Zope and Dreamweaver WebDAV

Hi, I can access a Zope site through Dreamweaver WebDAV, but opening Zope documents presents a problem as they do not have a conventional file extension - .html, .js etc. I can vaguely remember a work around for this, but I had no use for it at the time. Anybody using Dreamweaver WebDAV and Zope at the moment have any ideas and any further tips? I have the Dreamweaver WebDAV patch downloaded from the Macromedia website. Thanks in advance David Legg

ZClass error!

Hi, I am having problems with ZClass. I`m creating a ZClass with base class OFS:File, but when I add an object of my new type it doesn`t work like it should. I can add a new object like an usual file, but when I want to view it, just show the path of the file, not data of the file. Is it a bug? Or am I doing something wrong? Categorizing products.

Hi Folks I'm new to Zope so please excuse me if I get this wrong. There seems to be an ever increasing variety of products for Zope. Looking at things from a commercial perspective it would be nice to be able to seperate the 'quality' ready-to-use products from those who are evolving or are half-complete. I just wanted to suggest a simple system of certifying products as 'Customer Ready Products' ie those that are in such a state (ie containing good help system, examples etc) that they could be sold as of the shelf products. ** Just to clarify: I said 'in such a state', rather than suggesting tehy should be sold :-) ** I know that Open Source is seen often as the opposite of the commercial world but I think there is great value in taking the best of the commercial world and applying it to Open Source. Such a simple certification could be carried out by either volunteers or DC. It could be charged for if neccesary. The benefits would be that a third party could claim to use 'Certified' products when building an application. Anyway I'd like to here any thoughts on this as I, like many would like to see Zope gain more and more recognition as a serious solution for web development. Getting the day from a Timestamp / gvibda

Hi! I have a query returning a timestamp column from my interbase 6 database using the Going Virtual database adapter. I want to extract the values of the day/month/year ... from the variable. I tried this <dtml-var date_column fmt="%d"> for the day, but it doesn't work, probably because the variable's type is not the usual python DateTime. Similarly, this <dtml-var "_.DateTime(date_column).day()"> doesn't work either. <dtml-var date_column> renders a nice string representation, so I don't really understand why the above will not work, but that's certainly my lack of python concept. Ok, now I found out that date_column is actually of a type called Timestamp, which is defined in some way in the gvibda sources. That class has a method tuple, def tuple(self): return (self.year, self.month, self.day, self.hour, self.minute, self.second) which seems to return everything I need. But how do I call that thing? In fact, every time I write something like <dtml-var "date_column.tuple()"> or <dtml-var "_.date_column.tuple()"> I get some Unauthorized exception for no apparent reason. Wow... DTML and Python aren't talking

I am trying to add functionality to the LibraryDocument product. I want to call a method I have added in the main Document.py file. If I use something like <a class="title" href="&dtml-getURL;/my_new_method" target="_blank" ><dtml-var name="title" null="(No Title)"></a> This sends the URL of a file to the method, which the method does nothing with. Right now it just says "hello". It displays the return string of the method in a new page as expected. However, if I try to call it using something like <dtml-var expr="my_new_method()"> then I just get an error. Error Type: NameError Error Value: my_new_method For anyone who knows the DocumentLibrary product, the DTML file is document_list_item and the python file is Document.py. The class I have added the method to is called Document. Regards, Simon B.

Zope & the Zoo - newbie problems...

On page 67 of 'the Zope book' (the user guide on the zope documentation site) it discusses some really basic setup's for this sample site they call the Zope Zoo. Pretty simple - create a project directory (zopezoo), set up three subfolders under it, and create a method (called navigation ) that iterates over the directories, listing them out - here's the method: <ul> <dtml-in expr="objectValues('Folder')"> <li><a href="&dtml-absolute_url;"><dtml-var title_or_id></a><br></li> </dtml-in> </ul> I entered this in, and view the method, and it works fine. But then, when viewing the standard_html_header that calls the method I get the standard error 'KeyError' Here's the text of the standard_html_header: <head><title><dtml-var title></title></head> <body> <dtml-var navigation> Anything strike you as wrong with this? I'm using the 2.3.1 version on windows (for now), and Mozilla. Has anyone heard of a test site that can be imported to check whether or not the install is working properly ? signed: rich

The events based programming model for Zope ?

Hi guys, i dont know if this is the right forum for raising this kind of ideas - forgive me if its not. I was thinking about an event based model for the application servers like zope which would make life easier for the programmers. Just like the db triggers, mouse events etc....it would be great if a web server would include triggers internally like - page closed, page opened, page validation, object start, object destroy, and so on.... just thinking if anyone else has done anything like this - is this even a valid model for the web model. I feel this would greatly simplify programming because if the programmers had to just trap the events and do the relevant coding for that then there could truly be a Rapid Web development Tools and Rapid prototyping etc which would also bring greater speed to the development cycle itself overall on the web. Any ideas ? What do you guys say ? Can Zope be extended this way by implementing a layer within zope that raises these triggers and letting the programmers trap these events ? Any plans ? Well just shooting off some ideas - pardon me if it sounds stupid. regards bobby

Zope logs

I'm trying to gleen the reason for a sudden disappearance of my Zope process, the first Zope crash I've encountered. I've not run Zope with any special options, haven't specified log files and not altered the debugging level, just the vanilla start script (zope 2.3.0). The only log info I could find was in zope/etc/Z2.log. It only contained connection-related entries, no errors. I also noticed some peculiar last entries. Here's one: 196.7.146.145: - - [24/May/2001:12:57:18 +0200] "GET /TrispenDB/version_control/Bugs/Interface/Manage/showBug?prID=423 HTTP/1.1" 200 5359 "http://oskar:8080/TrispenDB/version_control/Bugs/Interface/Browse" "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.01; Windows NT; TUCOWS)" This request is not in accord with my zope directory structure. The request should have referred to TrispenDB/Bugs/Interface/Manage/show....blah...blah... since Bugs and version_control are on the same level. I suppose it is possible to fabricate scenarios under which this improper request could have ocurred...but why did Zope die just right after? How/where can I look for more information?

Hi David... very simple- in the directory where Dreamweaver is installed, under the "configuration" subdirectory, there's a file called "extensions.txt". Open this file in your favorite text editor and add "DTML" to the list of recognized extensions. if I remember correctly, there's actually a lot of good information to be gleaned by reading thru some of the text files in the Dreamweaver config. directory. have fun! Hello, I have the same thing. AFAIK the log file is updated when the request is completed, so if one request make your server die, you will probably have no trace in the log. The log file is also not flushed on every write.
