[OT] Zope Designer For Hire
by Michael R. Bernstein 06 Mar '01

06 Mar '01

Hi all, I realize this is a little off-topic, but I figured I'd give it a shot anyway. I am a web-designer that has recently been 'downsized', and I'm looking for a new employer. I'm located in Las Vegas, NV, and would prefer not to relocate, but would be open to telecommuting. Resume and URL's available on request. Please reply off-list. And now, back to your regularly scheduled program. Thank you, Michael Bernstein.

RE: [Zope] Getting client browser type
by Etienne Labuschagne 06 Mar '01

Hi there I have thought of that, but doesn't those change with every new release of a specific browser? I guess one will just have to keep up to date with the browser type strings for every new browser launched :( Thanks anyway Etienne -----Original Message----- From: Chris Withers [mailto:chrisw@nipltd.com] Sent: Monday, March 05, 2001 3:13 PM To: Etienne Labuschagne Cc: Zope user list (E-mail) Subject: Re: [Zope] Getting client browser type Etienne Labuschagne wrote: > > Hi there > > How do I get the client's browser type (IE, Navigator, etc). [ANNOUNCE] Zope Admin Guide Project
by Will Dennis 06 Mar '01

06 Mar '01

"...and the Lord spake, saying, 'First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin, then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shalt be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shalt be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thou foe, who being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it.'" Yes, all complex systems need instructions, lest we blow ourselves into tiny bits. For too long, our favorite application server platform has lacked a comprehensive administrator's reference manual. Right then! Presenting the: *** Zope Administrator's Guide (ZAG) Documentation Project *** From the Scope description: "The ZAG should cover installation, maintenance, backups, upgrading, integrating Zope with web servers, using ZEO, Zope logs, Zope database maintenance (ie packing), troubleshooting, installing and upgrading products, compiling Zope, initial manager creation. "The ZAG should not cover using Zope, or developing for Zope. For example, the ZAG probably shouldn't cover creating user accounts, or controlling permission/role settings." We're looking for a few good writers, editors and reviewers (anyone who's interested, really) to help out with this important documentation project. If you have Zope installation/administration experience to share, and an ability to write in a clear manner, this documentation project needs your input. Please visit the Zope Administrator's Guide project page at: http://www.zope.org/DocProjects/AdminGuide/Project/FrontPage Thanks!

RE: [Zope] ANNOUCE Dtml-Contract

I'm wondering if I've found a bug in the recently-announced PageContract product... I'm running Zope 2.3.0 on Red Hat 6.2, using Python 2.0 - which may, IIRC, be more picky about certain things you could get away with in 1.5? Hi, I am Patrick and I'm running zope on FreeBsd. What I now want to do is create a sort of database whereby users can login onto a central page and then see pages with info that has been categorised such that one has a choice from a number of topics much like the general login manager on www.zope.org that takes users to their member pages. I have thought of using zcatalogues and folders with a topic string property so that a page just loads info from a particular folder. However, I am a zope newbie and though I have read the zope book but have no real idea on how I can go about with this. So, I was hoping that you could get me some ideas on the basic plan for the site, or an explanation on how it's done on zope.org for example or both as in: 1- what are my best options for the database itself (like a unix password file, other file with info, personal acl folders etc 2- how would I catrgorize my content and then have it displayed on the screen say like the adverts on yahoo that keep refreshing themselves on a small bar-like area of the screen. 3- how would I make sure that the user sees only what (s)he wants ... in short, how do I get started? Thanks for any help you can give. Patrick.

Dictionaries in DTML
by John R. Daily 06 Mar '01

06 Mar '01

I'm perplexed by dictionary handling in DTML. >From a Python Script, I'm returning a dictionary. The Zope Book and other DTML documentation refers to a mapping attribute in <dtml-in>, but provides no examples, and I'm afraid I can't get anything to work, with or without that attribute. I've even stripped out access to the values, and still nothing works. I've created a simple Python script ("return_dict"): --- return { "foo" : "bar", "input" : "output" } --- And a simple DTML script: --- <dtml-in expr="return_dict()" mapping> foo </dtml-in> --- With or without the mapping attribute, that gives me a KeyError: 0, with the problem occuring in DT_In.py, in renderwob(). What am I doing wrong, and moreover, once I'm doing it right, how do I access the values? -- -- John R. dtml-tree
by nuno 06 Mar '01

06 Mar '01

Hi all !! I'm trying to use the dtml-tree tag for displaying my folder site structure ! The problem is that i want to display only a part of my site structure, so i have tried something like this: <dtml-with "PARENTS[0].SITE.DIR1.DIR2"> -> Path from where i want to show the structure <dtml-var browse> -> the DTML-method that does the display of the tree </dtml-with> the funny thing is that, if i do a view in zope of the DTML-method browse directly it works, but it fails when i call the method from other place. Has anyone had a similar problem ? thanks for all effort, and best regards Nuno

How to run Zope?
by Dario Lopez-Ksten 06 Mar '01

06 Mar '01

Hello! we are trying to figure out the best way to run Zope behind apache. Background: We have a machine that will run Zope. Zserver is running all the time. We want to use Apache to serve Zope and other static/php/perl things as well. We also need to use SSL with Zope and apache seem a better choice thatn using SSL-enabled Zserver (more proven, more stable). So, question: What is the recommende way to server Zope behind Apache, with URL-rewriting, possible multiple site-hosting, etc. Is it as a CGI? If so which one? Is it using Apache acting as a proxy to Zope? Is it using any of the available Apache-Zope modules? or something else? we are confused; we have read the howtos available, but we are not able to understand the proper way. Obviously there are different requirements for differents scenarios, but it is hard to understand which senario applies to what situation. Also, we do not fully understand the consequences of the varioius methods available. Any help is as usual appreciated. /dario PS: a howto may come out of this question. - -------------------------------------------------------------------- Dario Lopez-Kästen Systems Developer Chalmers Univ. of Technology dario(a)ita.chalmers.se ICQ will yield no hits IT Systems & Services
