- Zope - Zope lists

Chris I believe you want ... (setq make-backup-files nil) in your .emacs file will sort out your backup file problem. My zope directory is still littered with the little '~' versions so worthwhile sharing this here. As for ftp - I seem to recall using passive mode with the xemacs ftp client under windows (well hey - it's still emacs and it's still under windows :-) ) ... (custom-set-variables '(efs-use-passive-mode t)) with a bit of judicious editing you can have an .emacs file that works with both emacs and xemacs. Can't help with the ftp client by the way ... I read a suggestion of using wget from someone on the net but never used and don't know. Ian J Cottee Blue Fountain Systems Ltd

Mike Webb writes: > Is it posible to get a list of all possible roles defined. I would like to > get the list to use in a python script. Are you satisfied with the role listing in Zope's management interface? If so, the answer is yes. You find out how by looking at the source code of the respective page. Dieter

Bothered by batches
by Nolan Darilek 25 Mar '01

25 Mar '01

I've recently begun trying to figure out how batches work, but what appears simple is instead causing massive problems, and I really don't know what's wrong. I have the following snippets of DTML in an index_html: <dtml-unless first> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('first', 0)"> </dtml-unless> <dtml-unless batchsize> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('batchsize', 2)"> </dtml-unless> . . . <dtml-in "jobs.objectValues()" size=batchsize start=first> . . . </dtml-in> Then I have a BatchAdjustForm method which isn't a form anymore due to recent changes, but it looks somewhat like this (note that the text entry field will probably be nuked soon): <table> <tr> <td> <div align="left"> <dtml-if previous-sequence> <a href="<dtml-var URL><dtml-var sequence-query>first=<dtml-var previous-sequence-start-number>&batchsize=<dtml-var batchsize>"><[Previous]</a> <dtml-else> <[Previous] </dtml-if> </td> <td> First:  <input type="text" name="first"> </td> <td> Size:  <select name="batchsize:int"> <option value="5">5</option> <option value="10">10</option> <option value="50">50</option> <option value="100">100</option> </select> </td> <td> <div align="right"> <dtml-if next-sequence> It worked! <dtml-else> [Next]> </dtml-if> </td> </tr> </table> First of all, you'll probably notice that the batchsize is set insanely small. This app is basically a job board, and is meant to iterate through a list of jobs and extract batches. Until recently I had never tested the batch functionality, but yesterday I added 6 jobs to the board and, despite having set the batchsize to 5, all 6 showed. Dropping the batchsize to 4 has the same effect, but 3 or lower works as expected; I'll see 3 items, 2, etc. Maybe I don't understand how size= works? Also, the BatchAdjustForm simply doesn't work. I consulted the batch example in the Zope Book, and borrowed quite a bit from it, but nothing seems to work. As you can probably see, I tried to simplify the 'next' navigation link to print 'It worked!' and avoid using the code I used for the 'previous' link, but this doesn't seem to ever appear, despite the fact that I'm only displaying a few of the 6 jobs currently in my sample database. Any ideas? This isn't a major problem, but it's one of the last which I'm experiencing with this project and it really annoys me that I can't even get a simple batch query to work. :)

Re: [Zope] Modifying Default index_html

> > So what am I missing? Why don't more people use ZClasses? > > -- I think because Zope is still "foreign" in the sense that, while it works like standard html, it really isn't. I'm still having tons of trouble getting away from the procedural aspects of html/php/general programming when dealing with Zope. It has procedural elements, but so much of Zope is Object Oriented...besides, when dealing with the issue here at hand, you would think it would "easy" to make a simple change like this. With standard html, you can. Maybe because html and such isn't an environment, whereas, that's exactly what Zope is. I would expect changing index_html to be the equivalent of moving a piece of paper, rather than moving a chair, or a couch. AW: [Zope] can't install PoPy -->now Zope don't find PoPy

First, Sorry for disturbing you again and thanks AdeL and the others, With the python and postgres-dev installed I got build the PoPy-Module. But where is Zope searching for it? Also copying PoPymodule.so didn't work. It don't seems that the path for the modules in Zope 2.3.0 changed, or? I am working with PoPy-2.0.2 and ZPoPyDA-1.2, is maybe there a known bug? I don't see the mistake, thanks again for help. more and more confused Damir > Hey, > > You need postgresql-dev and python-dev to build PoPy. > Furthermore, if you are using redhat, you may need to change > /usr/lib/postgresql to /usr/lib/pgsql in your Makefile > > Good Luck > > AdeL >

Re: [Zope] Zope based Authentication.
by Mohan Baro 25 Mar '01

Thanks Tony and Dieter for replying. Zope is a great product. ZPatterns and LoginManager are great products too. I use ZPatterns and LoginManager. Thanks to http://www.zope.org/Members/BwanaZulia/zpatterns_install and other links Basic applicatiuon development require a lot of knowledge to setup. This will deter people from switching to zope from other platforms(for instance from PHP to zope). They also have access to free products and plugins from their user community. In order to develop PHP applications newbies just have to learn PHP programming. In Zope we have to learn Zope + Python + DTML + external methods to fully appriciate an application like ZPatterns and LoginManager. In oder to show that Zope means business when come to solid application development, certain thing must be built-in into Zope. One of them is form based login/logout system instead of HTTP authentication. I am new to zope but you have to understand that a lot of people are new to zope (and have a steep learning curve). Hope more people reply. Thank you. Mohan.
