Apparently, the "locale" code under FreeBSD is not correct. You may search the (searchable) list archive for traces of our discussion. I can not remember the details. Dieter

ANNOUCE Dtml-Contract
by ender 05 Mar '01

05 Mar '01

Introducing the dtml-contract tag, the swiss army knife of dtml, it documents, it validates, it does form processing, it redirects, it reduces the amount of dtml you need to write, and if you ask nicely it might even do your laundry. All of this and more for that amazing price of free. ats its heart this utilitarian tag is a form processor based on the ArsDigita Community System's ad_page_contract. take a simple dtml form processing method <dtml-comment> this method changes the myint property of this object </dtml-comment> <dtml-if "REQUEST.has_key('myint')"> <dtml-try> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('myint', _.int(myint)"> <dtml-except> Please enter an integer value for myint </dtml-try> <dtml-else> Please enter an integer value for myint </dtml-if> <dtml-call "manage_changeProperties({'myint':myint})"> all of this for a simply trying to get a variable coerced and displaying a userful error message to the user, add in a few more variables and the amount of code just grows. sophisiticated zopitista's might say, well just use ZPublishers coercion functions, and write <input type="string" name="myint:int"> but there are a couple problems with this. 1. error messages are unhelpful, zpublisher will short circuit so you won't get information about errors with all variables 2. because this information is transmitted via the http request, its vulnerable to url surgery. 3. its hard to customize and add your own conversion utilities, error messages, or error pages. so how does dtml-contract save the day? dtml-contract in action <dtml-contract> this method changes the myint property of this object <dtml-params> myint:integer <dtml-exception> error_page </dtml-contract> with this we've setup a method which is documented, expects a variable myint in the request, will automatically try to convert it to an integer, and if doesn't exist will return an evaluation of error_page. we've already cut down on the lines of dtml-code, plus we won't get the insertion of extra blanks commonly associated with coding in dtml. now imagine extending our simple example to a real app with several form variables and the utility of dtml-contract becomes more apparent. i could wax poetic about the myriad features of dtml-contract, but the day is short and i must drive to the python conference so here's a quick laundry list. features - comes with 10 filters including -newobid -obid -range(type, min, max) -optional -trim -nohtml -email -date -float -naturalnum - comes with extensive in source documentation in javadoc style - comes with extensive readme docs - takes optional argument to remove all non-contracted variables from the request (request.form to be specific). - takes optional arguements to redirect instead of writing directly to the connection on errors - sets error information in the error_handlers namespace (as contract_errors) - has utility functions for registering user defined filters. act now and i'll even toss in some unittests. http://www.zope.org/Members/k_vertigo/ZopeProducts/PageContract cheers kapil thangavelu off to the python conference.

Problem starting zope on Win98
by Ben Edwards 05 Mar '01

05 Mar '01

I have installed zope on a 500mhz laptop with 64MB. When I run start.bat the server, ftp and pcgi comes up but when I type http://192.168.0.11:8080 (my ip address:80) or http://localhost:8080 or http://green:8080 (machine name) I get can't find server. Don't know if this is relevant but start.bat brings up a command window, runs the python program (outputting host names and ports for the three 'services') and douse not return to the dos prompt. I assume this is because it is not ruining in background in the same way it douse on NT. disable WebDAV and XML-RPC?
by Ragnar Beer 05 Mar '01

05 Mar '01

Howdy! Following the "deny everything that isn't explicitly allowed" policy I'd like to disable WebDAV and XML-RPC access to Zope. Is ist possible to disable them in Zope or do I have to catch the requests before they reach Zope? Ragnar

RE: [Zope] manage_changeProperties example needed

Did you hear the story about the boy who cried "Wolf\!". I found the answer to my question. I have to treat the tokens like a list. http://www.zope.org/Members/cba/tokens_usage Thanks for reading. Troy -----Original Message----- From: Farrell, Troy [mailto:troy.farrell@wilcom.com] Sent: Monday, March 05, 2001 9:32 AM To: 'zope(a)zope.org' Subject: [Zope] manage_changeProperties example needed The Zope Help/API docs/PropertySheet page says that I can use manage_changeProperties: manage_changeProperties(REQUEST=None, **kw): I always see people using it like this: manage_changeProperties(REQUEST) The help file says I can use name=value pairs, but I can't seem to implement this. I don't understand the format it wants. I've tried the following: logfile.propertysheets.NetShowLogFileProperties.manage_changeProperties(None , logfile_line_ids = current_logfile_line_ids + ' ' + logfile_line_id) logfile.propertysheets.NetShowLogFileProperties.manage_changeProperties(REQU EST, logfile_line_ids = current_logfile_line_ids + ' ' + logfile_line_id) logfile.propertysheets.NetShowLogFileProperties.manage_changeProperties(REQU EST=None, logfile_line_ids = current_logfile_line_ids + ' ' + logfile_line_id) But each one returns 'illegal argument type for built-in operation' for this line in my Python Script. I don't know if you can tell, but I am only interested in changing the property 'logfile_line_ids'(tokens type). As it is probably evident, I don't understand the meaning and function of parameters like 'REQUEST=None' and '**kw' (that looks like a pointer to a char array :) Thanks for any pointers, Troy _______________________________________________ Zope maillist - Zope(a)zope.org http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope ** No cross posts or HTML encoding! ** (Related lists - http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-announce http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-dev )

RE: [Zope] How to check for a folder's existence and create it if it doesn'texist?

try something like this, assuming the id of the folder you want is 'myFolder': <dtml-if expr="'myFolder' not in objectIds('Folder')"> <dtml-call expr="manage_addFolder('myFolder', 'title of my new folder')"> </dtml-if> The problem with using <dtml-in> is it will try to add the new folder once for every folder in the parent folder, and will fail to create the folder if the parent folder is empty. -Randy > -----Original Message----- > From: Paul Zwarts [mailto:paul.zwarts@oratrix.com] > Sent: Wednesday, February 28, 2001 8:55 AM > To: Chris Muldrow > Cc: zope(a)zope.org > Subject: Re: [Zope] How to check for a folder's existence and > create it > if it doesn'texist? > > > Hi! > > Perhaps something like this: > > <dtml-in expr="objectValues('Folder')"> > <dtml-if id==2001> > Matches > <dtml-else> > <dtml-call > "nameofFolder.manage_addFolder('titleofFolder', 'something > else?')"> > </dtml-if> > </dtml-in> > > You'll have to check if that actually works, because somehow > it seems wrong... > but anyhow, It should be enough to go on.... > > Im pretty much a newbie, but I had alot of help from the list > today, so I try > to return the favour : ) > Cheers, > Paz > > > Chris Muldrow wrote: > > > I'm trying create a method to go through a site and create > certain folders > > if they don't already exist. Are you on the zope mailing list? thats the best place for this type of question. Ive CCed that list for this reply. A short answer to your query: Put the contents of the zip file inside your 'Products' directory. Restart Zope, and you should see the new product listed in Control Panel. > -----Original Message----- > From: Christian Bock [mailto:c.bock@topnet.de] > Sent: 05 March 2001 14:49 > To: Toby Dickenson > Subject: Zope.org feedback > > > URL: http://www.zope.org/Members/htrd/NTUserFolder/README.txt > Hello, > > i'm new with Zope and i can't find any information how to > install tools/addons like yours. > Even with the informations on your site, i don't know, how to > handle the zipped files. > > It would be great, if you could help me. > Greetings > Christian Bock >
