asyncore.poll
by Randall F. Kern 14 Mar '01

14 Mar '01

Recently my development site has started getting _really_ slow a few times a day. Stopping and restarting Zope makes it quick again. When it's in this slow state, I open a python interpreter and run Zope.debug() to get profile information. This profile shows a huge amount of time being spent in asyncore.poll() (like 25 seconds on a 25.2 second request). I'm running ZEO and Zope 2.3.1b1 on Linux. Any ideas? Thanks, -Randy

update on 2.3.1 b2...
by Brian Lloyd 14 Mar '01

14 Mar '01

FYI - I mentioned yesterday that we were planning to get the 2.3.1 beta 2 release out today (Wed). For any who may have been waiting expectantly, I'm pushing this off until tomorrow so that we can track down a few last-minute test failures that cropped up. Stay tuned... Change password
by Daniel Rusch 14 Mar '01

14 Mar '01

Yes it is in the acquistion path, it is a root level property! I know that is what the problem appears to be, but how can changing a password cause it not to find a root level password??????? Your problem is that it cant find BoxName, is that visible in the Acquistion? -- Andy McKay. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Daniel Rusch" <drusch(a)globalcrossing.com> To: <zope(a)zope.org> Sent: Monday, March 12, 2001 3:28 PM Subject: [Zope] Manage > All, > > Zope 2.3.0 (binary release, python 1.5.2, solaris-2.6-sparc) > Python Version 1.5.2 (#8, Nov 16 1999, 10:05:41) [GCC 2.8.1] > System Platform sunos5 > > We have a page that allows users to change their password it executes > the following: > > > <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('name', login_name)"> > <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('password', password)"> > <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('confirm', confirm)"> > <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('roles', > acl_users.getUser(login_name).getRoles())"> > <dtml-call "acl_users.manage_users(submit='Change', REQUEST=REQUEST)"> > > > The password is changed and the user is taken to a page that notifies > them that their password was changed, but when the user tries to > navigate to any page instead of getting an Authentication dialog, they > get a NameError for a variable that is (or should be) there. > > It is as if the Name Space is lost? XML Doc and speed
by Chris Gray 14 Mar '01

14 Mar '01

I've been playing around with the XML Document Product again and I've run into a limitation that I have run into before: large XML documents process slowly. Getting data out of an XML Document is much slower than fetching data from an external relational DB. The trouble is that I have a large number of records that are hierarchically structured. Getting the data into XML is a lot easier than using SQL where the structure of each record demands that each record get spread out over a dozen or so tables. I'm doing this in one large XML file with the children of the root element each representing a record. Would I gain any speed by giving each record a separate XML Document? Thanks, Chris

Zope and J2EE
by Gregory_Propf-Contractor＠stricom.army.mil 14 Mar '01

I have been reading about Jython and would like to know if anyone is considering porting Zope to J2EE as Jython would seem to allow this through compiling Python source down to Java beans, servlets and such. Anyone know what the technical issues are? What are people's thoughts about this idea? Background, my company is making a big J2EE push but we are also in desperate need of a good content management system. Zope seems the perfect thing but I am being told off because "it's not Java". - Greg

ZCatalog
by Antonio Costa 14 Mar '01

Hi there- The problem is this! When I want to remove an object from the catalog by doing: 1.dic._delObject(o_id, '') 2.Products.ZCatalog.ZCatalog.ZCatalog.uncatalog_object(self.catalogo, o_id) I romove it from the Zope and the catalog but it continues appearing in my searches. I have to manually go to the catalog and do Advanced->Update Catalog. Is there any other way of doind this automatically in python? Thanks in advance. Simple ZCatalog question
by Tim Moore 14 Mar '01

14 Mar '01

OK, I searched through how-tos and any other documentation I could find, but I couldn't come up with an answer to this simple question, so I'm afraid I have to turn to the list. I'm trying to query a ZCatalog for objects where a particular property (which I'm cataloging as a FieldIndex) is not empty. I can't figure out for the life of me what the syntax to do this is :-) thanks in advance, -- Tim Moore
