Look, I see a huge difference between a "get rich quick selling laxatives" message floating into my inbox opposed to a vendor that is targeting me based upon my perceived business and technical interest. I have no problem with a vendor occasionally sending me info as long as they aren't telling me "if you don't buy our product, you will be better off working from your basement selling laxatives." Come on people - choose your battles here! I make business and technical decisions regarding who my employer chooses to do business with - and believe it or not, I don't mind being informed in that regard, even if that means, for example, that I get a message every week from a Sybase rep of the week peddling stuff I am frankly not interested in (actually, I prefer that to getting three national forests worth of junk mail and postcards from them). Hit delete if you don't want it - I promise that you won't end up a freelance laxative salesperson if you read the message... GoLive, WebDAV and ZPT

I would like to connect to ZPT with GoLive using WebDAV Is there any documentation on Zope's WebDAV server ? Does WebDAV need to be configured after Zope is installed ? Does WebDAV listen on a certain port ? What settings need to be entered into GoLive for Zope's WebDAV server? GoLive's WebDAV Browser displays the message "can't connect to server" Any help would be appreciated David

Dear Mr Brian Methvin Nice, to hear about you. Not so nice, to hear about you this way, when you present yourself the first time. The idea of the survey is a good one. However the tone and way of your message shows clearly, that you have no idea about the nature of the relationship between the people in a open source community and the organization (or company) which drives the developement of that Open Source product. And, I guess, that you are maybe not interested in it. Either you like to continue the way you are used to doing business, then maybe you should better change Zope back to closed source (at least the part Digital Creation is working on) and drop community support, because - as you said - it is soo expensive and time intensive to support this Open Source community (they don't give back and help DC anyway, aren't they ? and, DC could earn a lot more without this drag, couldn't they ?). Or you try to make yourself familiar with the world of Open Source first: different business modells, a worldwide developer community, quality before simple short-timed cash-cow-thinking and so on. Just read the mailing lists for some time, maybe ? It is impressing and irritating, that such a monster organization like IBM shows more knowledge, flexibility and tact than the freshman CEO of a small company which is profoundly based in the Open Source Community for years now already (and which owes a lot of its popularity and maybe also success to that). Calling SQL from my product

I have a product and I want to have SQL methods there. I let the administrator select the SQL connection upon installation, then...? How am I supposed to have and call SQL methods? Something like foo = SQLFile(...) would do :-) Thanks.

If this is so bad, good indication you need a worthy cause in your life. Let me suggest the fight against prohibition, the amerikan gulag. Surveys are valid, proven method of gathering information. In a growing open source community it is an obvious tool. DateTime and mxDateTime confusion

I've got some big confusion about DateTime objects on zope: in short: - zope has a built-in object called DateTime available in 'script (python)' - python has a 3rd party module mxDateTime which is called the same: "DateTime" question is: why did zope developers choose an existing name for that ?! a more detailed description: I was trying PsycopgDA (postgresql database adaptor) which converts sql timestamp fields to DateTime objects and I wanted the floating point number in UTC of it, so I called it's method timeTime() , but that method didn't exist. I wanted to be sure the object I was using was really a DateTime object so I've tried type(myObject) and it did return "DateTime" (note: type is an external method which returns the python's function type()). I created a DateTime object doing x = DateTime() and when I call x.timeTime() it worked, so I've tried type(x) and it also return "DateTime". Both objects were "DateTime" objects, but one was a zope built-in object called DateTime and the other was the python's 3rd party module mxDateTime also called "DateTime" Using the same object type name on different object types is not what I call a very intuitive idea. ZODB FS FS21 ERROR

Every time I try to pack the database I get this error 2001-05-18T10:45:52 ERROR(200) ZODB FS FS21 ERROR: Bad reference to ('\000\000\000\000\000\000\034h', '') The database packs ok, but I am not sure what it means. Thanks Norman

Heh - I did the exact same thing (filled it in, thinking "Cool, they're asking me good stuff"). In retrospect, a post to the mailing lists, and a URL on zope.org would have been more appropriate.
