Newbie question: http-cache, caching elements
by Fernando Fuente 26 May '01

26 May '01

hi, does anyone know how to cache objects like gifs by a http-cache? my problem is that i have a navigation (constructed via tables) that is set up and changes dynamically every time a link is hit. this table includes a small picture. i think with the standard http-cache i can only cache "finished" html sites. therefore the picture is loaded every time i click on links that have not been clicked on before. i would like to cache this special element explicetly. can it be done? thanks a lot, fernando

Newbie question: wysiwyg-like editors
by Fernando Fuente 26 May '01

hi all, does anyone know good wysiwyg-like editors that can be integrated into zope-sites. am thinking of providing an easy user interface for unexperienced redacteurs who should be able to create simple web-sites in zope, like they used to do with common editors.... cheers, fernando

(like <dtml-if ../spanish_default> do... ). There are several Zope products for internationalization/localization: Localizer, ZBabel, vary tag, etc. I think this is what you are searching for and its less expensive to use them than to code everything by yourself. You can get Localizer from http://sourceforge.net/projects/lleu If you nevertheless don't want to use an external Product: To check the existance of an object in the current folder whose name is stored in the string objName use: <dtml-if "_.getitem(objName)"> To check other folders you could either use getitem and the dtml-with tag or the following: <dtml-if "_.hasattr(folderObj,objName)"> Bye, Eric

There are two types of cache mangers in Zope: The 'Accelerated HTTP Cache Manager' and the 'RAM Cache Manager': The first one sets special HTTP headers to help proxies (e.g. web browser or squid) to cache your pages, images, etc. properly. This is the one you should use to cache your picture. The RAM Cache Manager caches finally rendered objects/pages in your computer memory to speed up presentation at cost of memory usage. Bye, Eric

RE: [Zope] index.html problem

well, the reason i wanted to use index.html is for log files to process it properly. but thanks to web*r (i'm not advertising cause i don't even know them) i was able to produce the webstats we needed though i had a lot of trial and error going. zope produces images as *folders* in log files that it includes that in the stats. but i was able to find a way to omit this. thanks all.
