List of DB error
by Daniel Corrêa de Azevedo 27 Mar '01

Where can I find a list of the possible zope message errors types while using a DB connection. I need that because of need to implement all the <dtml-except ERROR_TYPE> for operations with a DB. Thanks, Daniel C. Azevedo.

PostgreSQL, INSERT and new OID
by Jeremy Cowgar 27 Mar '01

27 Mar '01

Hello. I am just learning Zope. I have a few projects that I created using Apache and FastCGI, but Zope has caught my eye. In learning Zope, I came across a stumbling block, and that is how to retrieve the OID that an INSERT query will create when using Postgre. In previous projects, when a new record (let's say a contact) was created, if the INSERT was successful, the user was automatically refreshed to the newly created record. (If not, an error was displayed). I can not figure out how to get the OID that is returned by issuing a INSERT SQL statement. Can anyone help me out with this one? Thanks! Text truncated by Netscape (but not by Explorer)
by Pierre Dricot 27 Mar '01

27 Mar '01

A long text description is stored as ntext(16) in a MSSQL7 database and retrieved trough ODBC (ZODBCDA-3.1.0b2-win32-x86). Zope (Zope-2.3.0-win32-x86) runs on a W2000 server. This long description is displayed correctly by Explorer (V5.0) but truncated by Netscape (V4.5). The source page displayed by each navigator is quite different: Explorer: <font color="#0000FF"> Vous néchapperez pas au Colonel Moutarde ! As you can see, it seems that there is a special caracter exactly where the text is truncated by Netscape: the french word "magazines" is in two words in Explorer ("ma gazines"). Another word ("donne") at the end of the text is also in two words ("d onne"). This special caracter seems to appear every 125th caracter in the text description and is ignored when displayed by explorer. I'am surprised by the fact that Zope seems to have a different behaviour depending on the navigator used, because the content of the generated page is different for each one. Moreover, the same text retrieved when testing the OBDC connection inside Zope doesn't have these special caracters as you can see below: Z ODBC Database Connection at /eCatalog/ZopeCatalogueProduction -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- AUTEUR BIO FR Vous néchapperez pas au Colonel Moutarde ! De MADAME FIGARO à MODES & TRAVAUX, Moutarde enlumine les pages des plus grands magazines. Et en bande dessinée comme en illustration, le Colonel Moutarde donne le meilleur de lui-même ! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SQL Used: select AUTEUR_ID, AUTEUR_BIO_FR from AUTEURS where AUTEUR_ID = 149 Thanks for your help !

Re: [Zope] Setting up a new site in Zope
by Gitte Wange 27 Mar '01

Okay now I have entered two domain names in my DNS. The domains are www.mmmanager.org and dev.mmmanager.org They have the same IP. Now is it possible in Zope to make two different sites (one for each domain) without editing my httpd.conf and set up virtual hosts ? If so, how do I set it up and create the two new sites ? Aquisition..hurts so good
by Mike Webb 27 Mar '01

27 Mar '01

Got a problem and I think it is Aquisition..well the problem lies with me..but my lack of understanding it lies in aquisition! I am trying to display the value of a index_html as if it was called from the absolute_url..but I want its output to be part of a document. I have not figured out how to make this call in DTML; so, I tried to get to the cousin DTMLMethod by looking back through parents then back down through other siblings like so: <dtml-var expr="aq_parent.aq_parent.learnix_984971699.index_html()"> index_html contains: <dtml-var raw_index> With raw_index being a method of the ZClass of the learnix_984971699 object. I get the error: Error Type: KeyError Error Value: raw_index I am guessing that my problem in rendering the index_html has something to do with aquisition by containment like aq_inner, but I do not know what to do about it...can anyone help??!! Also, if anyone can shed some light on what the aq_parent is doing to aquisition that would be great. Thanks, Mike Webb

What are the Zope time formats without leading zeros?
by Chris Beaumont 27 Mar '01

27 Mar '01

Hello, There has to be a simple answer to this question.. I am using both Zope DateTime and strftime formats to display dates and times of various sizes and flavors.. so.. my question is this.. What is the preferred formatting string/method for displaying dates and times sans zeros. for example..as the standard "April 3, 2001" instead of "April 03, 2001" or times with the format (to give another example) "2:00 PM" instead of "02:00 PM" As one of my users put it.. "As a *very* minor point, I think that our web site's habit of listing dates before the 10th of each month with a leading 0 is uncouth; there must be a way to make Zope behave a little more intelligently." Thank you all for your help...This is stumping me. I've tried what seems like at least 50 different ways of displaying times.. I'm sorry to ask such a basic question... Thank you! ZClass inheritance and properties
by John R. Daily 27 Mar '01

27 Mar '01

Using version 2.3.0, and adding ZClasses strictly through the management interface: I defined a "virtual" ZClass with some basic properties and methods that I wanted included in other ZClasses, and inherited from that. The properties were defined in a propertysheet I named "default". In my derived ZClasses, I seem to be inheriting methods, but not properties. I can't programmatically set them, nor can I view them through the management interface. Is there something I'm missing? -John Daily jdaily(a)progeny.com
