Actually, ASP uses server-side JavaScript and VBScript. That is probably where he is refering to. IMO, zope needs more clean up before it gets more features. Because those are CLIENT-side, not server side. Because many of us have browsers that do not use that atrocity known as vbscript, and javascript tends to be rather difficult/time consuming to write in a cross-platform way. We have enough to work on already without adding that stuff. SV: [Zope] PHP as a scripting language for Zope
by Geir Bækholt 27 Mar '01

27 Mar '01

I have to agree that adding internal support for more languages beside perl and python would dilute the common effort that brings us forward. What would be really useful , though , would be for someone knowledgeable to write a howto on how to connect to php from external methods. That way one could use the business logic from PHP-scripts (one might have something lying around) and leverage them through the Zope framework. As PHP is runnable from commandline, i cannot see why this should not be possible.. -- Geir Bækholt geirh(a)funcom.com >Well I am making this really complex mediastreaming system, and thought >that Zope could help me with my problems about user privileges. indirect calling of methods with parameters
by Bernd Worsch 27 Mar '01

27 Mar '01

Sorry, but this is above me head! I'm trying to call a method that needs parameters indirectly. Well, after reading some docs i believe to somehow understand how indirect calling of variables works. What's more, everything is fine when no parameters are involved: <dtml-let method="SomeMethod"> <dtml-var method> </dtml-let> <dtml-let method="'SomeMethod'"> <dtml-var "_[methode]"> </dtml-let> Both Variants call SomeMethod, which is fine! On the other hand i'm totally lost when parameters are involved. I for example tried to build my commandcall as a string. But using _[] won't work as it naturally won't call the method but look for an object with a kind of unusal name, which doesn't exist. It seems like i need some kind of eval construct. Any suggestions? Or for short: How do i change the following code to call method instead of giving me an KeyError on the object named ParaMethod('lalala') ? <dtml-let method="'ParaMethod(\'lalala\')'"> <dtml-var "_[method]"> </dtml-let> Thanks Bernd -- -----Bernd Worsch-----------bernd.worsch(a)frontsite.de--------

Some ideas about the future of Zope products...
by Philippe Jadin 27 Mar '01

27 Mar '01

Hello, Being new to zope, I hope this is relevant. I just putted together an article about the way I see future Zope products. It is available at : http://123piano.com/en/webdesign/zope-products/default.htm A little extract : "What seems to be a pain when creating a product is the fact that you need to provide your own User Interface. Why do I need to create a specific UI to let the user update the title of my product? And if I want to have my user edit the title trough ftp? Webdav? Do I have to take care of this as well? We should easily agree that UI is not a part of the product, but a part of Zope." If you have any comments to share, let's discuss ! I hope this idea has not been dicussed 100 times before. Re: [Zope] What are the Zope time formats without leading zeros?
by Chris Beaumont 27 Mar '01

Mike, Thank you. Yes, it most certainly is worth reading, and I appreciate your help. Is this really what everyone does? I was planning on trying to do something like this if I couldn't find a format that displays the dates or hours sans leading zeros the way I need them. So how do people do this? I use dates and times a lot, in all sorts of ways, and this represents a lot of extra typing.. So, my first thought is to attempt to build a method for time-string processing. Has anyone done this already? I'm relatively new to Zope and given my relative inexperience and fairly substantial workload I'd hate to reinvent the wheel if it wasn't necessary... Thank you, Chris >I have been reading and asking alot..so maybe I can help on this one. I am >new to python and Zope so I hope this is worth reading. RE: [Zope] SQL results
by Farrell, Troy 27 Mar '01

Alejandro, If I remember correctly, ZSQL Methods only see variables from REQUEST and those explicitly passed to the method. With that in mind, try this: <dtml-in name="select_sql_sentence"> <dtml-call expr="insert_sql_sentence(var1 = var1, var2 = var 2, . . .)"> </dtml-in> And let us know. Troy -----Original Message----- From: Alejandro Pancani [mailto:apancani@topgroup.com.ar] Sent: Tuesday, March 27, 2001 9:44 AM To: zope(a)zope.org Subject: [Zope] SQL results Is there any way to use the results of a query in other SQL sentence (like INSERT) without to have to redefine the variables in the REQUEST. I tried this but didn´t work <dtml-in select_sql_sentence> <dtml-call insert_sql_sentence> </dtml-in> The only way that I found was that: <dtml-in select_sql_sentence> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('result_of_select', result_of_select)"> <dtml-call insert_sql_sentence> </dtml-in> Of course the SELECT sentence returns only 1 match Alejandro Pancani apancani(a)topgroup.com.ar _______________________________________________ Zope maillist - Zope(a)zope.org http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope ** No cross posts or HTML encoding! ** (Related lists - http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-announce http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-dev )

Hello, I need to make a page that allow to insert/delete/update archives from zope. For that I will need to have a tree of the objects(like directories and subdirectories). I want to know if there is any example of that or how can I do it. Thanks. ________________________________________________ Don't E-Mail, ZipMail! http://www.zipmail.com/

Re: [Zope] A typical Zope problem
by M. Adam Kendall 27 Mar '01

This seems odd to me, as I'm am usually in there during the same exact hours. I would imagine this is just a mere coincidence that you saw no activity. Although keep in mind, some of us actually have to do real work during those hours, so reponse times may not be the greatest. To be brutally honest, even most of my activity there appears after work hours (to the tune of 9pm EST or later) Also keep in mind the time zone thing again. Zope is international baby! ;-) Another affect on all this is, that there are quite a few "newbie" users in the channel as well. It may be that the userbase that was hanging around at the time you asked questions simply just couldn't answer. Now, I'm not trying to say that IRC is better than the mailing list or vice versa, I'm just saying, don't let the initial lack of response leave a sour taste in your mouth. The IRC channel is very worthwhile, and quite a few questions are answered. On 27 Mar 2001 12:25:23 -0500, John R. Daily wrote: > > Are you sure you've been in the IRC channel?
