Documentation for web-designers
by Markus Mohr 27 May '01

Hi! I'm looking for an introduction to Zope for web-designers. I'm having a bunch of people with lots of knowledge about html, javascript,... and such, but know nil about zope , dtml or python. Is there a documentation out there that I can give to them for a good start into zope? thanks a lot marksu

Starting ZOPE when you don't have access to the machine
by Norman Khine 27 May '01

Hello, I have a virtual server, ie sub-hosting with a virtual sub host, and have configured zope 2.3.2b2 with python 2.0 on freebsd 4.2 I read in a previous post "somewhere" ;^) that if you start zope on a secure shell with ./start & and then close this connection the zope server will stop running. Which is what is happening, if I start the zope server via the shell and live the shell open the server can run forever, unless I restart it, but as soon as I close the shell connection the zope server shuts as well. My question therefore is -- How do I start the ZServer if one does not have access to the actual machine? Re: dtml-Variablen in <dtml-in> loops?
by Philipp Robbel 27 May '01

Hello again, Allright :-) I have cached the results of a sql-Method via <dtml-let DATA=sqlListProjects>. GroupID ProjectID Project 1 1 "Gurr" 1 2 "Muh" 2 3 "Ih-Ah" 3 4 "Mähh" 3 5 "WauWau" A second sqlMethod (sqlCount) returns: Count | 2 | ---- | 1 | ---- | 2 | ... The two sql-Methods are related: Count shoes, how many Projects belong to one GroupID. Now imagine that I want to print out the projects in the following way: GroupID 1: Gurr, Muh GroupID 2: Ih-Ah GroupID 3: Mäh, WauWau To do that I have an outer iteration over sqlCount's results: In this case it would iterate 3 times. Within each iteration there's another iteration - and this 2nd one depends on the current row's Count (2 times in the 1st outer iteration, 1 time in the 2nd iteration etc.). To print out the projects within the inner iteration I use the following technique: <dtml-in "sqlCount(_.None,_)"> //outer iteration! <dtml-if sequence-start> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('TEMP',1)"> </dtml-if sequence-start> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('TEMP2', (TEMP+_.getitem('Count'))-1)"> <dtml-in DATA start=TEMP end=TEMP2> //inner iteration //Print ProjectIDs here </dtml-in> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('TEMP', TEMP+(_.getitem('Count')))"> </dtml-in> It may take some time to understand the code but it actually works as it should. I simply would prefer a cleaner solution where I would avoid the creation of different variables via REQUEST.set (which are then used in <dtml-in DATA start=VARIABLE) but simply do the calculation within the "start=" and "end=" Was that still a bad description of my problem? Thanks again, Philipp Robbel

cache settings
by katrin 27 May '01

Hi everyone, can someone tell me what the permission 'Change cache settings' is for? I found that it's defined in the module Cache.py but I'm not sure what it is used for. Hello, > [...] > <dtml-in "DATA[start:end]"> or whatever. > [...] yes, such a syntax should _theoretically_ do the proper thing, but I always get a "Error Value: sequence index must be integer" when trying to do the [start:end] stuff within the <dtml-in> Tag. Any Ideas how I could either a) use "DATA[start: x + y]" in Zope (where x and y are dtml-Variables!) b) do <dtml-in DATA start=1 end= x + y (where x and y are dtml-Variables!) Thanks again, Philipp

Hallo, sorry, I am using MS Outlook "Web Access" running on my company's server and I cannot find any option how to send messages in plain text! Sorry for that. > what exactly do you want to do? > May be start and size can help you? Basically I have an outer <dtml-in> and another nested one: <dtml-in ...> .... <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('TEMP',1)"> .... <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('TEMP2', (TEMP+_.getitem('Count'))-1)"> <dtml-in DATA start=TEMP end=TEMP2> ... </dtml-in> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('TEMP', TEMP+(_.getitem('Count')))"> </dtml-let> You can see from the code that I have to work with REQUEST.set to get around the problem that I cannot type: <dtml-in DATA start=TEMP end="TEMP + _.getitem('Count')-1"> or something. Can you think of a way to use (python) calculations in the "end=" of <dtml-in>? Thanks again, Philipp Robbel

Logging In
by Daniel Fairs 27 May '01

27 May '01

Hi, How does one log someone into Zope without using the HTTP authentication? Do I have to use a different type of User Folder? Essentially, I'd like to have a login/password box in the top corner of the screen available all the time so the user can log in when they want. Any recommendations? Many thanks, Dan _________________________________________________________________ Daniel Fairs | daniel.fairs(a)spiderplant.net | www.spiderplant.net

dtml-Variablen in <dtml-in> loops?
by Philipp Robbel 27 May '01

27 May '01

Hello, I have a question regarding the use of dtml-Variables in the "start=" and "end=" sections of an <dtml-in..> loop. I have to do a calculation and I would like it to be in the "end=" section of a <dtml-in> loop. I can't get the following code to work: <dtml-in someFunction start=1 end=&dtml-Count;-&dtml-Value;> or: <dtml-in someFunction start=1 end="_.getitem('Count') -_.getitem('Value')"> My current workaround is to set a variable <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('TEMP',_.getitem('Count') -_.getitem('Value'))"> and use that Variable TEMP in my <dtml-in..>: <dtml-in someFunction start=1 end=TEMP> And this finally works. But is there a better solution? Can I do Variable-Additions/Subtractions within the "end=" Section of the <dtml-in..> Tag? Thank you very much, Philipp Robbel

Zope (ZServer) in parallel with Apache
by Chris Ryland 27 May '01

27 May '01

Is it easy enough to run Zope (ZServer, as I understand) directly on port 80 (without FCGI or PCGI through Apache), with Apache also running directly on, say port 81, and redirect all Apache-related calls to //www.mysite.com:81/... from the Zope site? Is this as straightforward as it seems? Have others done this? -- Cheers! Chris Ryland Em Software, Inc. www.emsoftware.com

If STUPID_LOG_FILE is working, Zope will write its startup messages to it, independently of Xron. So, from what you said, I guess you don't have it working yet. You can't do much debugging without either STUPID_LOG_FILE or running in terminal debug mode. I'd suggest you get the log working first. If you can't get it working with a STUPID_LOG_FILE environment entry, try the Frozen Logger product. What version of Zope? What OS? > >To send email, your Xron Scheduled Method needs permission to use Mailhost. > >An Xron Scheduled Method by default has the permissions of "Anonymous > User". > >You may have to give the method a proxy role that has permissions to use > >Mailhost. > > I know the mail works, because when I view or trigger my Xron method, it > sends out the mailing list. That's different from the Dispatcher environment which has the permissions of Anonymous User. -- Loren
