Q:How do I get a directory...?
by StoonsDesign 23 Apr '01

Is it possible to get a "dir" of the actual files in a specific folder on the server that has zope installed...? Ex: <dtml-in "c:\news\"> should return [[bookmarks.com],[hover-craft.exe],[zope_rulez.yeah]] if the dir c:\news\ contains: bookmarks.com hover-craft.exe zope_rulez.yeah /stoons PS I know Linux is the Zope-ruler, but Pesonally I do not know Linux - yet ;-)

The problem seems to be that many members (like me) are ready to answer questions on an informal ad hoc base but are quite reluctant to post a more elaborate and complete HowTo or FAQ. Dieter

xmlrpclib.Binary() fails with manage_addImage()
by Kyler B. Laird 22 Apr '01

22 Apr '01

When I try something like the example in http://groups.yahoo.com/group/xml-rpc/message/1409 I get Error Type: AttributeError Error Value: seek If I don't use Binary, I'm o.k. unless I use a "special" character. That doesn't last long in a JPEG image. Any suggestions? Thank you. --kyler =============== imagedata = open('/home/gunsmoke/a/laird/public-web/Kyler/images/disk0016/img_0196.jpg').read() image = xmlrpclib.Binary(imagedata) pprint(Zopesvr.test.images.manage_addImage('img_0196', image, 'dogs by stream in Aspen', '', 'image/jpeg'))

debugging security issues
by Godefroid Chapelle 22 Apr '01

22 Apr '01

Hi all, I am blocked by a bad security issue when playing with some ZPatterns objects. I am trying to find a way to go on. I have been reading both Zope security and ZPatterns source code. I have been stepping in code both with python and Pythonwin debuggers and cannot understand why I always get the following error message even when accessing URL as a manager or setting multiple proxy roles : _________ Traceback (innermost last): File E:\BubbleNetTestSite\lib\python\ZPublisher\Publish.py, line 222, in publish_module File E:\BubbleNetTestSite\lib\python\ZPublisher\Publish.py, line 187, in publish File E:\BubbleNetTestSite\lib\python\ZPublisher\Publish.py, line 171, in publish File E:\BubbleNetTestSite\lib\python\ZPublisher\mapply.py, line 160, in mapply (Object: index_html) File E:\BubbleNetTestSite\lib\python\ZPublisher\Publish.py, line 112, in call_object (Object: index_html) File E:\BubbleNetTestSite\lib\python\OFS\DTMLDocument.py, line 189, in __call__ (Object: index_html) File E:\BubbleNetTestSite\lib\python\DocumentTemplate\DT_String.py, line 538, in __call__ (Object: index_html) File E:\BubbleNetTestSite\lib\python\DocumentTemplate\DT_With.py, line 146, in render (Object: defaultRack.getItem('100')) File E:\BubbleNetTestSite\lib\python\OFS\DTMLMethod.py, line 261, in validate (Object: index_html) File E:\BubbleNetTestSite\lib\python\AccessControl\SecurityManager.py, line 144, in validate File E:\BubbleNetTestSite\lib\python\AccessControl\ZopeSecurityPolicy.py, line 168, in validate Unauthorized: id _______ The id above is an original zope object id. I think there is a point that I do not get. I would appreciate any hint on security issues or ways of debugging my problem... -- Godefroid Chapelle BubbleNet sprl rue Victor Horta, 30 1348 Louvain-la-Neuve Belgium Tel 010 457490 Mob 0477 363942 TVA 467 093 008 RC Niv 49849

The second number is the length of the response. In you example, you got 2 404 responses ("Not found") with a response size of 2106 and 2109 bytes. More information in the "Web publishing section" of URL:http://www.dieter.handshake.de/pyprojects/zope/book/chap3.html There, you will also find the RFC number of HTTP 1.1. Dieter

how to import strptime.py to ZOPE WIN installation?
by Georg Rellensmann 22 Apr '01

22 Apr '01

Hi, I want to do some form typechecking on the server side for date input. Strptime() is what I need, but the function is not part of the windows distribution. So I was happy to discover strptime.py from Andy Eskilsson (http://www.fukt.hk-r.se/~flognat) which works nicely from the commandline in PythonWin. But how the hell (sorry) can I get it "into" my Python/ZOPE installation? I´d like to call it from a Python script. Reading lots of list archives and the like didn´t give me a clue yet. Please help! Hope I am not off topic (is this a Python thing?), but others might be interested in strptime.py functionality as well. thanks, -georg-

ZPT and Python/Zope specific methods
by Darin Lee 22 Apr '01

22 Apr '01

Zopatistas, I have been working with TAL, TALES, and METAL over the last few days - and I thought I was kind of "getting it." However, I've hit a small snag. Is there a way via TAL to get to many of the Zope methods I use all the time in DTML? like ZopeTime() or bobobase_modification_time? I have read the 1.0 specifications, but I'm not clear how those methods are mapped to the "path based" way of accessing objects and methods in ZPT. Is there an object (i.e. "root") that let's me access these methods? This all started when I decided to add a last modified field in the footer of my pages with TAL: <p tal:content="here/ZopeTime">Replace this text</p> Some methods work, while others do not. Is there any documentation I can reference which describes specifically what I can call from TAL/TALES/METAL? Overall, I would say ZPT is a *great* thing. If all goes well, this will lift Zope out of the WYSIWYG client integration issues that plague *all* of the other closed source CMS solutions. Zope is, imho, superior to the CMS's I have researched in it's clean object->URL translation alone (you should see some of the unintelligable URL's Vignette produces). Furthermore, I'm not sure how many out there have tried to write Web Applications in TCL or ASP, but Python is a breath of fresh air when it comes to coding. If ZPT delivers on it's presentation layer promise (which I believe it will), then world domination is surely not far behind. ;-) Congrats to the ZPT team for this breakthrough techology! Thanks, Darin Lee

Hehe, Me 2. I think the problem is that many answers could be found *today* with the investment of 5 minutes searching on zope.org or at the searchable mailing lists at NIP (thanks NIP!). My impression is that the "fast path" is mostly taken by zope beginners, and not people who prefer to lure mailing lists for some time to get an impression about the knowledge level which is covered by that list. It also would be sometimes impossible to find out the right list to post if the topics would be too fine grained (trivial example "Problems calling ZSQL-methods with parameters") - i.e. if I am a newbie I'm probably not able to figure out what problem domain I am really chewing on. And perhaps I would be resistant to think that something that held me up for three days is really a *newbie* problem ;->. My personal feeling is that if there is a decision for a split it should be zope(a)zope.org The general list for Zope users - operation of and content management with Zope, including basic dtml programming and so forth. zope-dev(a)zope.org A separate list for Zope developers, focusing more advanced aspects of zope programming like ZClasses and pythons scripts and external methods (...). zope-core-dev(a)zope.org Focusing on Zope's innards and continuing evolution. The second and third name may be changed, but I feel that being a beginner with zope in many cases also means not being able to know where to ask, thus heading under the zope(a)zope.org umbrella. Perhaps the help which can be found online today should be more exposed, for instance by linking to the searchable archives (even) more prominently and explicitly stating that they are a very useful resource (they answer 9 out of 10 questions I normally have and I mostly consult them before looking for howtos). That way the more advanced zopistas wouldn't be to bothered to churn out answers to FAQs, and people like me could also get their piece of the philanthropy cake. cheers, oliver
