And now my problem, I would like to call a method MA (from A) in the template which is rendered when I try to add instance of B(A) over web. Something like this in the template: <dtml-var "MA()"> but it raise a Zope error (it doesn't know the MA() ) Does anybody know the solution? creating a file on a client
by Tom Deprez 22 Mar '01

Hi, Is it possible to let a client-pc log into a Zope Server with a request send some information, The Zope Server handles the request and sends a file with data to a directory on the client... Is this possible? How can I let Zope put a file on a clients directory (through python.?) Thanks for any ideas. Tom.

zclasses vs objects
by Junk 22 Mar '01

22 Mar '01

hello, (again) i'd like to know where the real difference between zclasses and just a bunch of objects and propertys. zclasses do have data types, objects don't zclasses have special constructors, objects don't but (for small collections) isn't it possible to use folder + properties + objects instead of classes ? what are the real problems i'm likely to encounter doing so ? scalability ? speed ? maintenance ? thx, >junk<

problems with help file
by gerrie 22 Mar '01

22 Mar '01

Hello I compiled the Zope-2.3.0-src successfully on FreeBSD4.2, and Python2.0. All works fine, but when I keenly started running through the tutorial (Elvis site) I noticed all the references/hyperlinks to items in the Zope Tutorial Glossary are just one-letter words...I suspect they should be tags and Zope concepts like <dtml-var...> and DTML etc... for instance, Lesson 1, line 8 reads: 2. Type home.html for the document d. Is that cryptic 'd' at the end right? Is it just me or are things not making sense? I'm an absolute beginner in a sort of Catch22 any help appreciated -- ---------------------------------- E-Mail: gerrie <gerrie(a)trispen.com> Date: 22-Mar-01 Time: 12:28:00 This message was sent by XFMail ----------------------------------

Tom Deprez writes: > Is this possible? How can I let Zope put a file on a clients directory > (through python.?) Zope (and its python) live on the server. They can not reach your client directory (without the help from a program on your client). Your options: * set a content type in the generated file that tells the browser that the file should be stored and not shown, e.g.: <dtml-call "RESPONSE.setHeader('Content-Type','application')"> The browser will in this case pop up a file dialog where you can specify where to put the file. * Use a Python script (e.g. ZPublisher.Client) on your client to fetch the file and store it * Write some Java applet that fetch the file and stores it. You will need to give it high permissions (you probably will need to sign it), such that it is able to write to your local file system. For obvious security reasons, normal Java applets are not allowed to write to your file system. Dieter

Sorry... Further to my last email, man cron man 1 crontab man 5 crontab should tell you all you need to know about cron. http://www.python.org/doc/current/lib/module-httplib.html tells you about writing simple HTTP clients in Python. > My application need to send mails everyday to the people. > For that I have written one Dtml method. which will refresh every > 24hr.(using html tags.) > But for that, that page should be running in the browser always. This sounds like a job for cron: man cron man crontab If the job needs to get infomation which is held in Zope, you'd need to write a small HTTP client in Python which gets the info it needs by querying the Zope server just as if it was a web browser being driven by a human, formats it, and sends the email. Another approach would be to look into xmlrpc. But understand: the client works _outside_ of Zope. This is necessary to run it as a cron job, which is the best way to run a timed process under Unix/Linux. Good luck! -Andy PS: Please don't send HTML email to the list! :-) -- Andy Gimblett <andy.gimblett(a)ftech.net> Programmer Frontier Internet Services Limited <www.frontier-internet.ltd.uk> Tel: 029 20 820 044 Fax: 029 20 820 035 Statements made are at all times subject to Frontier's Terms and Conditions of Business, which are available upon request.
