No, I run: su -l zope -c 'nohup /usr/local/Zope/start -X -w 8080 &' I'm stumped. Sven, are you running Postgresql? If so, what version? Next time it dies and the process is there, try strace'ing it with "strace -p pid -d" Regards, Phil +----------------------------------+ | Phil Mayers, Network Support | | Centre for Computing Services | | Imperial College | +----------------------------------+ -----Original Message----- From: Chris Withers [mailto:chrisw@nipltd.com] Sent: 28 March 2001 13:48 To: Sven Cc: zope(a)zope.org Subject: Re: [Zope] ZServer dying Sven wrote: > > so i just have to restart zope, and some other times, it freezes but i still > can see the processes (then killal and restart). > > my developpement version does this between 1 and 10 times a day (redhat 7 / > zope 2.3.0 too) Do you run both setups with the -D option? cheers Chris _______________________________________________ Zope maillist - Zope(a)zope.org http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope ** No cross posts or HTML encoding! ** (Related lists - http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-announce http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-dev )

ZServer dying
by Mayers, Philip J 28 Mar '01

I'm having trouble with Zope periodically dying: 1474 /usr/bin/python /usr/local/Zope/z2.py -D -u zope -X -w 8080 1479 \_ /usr/bin/python /usr/local/Zope/z2.py -D -u zope -X -w 8080 1484 \_ /usr/bin/python /usr/local/Zope/z2.py -D -u zope -X -w 8080 1485 \_ [python <defunct>] 1486 \_ /usr/bin/python /usr/local/Zope/z2.py -D -u zope -X -w 80 1487 \_ /usr/bin/python /usr/local/Zope/z2.py -D -u zope -X -w 80 1488 \_ /usr/bin/python /usr/local/Zope/z2.py -D -u zope -X -w 80 The top-level process is doing a wait4() on it's child. Normally, it's child is doing a select() on the 8080 port, any open connections and a FIFO (which it presumably will use to communicate with the children). When the child's top-level child dies, strace shows: [wait(0x137f) = 1479] pid 1479 stopped, [SIGSTOP] I'm presuming that 1484-8 are threads, since I can't strace/ltrace them. I'm stumped - how can I debug this? Is one of the threads dying - what is it likely to be? I've turned on full debugging on the SQL side of things, I'm pretty certain it's not the server-side connection dying Help! (Zope 2.3.0 in RedHat 7.0 SMP kernel - Booting with the UP kernel didn't help) Regards, Phil +----------------------------------+ | Phil Mayers, Network Support | | Centre for Computing Services | | Imperial College | +----------------------------------+

Webdrive/FTP woes
by Chris Withers 28 Mar '01

28 Mar '01

Hi, Dunno whether this is a Webdrive or a Zope FTP Server problem so I though I'd ask here first. I really like Webdrive, but when using it to edit Python Scripts using Zope's FTP server, it has a habit of cutting the script in half and loosing the second half :-( Have any other Webdrive/Zope users experienced this? Did anyone find a solution? cheers, Chris

Counter Rentrancy
by David Kyte 28 Mar '01

Hi, If I have a DTML document for generating and tracking say order numbers, is the code rentrant/Atomic? <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('counter', counter + 1)"> <dtml-call "manage_changeProperties( counter=REQUEST['counter'] )"> <dtml-return counter > What I'm really asking is how many threads run in parallel, and how would multiple threads accessing this code react. Do I need some form of transation or locking? Thanks in anticipation David Kyte

It says a file is missing ... is that a permissions problem ? I have chowned my entire Zope directory to nobody.nobody but the problem is still there ? What should I look for ? ZSQL & LIKE Operator
by Donald Braman 28 Mar '01

28 Mar '01

I'm trying to get Zope to submit a "like" statement to MS Access (please don't ask why I'm using MS Access; it's a temporary situation). Anyway, I can't get a working ZSQL method LIKE and a wildcard. I try: SELECT * FROM Cases WHERE Short_Case_Name LIKE 'Plessy v. Ferguson' works fine; I try: WHERE Short_Case_Name LIKE 'Plessy*' I get no data matching query. I can run the query through MS Access SQL view just fine; not sure why it's not working with ZSQL. Donald Braman donald.braman(a)yale.edu

And indeed, it was supposed to provide uniform navigation both at the start and end of the sequence. It worked nice for us. I posted the original patch to the Collector (ages ago). You may find it also under: URL:http://www.dieter.handshake.de/pyprojects/zope/dt_in.pat I did not yet check the changes as applied in Zope 2.3.1. This will happen mid April. Dieter

We've got Zope and Domino working together in a single system, in a variety of ways. What is the specific problem you are trying to solve?
