Hehe, this reminds me of an incident I had with a project. I had Expires: -1d set in the header and when trying to print with netscape it printed a nice html-page saying: This page has expired, please press reload. cheers, oliver

Hello, I'm using Zope 2.2.2 and zope-pygresqlda 0.3rjr2. Missing Management Screens - which browser and zope versions?
by Albert Kinderman 21 Mar '01

21 Mar '01

Recently, there has been a thread on management screens not being visible with certain browsers. In particular, there has been mention of a particular version of a very popular browser from a large company. The solution that I have seen proposed is to upgrade the browser. My content providers are administrative assistants to Associate Vice Presidents of my University. Supplying content through the management screens is about the lowest priority job that they have. I am not in a position to tell the Associate Vice Presidents that there is a problem with their browser and the browser of their administrative assistants and that they should upgrade their browsers to fix MY problem. Currently, I am still running zope 2.0.1 and have not had a problem of this type in two years. I am afraid that if I upgrade to 2.3.x, problems might pop up. Does anyone have a list of incompatible browser and zope version combinations? If the incompatible browser is incompatible with all versions of zope, then I can assume that none of my content providers is using that browser and I can upgrade safely. I know we can blame the browser for breaking the management screens, but that does not provide a solution in many situations. change document permissions
by Peter Breuer 21 Mar '01

21 Mar '01

i want to generate a document and change permissions for that document without using the manage-screen. Generating the document worked fine - it copies a default document to a new generated document-object: <dtml-call "manage_addProduct['OFSP'].manage_addDTMLDocument('pre_article','Preliminary article',default_pre_article)"> now an existing role (f. e. Owner) should be able to get 'Change DTMS Documents' right for that document-object. I assume <dtml-call "pre_article.manage_permission()"> will do the job. But it requires parameters and I couldn't find documentation on how to use it. Any idea? The RESPONSE object
by Karl Munroe 21 Mar '01

21 Mar '01

The Zope Quick Reference version 0.9 lists the RESPONSE variable as having an attribute "set(name, value)" that sets a variable in the request. I tried to use this method to set some variables and the redirct like so: <dtml-call "RESPONSE.set('myVariable', myVariableValue)"> <dtml-call "RESPONSE.redirect(URL1+'/SomeDtmlMethod')"> When I execute the above code I get the following error message Error Type: AttributeError Error Value: set What I would like to achieve is an automatic redirect with my submitted form variable in the new request.

Zope vs. other app servers. Any comparison available?
by Satheesh Babu 21 Mar '01

21 Mar '01

Hi, We use Zope a lot. However, there are some schools of thought that since MacroMedia has bought Allaire, it is going to be *the* web app development platform (personally, I think you can't compare Cold Fusion to Zope). So, are there any web sites that compare Zope vs. ASP, PHP, Cold Fusion, Java app servers? If this is "suite" friendly, better! Even other wise, if you've any pointers to existing documents, that would be of great help. TIA V. Satheesh Babu sbabu(a)tnc.org

Where domain names point
by Peter Bengtsson 21 Mar '01

21 Mar '01

At work we now have heaps of domain names that point to different boxes all around and we have not proper record of this. Even I - a developer - have help reminding our sys admin where certain domains and hostnames point. Has anybody got a product ready to document this on intranets or something? If not, I might put something together sometime this week. <BR> Peter

Re: AW: AW: AW: [Zope] Searching the Catalog

On Wed, 21 Mar 2001, Marc Fischer wrote: > But now :-) How to avoid duplicate results ??? There is no simple way :( You need to init a dictionary, run through the combined results and put results into a dictionary, using URL as a key. Dictionary will automatically cope with duplicate keys (URLs). But some duplicates still will be there. For example, a call to a Folder (http://my.site/XYFolder/) will actually render its index_html. Now see: the URL http://my.site/XYFolder/index_html is different... but the rendered object is the same. So URL is not the best dictionary key. May be object's absolute_url() or such. Anyway it is not simple and I recommend you to ignore dup results in your OR searches. This makes the life (of programmer) much simpler :) Oleg. ---- Oleg Broytmann http://phd.pp.ru/ phd(a)phd.pp.ru Programmers don't die, they just GOSUB without RETURN.

After commenting it I am able to add my modified LDAPAdapter product. Is there any documentation how manage_tabs are now working in 2.3.0 Zope version? In other pthon products I can see that in dtml file which is used for adding of product instance there is no <dtml-var manage_tabs>. I can see it in others only. Is there any constraint for using of manage_tabs?
