ZSearch Results Calling URL?
by Leigh Ann Hildebrand 25 May '01

25 May '01

I'm modifying the standard ZSearch results and having problems calling object URLS using DTML. I'm doing a search of documents. The standard search results include <dtml-var title> in the table. I'd like that title to be a link to the document itself. However, various methods I've tried end up returning the URL as the Results page itself, not the document page: <td><a href="<dtml-var absolute_url>"><dtml-var title></a></td> ...does it, as does plain <dtml-var URL>, etc. How do I specify "URL of the thing that you're giving me the title of" in this situation? Thanks! [ANN] ZShell 1.0pre2
by Jerome Alet 25 May '01

25 May '01

Hi, I'm pleased to announce the availability of ZShell 1.0pre2. ZShell is an external Zope method which allows you to manipulate the ZODB using standard unix shell's commands from within Zope's Management Interface in your web browser. ZShell is licensed under the GNU General Public Licence, with some clarifications of my own concerning it's use with Zope. You can download it from: http://cortex.unice.fr/~jerome/zshell/ Every time I want to go into "feature freeze" mode, then I add new funny commands ! New features are: ================= * The su command: - allow people to execute ZShell commands as another user. If the user isn't a Manager then the correct user's password is needed. - Doesn't allow multiple commands, and su state is not preserved from one launch to the other: You have to do multiple su for that. * The export command: - can export many objects at a time. - can't export to local machine because of a bug in Zope 2.3.2 and my lazyness to get around it. * The nipltd command (not a joke): - search phrases in NIP Ltd Zope's mailing list archive. * The shell wildcards expansion mechanism is now thread safe, thanks to Toby Dickenson. I'm still waiting for feedback from people who use ZShell with virtual hosting, either successfully or not. Since we are at making SourceForge projects, is there somebody seriously interested in having a CVS access to ZShell's sources ? What other important commands do people need in ZShell ? (except for permissions listing and setting, which I already know) Hoping you'll find it useful. Jerome Alet - alet(a)unice.fr

However the dump or even ZShell is not the problem, this was just a bad example. Say I edit some DTML Method from scratch with emacs (or any other tool which don't know anything about Zope), now I want to put it into the ZODB, but not using the zope's management interface, for example using ZShell's wget command or another yet to be released tool (or maybe FTP I don't know) Then during the upload, Zope can't decide automatically what the object meta type will be, and will make a guess which is bad in 50% of the cases: either it's a DTML Method, or it's a DTML Document, and both will be detected with a text/html mime type. talking about information redundancy, please explain why a Python Script contains it's meta type in a comment at its top ! It has no meaning to Zope, because you can't upload and use other types of Python source inside Zope (you don't upload products or external methods), and it has no meaning to Python or any text editor out there. That's why I think my suggestion is just as bad as this Python Script comment: Why don't you do it in DTML objects too ? (to push it further: uploading a structured text document, the mime type will be recognized as text/plain anyway, and the meta type will be File, I mean when not using the ZMI) > Then you could modify wget to make use of this comment when importing. Again, it's a five minutes job to modify ZShell to do that, but I wanted a more general solution in order for everybody to be able to use it with non Zope-aware software. Hoping this clarifies what i want. bye, Jerome Alet

Please copy the zope mailing list on your questions so others can benefit from the exchange. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Christopher Paulicka" <christopher_paulicka(a)hp.com> > I downloaded this nice utility, and made a script that sends e-mail > notifications for a Wiki web. But you should always keep a log file, so you can check what Xron is doing while you're sleeping. > Also, any ideas what else I could do to get my notification to send on > schedule? Look inside the Schedule catalog. It's index_html method lists the entries in the schedule. Is yours there? If not, go and edit the method. You don't have to change it, if it's all set correctly, just pretend you made a change and click the Update button (or whatever it's called). That action will reschedule the method. Then look in the Schedule again to be sure it's there. Once you got STUPID_LOG working, what shows in the log? If the Dispatcher tried to fire your method, there will be an entry in the log. Any errors will also be noted. To send email, your Xron Scheduled Method needs permission to use Mailhost. An Xron Scheduled Method by default has the permissions of "Anonymous User". You may have to give the method a proxy role that has permissions to use Mailhost. -- HTH -- Loren

[FEATURE REQUEST] comment at the top of DTML Methods and Documents
by Jerome Alet 25 May '01

25 May '01

Hi, I think that putting an HTML comment at the top of DTML Methods and DTML Documents just like the one at the top of Python Scripts would be VERY useful. (at the bottom it would be useful too, I really don't care) This comment would just give the object meta-type and the preferred object id. This would allow for ZShell, and possibly other products or external software, to dump (ZShell's dump command) and restore objects (ZShell's wget command) transparently: Say I dump a DTML Method, it's saved as pure DTML source, because I just write the document_src() output to an external file. Now I reload it into the ZODB using the wget command, which in fact uses the mime type to determine what object type to create: There's a problem because it's impossible to differentiate a DTML Method from a DTML Document, because both are detected with the same mime type: text/html So I think such a comment would help when importing objects into the ZODB in unusual ways (not from the ZMI). I've not yet tried using webdav or ftp with Zope, but I suppose this would help there too. Any comments ? If you don't agree, please could you explain why ? Thanks in advance. Jerome Alet

RE: [Zope] Tree tag cookie questions
by Dunigan, Craig 25 May '01

I realize that Zope doesn't save the tree state, but that the browser does, sorry I wasn't clearer. The problem is that we have many pages generating what appears to the user to be the same tree, which of course it isn't. I'm using Yihaw, which gives me a 'Yihaw Folder' class that has an index_html containing this code (I root the tree at BASE3 because that's where all the Yihaw folders start living): <dtml-tree expr="REQUEST.resolve_url(BASE3)" branches_expr="objectValues('Yihaw Folder')" nowrap="1" sort="title"> <a href="&dtml-absolute_url;"> <img src="/Images/FolderIcon.gif" border="0"> <b><dtml-var title_or_id></b> </a> </dtml-tree> A user hits /folder1, generates a tree, modifies the tree state and gets a cookie. Then he hits one of the links above, goes to /folder1/folder2, generates a new tree, but with the state saved in the cookie. If he modifies the tree state yet again, does he get a new cookie, obliterating the previous tree state, or does the same cookie get modified, saying "for page /folder1/index_html the tree state is 'x', for page /folder1/folder2/index_html the tree state is 'y'?" My users seem to expect that they can return to a page and have whatever tree state they "saved" on that page reappear, and reading what you just wrote, I don't think that's true, is it? Obviously, it isn't happening, but it _appears_ (key concept!) that it is happening at some times and not others, and I'm trying to find out if it _can't_ happen, or if I did something wrong. RE: [Zope] Using Zope for Document Collaboration
by Sin Hang Kin 24 May '01

One observation is that web based editing is not user-friend. "Time-out" will be very inconvient to users. WEBDAV might provide a better solution. It will be convient to have a MS-WORD object which can expose section, page, paragraph, etc as its sub-object. It does not solve the problem of versioning and edit conflict yet. Pulling cvs into the scene is very suitable, but you have the train the users to work with it. In a lower service level, you may consider looking documents and record the current owner. When a protected document is requested by another user, his request will be refused and he can check the system to see who is working on it. You may also put a unlock machenism periodically say for a lock can only hold for one week and the system will unlock the document and sent the lock owner a email about it. Rgs. Kent Sin
