * faster implementation of patches (there is one problem with dtml-in orphans trouble that got a patch about 6 months ago and is still not solved in new zope versions) * a setup process, where the newbee-user can select what products should be pre installed. Rich, Thanks a million for the positive comments. The site uses CSS in fact. It has problems on various browsers but I now have it working very stably and I'm happy with that. Perhaps I can capitalize on your comment and ask what people do for interbrowser CSSing. At the moment I am building a pre-render logic method that sets a browserlevel ID that changes the CSS depending on the browser type, but the incompatibilites are vast and not easily segregated. How does one make a few CSSs for all browsers? Or is the answer to NOT use CSS? anyone?
