How to pass values from python script back to calling dtml-method ???

When that > python script is through, it has a variable (say, returnValue="return > value"). How can I access this variable in calling dtml method ? > Please help !!!!! If you want to return a single value, just return it and use dtml-var to insert it into your document at one location, or dtml-let to save the value for use in several places. DTML: <dtml-var myscript> PythonScript myscript: return "return value" If you want to return multiple values, then return a namespace object and use dtml-with to make the values available for use. The example below shows the technique I prefer, which is to make all python scripts return a namespace. For example, the following code is taken from a simple shopping basket system. basketSummary displays a one line summary of the basket contents: <dtml-comment> This method returns an HTML segment that displays a summary of the contents of the current shopping basket. </dtml-comment> <dtml-with "logic.basketContents()"> <p class="small">Shopping Basket: <dtml-var numlines> lines, <dtml-var numitems> items, Total Value: <dtml-var totalvalue fmt="$%1.2f"> </p> </dtml-with> The python script basketContents, kept in the logic folder, retrieves the current contents of the basket and looks like this: if not context.REQUEST.has_key('SESSION'): context.Session(REQUEST=context.REQUEST) basket = context.REQUEST.SESSION.get('basket', None) or [] customer = container.customerData() # Return the basket contents. contents = [] totalvalue, items = 0.0, 0 for c, d, u, q, p in basket: contents.append(namespace(code=c, description=d, unitprice=u, quantity=q, price=p)[0]) totalvalue, items = totalvalue + p, items + q shipping = 4.95 total = totalvalue + shipping vars = namespace(contents=contents, totalvalue=totalvalue, shipping=shipping, total=total, numlines=len(contents), numitems=items, customer=customer[0]) return vars Notice that for the summary display we are just interested in the totals. The code that does the full display can get at the individual lines using dtml-in: <dtml-with "logic.basketContents()"> <dtml-in contents> <dtml-var description> <dtml-var unitprice> etc. </dtml-in contents> </dtml-with> Note that the namespace function actually returns a tuple containing the namespace as the first (only) element. This is fine when returning the final result, but for building a list of namespaces you have to remove the extra tuple wrapping, hence the [0] in the append call (and also the customer[0] since customer was the result of another call to namespace). -- Duncan Booth duncan(a)rcp.co.uk

Can I trust the variables?
by Jan-Frode Myklebust 26 Mar '01

Hi, I'm doing a external method that's supposed to zip-up files selected via LocalFS, and I'm wondering if I can trust the special variables set in a request. Can I trust that f.ex. URL/URLn/URLPATHn are from where the external method was called, and not set by the user via http-headers? Have anybody else added support for ziping up selected files with LocalFS? -jf

in DTML I do this... <dtml-in "folder.objectValues('DTML Document')" sort=title reverse> How do I do the same in a python script? Here's a good start. for thing in context.folder.objectValues('DTML Document'): Strange, that this one's never crossed my mind, but never mind about that. Peter

Python Script problem
by Ronald L. Chichester 25 Mar '01

25 Mar '01

Okay, I think there is a context problem here, but I'm not sure. So I turn to the experts... What I'm trying to do is allow users to create folders in some root folder. There are two DTML Methods and one Python script: 1. The first DTML Method is a form to gather certain information from the user. 2. The second DTML Method is an "action" method which accepts the "post" form data from (1.) and where I have some DTML code to assign a unique ID before I call the script. 3. Is a Python script that is called by (2.) and which is supposed to create a Folder, assign some properties to it, and create an index_html DTML method within that new folder. Here is the code for the first DTML method (1. addClientForm)... <dtml-var standard_html_header> <h2 align="center">Add a client.</h2> <form action="addClientAction" method="post"> <table border="0" width="95%" cellspacing="8" align="center"> <tr> <td width="25%" align="right">Name:</td> <td width="75%" align="left"><input type="text" name="client_name" value="" size="40"></td> </td> <tr> <td width="25%" align="right">City/State:</td> <td width="75%" align="left"><input type="text" name="client_location" value="" size="40"></td> </td> <tr> <td width="25%" align="right">Main Telephone:</td> <td width="75%" align="left"><input type="text" name="client_telephone" value="" size="40"></td> </td> <tr> <td width="25%" align="right">Main Facsimile:</td> <td width="75%" align="left"><input type="text" name="client_facsimile" value="" size="40"></td> </td> <tr> <td width="25%" align="right">Main Web Site:</td> <td width="75%" align="left"><input type="text" name="client_web_site" value="" size="40"></td> </td> <tr> <td width="25%" align="right" valign="top">Description and<br>General Comments:</td> <td width="75%" align="left"><textarea cols="40" rows="10" name="comments" wrap="virtual"></textarea></td> </tr> <tr> <td width="25%" align="right"></td> <td width="75%" align="left"><input type="submit" value="submit client name"></td> </td> </table> </form> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> Here is the code for the second DTML method (2. addClientAction)... <dtml-var standard_html_header> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('ts', ZopeTime())"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('id', _.str(_.int(ts)))"> <dtml-call expr="addClient(id=id, client_name=client_name, client_location=client_location, client_telephone=client_telephone, client_facsimile=client_facsimile, client_web_site=client_web_site, comments=comments)"> <p>If you made it this far, something went right.</p> <p><a href="<dtml-var URL1>">Return</a> to the main window</a> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> Here is the python script (3. addClient) """ This code actually creates a folder for the client and a default index_html file linking to the contact/incident code. Zope based Authentication. Why Why Why
by Mohan Baro 25 Mar '01

25 Mar '01

Hi all, Going thru the archives of this mail list, I can't help but notice the following 1) There are many zoper who need to use a login form to authenticate users 2) Most do not like http authentication 3) ZPatterns and LoginManager are good solutions, but are not appropiate for new users (compilation required, usersourse required ... &&&& poor documentation. Why can't Zope's default authenication be form based? (cookie based, ZODB based ...) Why do we have to start with HTTP authentication? (can't logout, hard to manipulate) Why does everybody think ZPatterns/LoginManager is always the answer. (simple problem, Tough solution, overkill) Can somebody post a good form based authenication system without using ZPatterns/LoginManager. Mohan.

by Jlio Dinis Silva 25 Mar '01

Yes I confirm I've seen some problems with commited versions not unlocking modified objects, but I think that was fixed. The problem I still see in versions is that when you in a folder create one object, nobody else working out of the version are able to create objects in that folder because the version has locked the folder. But this are small problems if you use versions with caution they are really one of zope's great features. Does the "var" directory already exists? A colleague reported recently, that a newly installed Zope was lacking a "var" directory (which probably is build by the "python w*_pcgi.py"). Dieter
