very cool. first impression :- it does make making zope products easier. i will give it a shot and hope that i can churnout zope products like you experienced mages :) this is similar to mkzprod... almost, except that mkzprod is zclass like. thanks -----Original Message----- From: Paul T <paul(a)pault.com> To: zope-announce(a)zope.org <zope-announce(a)zope.org> Cc: zope(a)zope.org <zope(a)zope.org>; Chris McDonough <chrism(a)digicool.com> Date: Monday, March 05, 2001 6:00 AM Subject: [Zope] ANNOUNCE. Mixing VirtualHostMonster, ProxyPass and RewriteRules
by Itai Tavor 05 Mar '01

05 Mar '01

Hi, I'm using ProxyPass and VirtualHostMonster to serve Zope with Apache, and I want to add the force-manage-on-https trick that was mentioned recently, as well as serve some static Apache content. My problem is that I need to use RewriteRules to achieve these things, and RewriteRules don't seem to work alongside ProxyPass. I guess I could replace the ProxyPass with rewriteRules for accessing the Zope server, but then I lose the transparent proxy. And that would be a shame. My main server config is: <VirtualHost _default_:80> RewriteEngine on RewriteLog logs/rewrite_log RewriteLogLevel 9 RewriteRule ^/manual(.*) /manual/$1 [L] # Access Apache's manual RewriteRule manage(.*)$ / [F] # Block access to management screens ProxyPass / http://localhost:8080/VirtualHostBase/http/10.0.1.20:80/ ProxyPassReverse / http://localhost:8080/VirtualHostBase/http/10.0.1.20:80/ ProxyPass /misc_ http://localhost:8080/misc_ ProxyPass /p_ http://localhost:8080/p_ ProxyVia on </VirtualHost> But the RewriteRules are being ignored. They work ok if I disable the ProxyPass directives. Apparently not. It seems, you are using "manage_addTinyTable". Your Z instances lack such a method. Thus, acquisition jumps in and you get the method of the folder above. This method, of course, adds in the folder not in you Z instance. You can try "manage_addProduct['TinyTable'].... (you must replace the last three periods with the constructor name). Dieter

Using "external" components such as MySQL (was: [Zope] dd)
by Dieter Maurer 04 Mar '01

Patrick Miller writes: > how do I tell zope which python to use. and add the zmysqlda to it? The script "start" controls which Python is used. The environment variable "PYTHONHOME" (defined in "start") controls where the Python infrastructure is searched for. You can use the environment variable "PYTHONPATH" to let Python look at additional places for modules and packages. PYTHONPATH is a colon separated list of directories. Alternatively, you can make appropriate symbolic links to the external components (usually in "<zope_dir>/lib/python". Dieter

Re: [Zope] Problem with manage_ChangeProperties

Put it into the Collector: after "manage_changeProperties" almost completely did its work, it wants to return "manage_propertiedForm". This objects wants to use "manage_page_header". However, apparently, this object is not accessible via your "doc". As a workaround, you have two options: 1. pass the properties as keyword arguments: doc.manage_changeProperties(foo=bar) 2. catch ("dtml-try ... dtml-except") the exception and ignore it. Dieter

MySQL, ZMYSQLDA and date fields
by Salvatore Sciacco 04 Mar '01

04 Mar '01

Hello, I've a MySQL table with some datetime fields (not null). By default MYSQL put '0000-00-00 00:00:00' (a zero date) in these field. When this happen I can't select these fields anymore because Zope raise an invalid date format exception. Do you know a workaround for this problem? Thank you. -- Best regards, Salvatore Sciacco mailto:sas@prometeus.net

ZClass with property linking to another object
by Ronald L. Chichester 04 Mar '01

04 Mar '01

Is there a way to have a ZClass with a property that, upon instantiation, can link the newly instantiated object to another object that already exists within the database? In other words, is there a way to establish a relationship between two objects in the database so that a search for related objects in one instance will bring up the other objects (be they the same class or not)? I have some "people" objects and I want to 'link' things about those people (i.e., things that they are responsible for or have created) in a way that I can hyperlink form the created object. Any ideas? Thanks in advance, Ron

RE: ZODBC problem (was: Preventing WebDAV locks)
by Capesius, Alan 04 Mar '01

04 Mar '01

Thanks Jeffrey, Where are these WebDAV.resource.lock() permissions? I am running both 2.2 and 2.3 Zope and cannot find this anywhere. The locks seem to be coincidental to the problem, with further testing I have determined that the Zope server itself is not locking up, but rather requests to the database (MS SQL7 via ZODBCDA) seem to be queueing up. I have several long running report queries that were recently added to the server. They do totalling within DTML to provide accounting reports. If two clients request these reports at the same time, all other SQL based access is halted until one of the queries finishes. Any query is unresponsive while the server is processing these long running queries (30 secs +). Even very short queries will not respond until the client processing the long queries frees up. I've tried increasing ZODB pool_size, but this does not help. The SQL Client is set up for TCP/IP connection to the SQL server on another box. Is there a limitation here. A fix? Or perhaps another way to connect to the SQL server than ZODBCDA? In addition, I've loaded two instances of Zope on the same server running identical configurations. One instance will stop the other instance from accessing the database. This leads me to believe it may be a bottleneck in the SQL ODBC driver. Re: [Zope] ZMySQLDa and Win32
by David Parker 04 Mar '01

04 Mar '01

Hey Robert, I managed to get it all going yesterday evening. It turns out it is not too difficult doing it this way (figuring it out was the hard part) (assumes Zope 2.3 and MySQL 3.23.33 are currently installed on Windows 2000): 1) Install Python 1.5.2 but use the bin directory in your Zope base directory as the destination path. (Where python.exe resides). This essentially adds the python components that are needed by Distutils that are not distributed as part of Zope 2.3. 2) Install ZMySQLDA-2.0.4 using standard Zope product install procedure. 3) Install Python Distutils (Distutils-1.0.1.win32.exe) http://www.python.org/sigs/distutils-sig/download.html . (Launch the Distutils exe rather than extractng 1st.) This is required for step 4. This is also why I did step 1, to allow Distutils to install properly. 4) Install MySQLdb 0.3.3 using the Windows Installer package at http://highqualdev.com/ (link from page http://dustman.net/andy/python/MySQLdb) 5) From a Python cmdline type "import _mysql". 6) Restart Zope. So far everything sems to work very well. Much faster and secure than using Access as a backend database. (MS SQL Server not an option due to price constraints). Thanks, David ----- Original Message ----- From: Robert Rottermann To: David Parker Sent: Sunday, March 04, 2001 12:02 AM Subject: Re: [Zope] ZMySQLDa and Win32 Hi David, I did install mysql for zope on an nt 2000 box. It's a coupple of weeks ago and I did not keep any notes so what I tell you is wat my stak overflow riddlel brain remembers.

Using Python Script as module?
by Janko Hauser 04 Mar '01

04 Mar '01

Hello, I try to define some helper functions inside of a `Python Script` (PS). Simplified example: # def fa(): print 'fa executed' def fb(): fa() fb() return printed # This does not work, as the PS itself is apparently not a module level namespace. I can call fa() directly, although. Is there some way to call a function defined in the PS inside another function? Is there something like the PS namespace? TIA, __Janko
