simple workflow system

Hi everyone, I'm working on a project and I'd like to implement a simple workflow system. There would be "reviewers," "contributors," and anonymous visitors would be able to submit content too. Should I: 1. Have the item cataloged after it is reviewed and approved. (I believe this is how Zope.org functions.) 2. Catalog everything, but have a property called "published" that only the reviewers can set and use Zope's security mechanism to prevent viewing unpublished content for anonymous visitors. 3. Use the CMF. 4. Something else My concern about the CMF is that it seems to be an all-or-nothing package at this point. I really don't need the membership part of it because my site is 99.99% read-only. It's a small group of people creating the content. I gotta My biggest beef with the numbers is that the poll is missing the most obvious category. Pre-built Lego style interoperable modules that you can just install and then have them automagically work together on a site. If the module is there it shows up in the site structure, if it isn't, there is no trace of it. Oh yes ... and a smart way to syndicate stuff. As far as I can see soon we will all have our own personal portal for various reasons. (Big ego's being one). At the same time I see all the major portals crosslinking excessively to each other. All off them having their own articles and discussions around one "source" article. It ought to be easy to be a syndicator of both articles and comments, so that articles and comments from several sites will be synchronized automagically. And while we are at it we should make it easy for all Zope products to do this. Calendars would also be easily sync'able then. Well anyway ... I am currently planning/building both of the above, I'll get back when the code is sound. Regards Max M

thread safety

Hi, In the ZShell external method I've written, I've got some code which does the shell globbing for wildcards using the glob.glob module after having redirected some methods from the os module to my own, e.g. : --- CUT --- oldlistdir = os.listdir os.listdir = mylistdir ... glob.glob(...) ... os.listdir = oldlistdir ... --- CUT --- So my question is: is this code thread safe, wrt to other Zope threads accessing the os module methods while they are redirected to mine ? I don't want other Zope threads to access my own methods, just the current one. If it is not thread safe, then how can I do it another way ? Thanks in advance. Jerome Alet - alet(a)unice.fr

Sir, I have zope running at my linux server. I have a NT workstation.I am accessing zope from linux server as http://servername/manage. ok. I am having one folder raja in the zope. Now, I want to run the zope like this http://localhost:8080/manage which is having only my folder and control panel. got it? Problem using SQL Example from the Zope Book

Hi there, I try to build the examples given in chapter 10 When I try to access a ZSql method passing it a parameter like this http://localhost:8080/employee_by_id/emp_id/42 where the parameter name is emp_id and the value 42 I get a "not found" traceback I have to use http://localhost:8080/employee_by_id/manage_test?ClientID=12 why does it not work like the Book sugests? thanks for your time Robert

At the web you can only make some guesses how long a user stays on a page. You never will get feedback if the user simply goes elsewhere or closes the browser. For pay per view (in your case for time) you may - use a specialized application to play the video (not user friendly :) - force the user to do something to keep the video stream alive (also not user friendly :) First do a decision about which way you ensure pay-per-time then think about the implementation. An option would be of course pay-per-view without time limitation. Regards, Frank

Hello, I need to find out how long time a user spend on a page in my zope site. Guess you can do that by a session/cookie, but I don't know anything about it. Anyone who has tried to do something like this ? It's for a cinema that plays movies (pay-per-view), so I need to count the minutes from the movie begins to the user exits. Any good ideas ? Date fields in new ZClasses

I'm using Zope 2.3.2 and created a ZClass. I wanted to add a (date) field as a standard property for the class. However, unlike the string properties, I had to include an actual date in the data field. It gave me an error when I tried to leave it blank. Does anyone know why you MUST include a non-null date in a date field of a ZClass? Cheers, Ron
