Urk. OK - My Zope installation had died, apparently. I started to get the PCGI process dying and those long timeouts I mentioned, so I just rebuilt Zope from scratch and exported/imported the application - it's all super-snappy now <sigh> Sorry for the false alarm - but it did seem to degrade without any external input, and a "Pack" attempt on the database failed with "I/O Error: 5". Hmm... How slow should dtml-var be? (was: RE: [Zope] Problems with *BIG* SQL queries)

As mentioned, I'm doing really big SQL queries which return a HTML report that's about 1Mb. The ZopeTime trick suggested by Alan helps a lot - the time spent really is on the Zope side, and happens even with the most minimal file - just a: <dtml-var "ZopeTime()"> <dtml-in QUERY> <dtml-var column1>,<dtml-var column2>,<dtml-var column3>,<dtml-var column4> </dtml-in> <dtml-var "ZopeTime()"> This takes about 4 minutes *on the server* - file return is quick. *Sigh*. This however: <dtml-var "ZopeTime()"> <dtml-in QUERY> </dtml-in> <dtml-var "ZopeTime()"> Takes about 30 seconds (which is reasonable): HTTP/1.1 200 OK Date: Wed, 21 Mar 2001 14:02:07 GMT Server: Apache/1.3.14 (Unix) (Red-Hat/Linux) X-Powered-By: Zope (www.zope.org) Python (www.python.org) Vary: Authorization Content-Length: 94 Connection: close Content-Type: text/plain 2001/03/21 14:02:07.2783 GMT 2001/03/21 14:02:46.6733 GMT I can only assume it's the namespace lookup in <dtml-var variable> - in fact, my calculations (9575 rows, 4 <dtml-var>s per row) make that 6ms per dtml-var, which isn't unreasonable. I guess I really do just have too much data... PythonScript editing time

I've got a large-ish pythonscript that does some pretty ugly stuff - the application pattern requires it be a single script. Editing it (hitting Change on the TTW interface) takes a long (10sec-ish) time. Is this expected? Zope appears to peg the CPU at the same time... CatalogAware & Catalog.

Hello, I would like to know if it is possible to update "only" the new document instead of update the whole or update only specific type of object. I have tried with CatalogAware (i select CatalogAware as the base-class when I create a new type of Zclass.) but I still cannot keep track new document of that document type. I have to update my catalog manually every time I add the new document. From Zope Book about catagolizing content, it should work out but it didn't. I guess I did something wrong. When I add the new document, how the Catalogaware work? Besides, I wonder if we can set the timer (maybe from the machine or system) for updating catalog automatically? can't install PoPy

on RedHat 7.0 Postgres 7.0.2 in /usr/postgres (from the source .gz) Zope 2.3.0 in /home/zope (from the source .gz) when I run ./configure I get: checking for python... /usr/bin/python checking python version... 1.5 checking python installation prefix... /usr checking python installation exec_prefix... /usr checking definitions in Python library makefile... sed: can't read /usr/lib/python1.5/config/Makefile: No such file or directory done checking for install... /usr/bin/install checking location of python library... $(prefix)/lib/python1.5/site-packages checking location of python shared modules... $(exec_prefix)/lib/python1.5/site-packages checking for PQconnectStart in -lpq... no configure: error: can't build without PostgreSQL libraries ./configure --with-python=/home/zope/bin/python --with-postgres-libraries=/u sr/postgres/lib --with-post gres-includes=/usr/postgres/include and some other combinations without effect. I am a bit confused, because I can't remember a problem on my previous installation on RedHat 6.2. Do I have to build the /usr/lib/python1.5/config/Makefile somehow? why are the PostgreSQL Libraries not found? Any clues? Thanks in advance!

Dear Sir, We are trying to install and configure mysql version .23.32 on Linux Red Hat 7. Usinf the configure option ./configure --prefix=/usr/local --localstatedir=/usr/local/mysql/data --with-unix-socket-path=/usr.local/mysql/tmp/mysql.sock the make and make install. we have tried several variations of the configure options. no error is shown during compilation and installation. On executing mysql from root there is an error sayin Can't connect to local MySql server. through var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock. We have tried with changed socket path in configure option giving the above path. But we do'nt find the sock file in any of the directory. Plese help us to resolve this problem. We have already installed apache and PHP4 in our system with success. Akshaya

Newbie question: Properties

Hello all, I've been reading the zope docs, and done a tutorial or two, but I still don't know what exactly a property is. I'm used the concept of a propery like this: if I have a rock, the rock's properties are weight, color, size, density, etc... I've added properties, but that doesn't exactly explain what they are...
