HELP! Double outputs!
by Paul Zwarts 14 May '01

Oh woe is the day.... I'm totally frazzled by this. I have moved a test zope install to a unix server running another one. Both are configured for separate ports... I have a structure something like this <var logic> <var header> <var orderform> <var footer> (very basic description) What I get is: <var logic> - okay <var header> - okay <var orderform> - okay <var orderform> - not okay <var footer> This application lives on several test machines and none of them have any such problems. What duplicates is also very selective as well... Im not sure where to go for debug info... z2.py started with the -D optioin shows nothing. Apache shows nothing (even though the problematic zope is refferenced directly to ZServer through port 8085) The logging of REQUEST and SESSION reveal nothing. Putting in <dtml-var sequence-key> doesnt show an miscreant <dtml-in> that loops one two many. I am really lost.... Its Zope-232 with PGSQL703, PoPy 2.01 and the latest ZPoPy adapter. Perhaps there is a bug here or someone has expereinced the same thing? I cant be more than vague without writing an essay... But perhaps someone can tell me how to monitor the Zope stack? Thanks very much, Paz

I made a funny experience recently: One of our low load Zope installations went into this hanging state regularly. I had the impression, it happened every day. Then I activated a checker, that checks availability every 5 minutes. The problem went away. Since then, Zope never hung again. Maybe, Zope does not like to be lazy? Dieter

how to know the parent folder
by Arkaitz Bitorika 14 May '01

Hi all, I've got some ZClasses in folderish objets, and I'd like to know how can I get from each object which is the parent folder in which it is stored. I guess this a very simple thing, but I haven't found the way yet ;). Any hint? TIA, arkaitz.

RE: [Zope] ODBC DSN file

Thanks for your response! Yes, I could do that, but I would like to skip this step if possible, cause I will keep receiving data form Excel sheets for a while. What I would like to do is create a web interface to let users put the exel files in a directory on the server, import the data themselves, create some transfer directives, end export the result. So, would it be possible? -----Message d'origine----- De : Tino Wildenhain [mailto:tino@wildenhain.de] Envoyé : lundi 14 mai 2001 11:22 À : Menard.Jean-Francois(a)hydro.qc.ca; zope(a)zope.org Objet : Re: [Zope] ODBC DSN file Hi Jean-Francois, I would import the Excel-Sheets into an RDBMS first and then use this to access your data. RE: [Zope] ZCatalog (2.3.1) won't acquire method from parent fold er?
by sean.upton＠uniontrib.com 14 May '01

14 May '01

A follow-up: After upgrading to 2.3.2, and further investigation, I have found I have a problem, and I have found a workaround. However, what I have discovered is that the problem is not one of acquisition; rather, it is an issue of ZCatalog not cooperating with my DTML methods, residing on disk as part of my Python product. So, in a slightly different light, here is my problem: if I use one of these DTML methods as an index, it has problems evaluating code because it (the Catalog) runs the method, but it will not successfully obtain the namespace of either the object I am trying to catalog / add, or the namespace of the acquisition parent of the newly created - just about to be indexed - object. The implication of this, is that while evaluating the DTML, there is a NameError raised for ANY call to a method within an object of the class you are trying to index; I did not try accessing properties, but I assume that they would suffer the same fate: evaluation of the DTML, being run by the Catalog as an agent, would fail to resolve the namespace of the object for which it is trying to index, and this would mean that any calls to methods/properties of the object from within the DTML would fail with a NameError, raising an exception that breaks any Catalog Aware object attempting to use a DTML method as a text index. My iterateText method resides as a python method BOTH in the class for the object I just added, and the parent folder (a custom class subclassed from OFS.Folder) I am adding the object to. My searchTextWeighted (the method I am indexing) was a DTML method on disk, referenced with searchTextWeighted = Globals.HTMLFile('dtml/searchTextWeighted', globals()) ...I changed this to a python method within the class, and this fixed the problem, but not in the way I necessarily want. What I am hoping to be able to do is create templates that get indexed, so that modifying an existing indexed 'field' does not require directly modifying the class itself, only the DTML methods to which the class refers to. Why won't ZCatalog use the namespace of the object it is attempting to index to run these methods, which belong to the class of those objects? It seems like if it did, there would be no problem doing what I originally set out to do. Is this a bug, or am I going about doing this the wrong way? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. For now, I can live with my workaround... Sean -----Original Message----- From: sean.upton(a)uniontrib.com [mailto:sean.upton@uniontrib.com] Sent: Friday, May 11, 2001 4:44 PM To: zope(a)zope.org Subject: [Zope] ZCatalog (2.3.1) won't acquire method from parent folder? Running Zope 2.3.1; A ZCatalog instance that I have won't acquire a method from the parent folder it resides in; I get a NameError on the method. This is very strange. The method is called from another method whose results are supposed to be indexed. +Zope Root +Classifieds (Container, Subclassed from Folder, contains a method called iterateText(self, text, times)) Catalog (ZCatalog) I have a text index set up for a method called searchTextWeighted, which is a DTML template file on disk within a python product. Inside searchTextWeighted, I have the following DTML: <dtml-var expr="iterateText(getTitleExpanded(), 5)"> iterateText is a method of a python class that is subclassed from ZCatalog.CatalogAware and OFS.Folder.Folder: def iterateText(self, text, times): """Repeats output of text times # of lines for # of times""" result='' times=int(times) for item in range(times): result=result+text+'\n' return result I get a name error for iterateText upon trying to add a catalog-Aware class, when index_objects() is run (I just made this class Catalog-aware). This is weird, since, in terms of namespaces, iterateText is in a folder above the Catalog, and also above the item I am trying to ad, so no matter how you look at it, iterateText should be acquired, and not generate a Name Error. In testing this out, I am able to traverse to iterateText via URL in a browser with no problems. I assume that this is not related to the ZCatalog bug in 2.3.1 where the Catalog won't run a method requiring arguments. The method in the index, searchTextWeighted, passes all the arguments needed by iterateText in the DTML. So I am a bit confused here. diploma about zope - need help -
by Isabelle Neunreither 14 May '01

14 May '01

hi, I've heard a lot about zope and so I decided to write my diploma about it: "Zope and XML: from studie to the prototype". My major problem at the moment is my inexperience with zope. I can program and work with zope, but I never integrated zope in a real project. The first aim of my study is to understand in which way and situation zope could be recommended for integration and use in companies. You would help me by answering different questions about your experience with zope, as well as about your experience with zope and xml. At the following address under "interviews/about zope", you will find a question form about zope. This form is translated in english, french and german. So I think everyone can answer it :-) http://141.100.43.117:8080/u/isabelle/diploma/zopexml/ Thanks a lot. I hope, I will become a lot of answers. Cheers, Isabelle

Summary: Webdav security(hole?)question.
by Antwan Reijnen 14 May '01

14 May '01

Hi All, Chris (suspicious), Tim (FreePM), Joachim (Explorere remembers password), Thanks for contributions on the WebDAV thread. I digged a little into it, and I can now shamefully say that my observations on WebDAV were not completely correct (blush). So here is my summary: Thanks to Chris and Tim, I re-examined the security-policy of my Zopeserver. And was very surprized to see that the access contents information permission was default assigned to role anonymous. I changed this immediately. This put me in the wrong direction: after changing my manager-passwordt, I could still browse through my Zope-site with WebFolder, without being asked for a new password. I understand this now... I changed from manager to anonymous from the perspective of the WebFolder, and anonymous could browse through the system. Because I saw no change in behaviour on the WebFolder side, I thought nothing had changed. But it did: I could'nt write or change files anymore: here the long awaited username/password dialog finally showed up. Phew... sorry about this, I should have examined this more carefully... My preliminary false conclusion was by the way supported by the fact that the first windows2000 site I tried to access via WebDAV was completely open (yes, with write supported), no password required... Chris and Tim: I agree completely with you that the securitypolicy via WebDAV should be the same as via the http methods. Tim: of course, I could not gain access to FreePM ;-) Joachim: thanks to your email I understand why my new Zope installation (2.3.1 -> 2.3.2) did not require new authentication via WebDAV. Thanks Bill :-( So: thank you all very much. I will creep back in my hole, and go shame myself :-) Goodbey! Greetings, Antwan. >Hi All, > >I have a weird security problem with my Zope installation. Some e-mail before: >> WYSIWYG HTML applets to get rid of the textareas for HTML input? >Yes, there is the Johanc's IEMethod Product, that works only for IE5.0 >http://www.zope.org/Members/johanc/IEMethod/IEMethod/ >Ausum Curiously, i downloaded the product and followed the installation instructions below, but at step 4 there was no IEMethod. Is anybody using this product and share some advice? 1 Unpack the TorpedSharedModule.tgz in the Zope Shared Modules directory. E.g. lib/python/Shared/ 2 Unpack the IEMethod-0.0.6.tgz in the Zope root directory. 3 Restart Zope. 4 Create a IEMethod instance. 5 The IEMethod is subclassed from DTML Method so it should act exactly as a DTML Method. 6 The IE Method has a management tab called Editor, besides the ones equal to DTML Methods. Notice that this only works if your using Internet Explorer 5. etc. Met vriendelijke groeten, Hans de Wit Stichting Farmaceutische Kengetallen Postbus 30460 2500 GL DEN HAAG Tel. 070-3737448 Fax 070-3737445
