Apache+SSL+ZServer+LoginManager = S L O W ?
by J B Bell 20 Feb '01

After some weeks of exhausting development, I finally have a setup running with Zope that allows me to change Unix passwords with what I hope is some semblance of security. However, it's nightmarishly slow. Specs: Apache 1.3.14 w/mod_ssl (ssl 0.9.5a) Zope 2.3.0 Python 1.5.2 LoginManager 0.8.8b1 ZPatterns 0.4.3b2 Following the ZServer+Apache+SSL tutorial closely, I do eventually get a login page from LoginManager; the pictures seem to be part of what is slow. I get this tantalizing clue from my apache logfiles: "GET //p_/ZopeButton HTTP/1.0" All pages load up with nearly unbelievable slowness, often exhibiting speeds that creep down & down, though they do eventually load. Loading directly from the zope server is as quick as ever. If anyone has any clues, please let me know, I'm all ears. --JB (TQuid on #zope)

httplib (was re:throwing exceptions when <img src=...> does not exist)

thanks, john. this looks like the best option. uploading the files to my zope server is not really an option. i've set up database simply recording, which files are held on the external server to help (as a short-term solution) but this would prove just as tedious in the long run and there's no way i'd include this is my final build. so... i checked out httplib module (HTTP protocol client) ref: http://www.gmu.edu/mlnavbar/webdev/doc-python/lib/module-httplib.html but it doesn't seem to be supported by python methods. i've managed to create a total system so far without using any external python methods (the ones stored in an extension but this seems like the only option now. can anyone tell me if there are any alternatives? thanks if you can help, lee John wrote: > - Write an external method that goes out and checks whether the image in > question actually exists on the server. RE: zmxodbc

First off, I'm sorry if questions about ZmxODBC have gone to the list and I havn't answered them. I don't read Zope(a)zope.org anymore. As for your problem, I'm afraid I really don't know. The problem with ZmsODBC is that there are 4 parts involved in any query. The DB server, the ODBC driver, the mxODBC connector and then finally ZmxODBC. This error seems to be coming from ZmxODBC but I have no idea why. The line referenced seems to be a comment line when I look at the code. If you look at lib\python\Products\ZmxODBCDA\db.py, line 233, what do you see? What database are you trying to use? Does the same error occur when using SQLMethods? > -----Original Message----- > From: Júlio Silva [mailto:jsilva@ruido-visual.pt] > Sent: Wednesday, 21 February 2001 7:40 AM > To: djay(a)innocent.com > Subject: zmxodbc > > > Hi, > > sorry for taking your time but I'm having problems getting > zmxodbc to wor= > k. > The product installation works ok and also ok is the creation > of connecti= > ons > instances. Checking sequence-index using dtml-if
by Jeff Hotz 20 Feb '01

20 Feb '01

I only want to operate on the first 3 records returned in the ZSQL_select_images. I thought that a dtml-if test would do it based on the dtml-var sequence-index but I'm not having any luck. Any suggestions on either my logic or the implementation of it? Any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. <dtml-in ZSQL_select_images> <dtml-if expr="'<dtml-var sequence-index>' < 3"> <TR> <TD ALIGN="CENTER"> <img src= "<dtml-var image_path_prop><dtml-var FILENAME>"> <BR> <FONT SIZE="4" COLOR=<dtml-var caption_color_prop>> <B><dtml-var CAPTION></B><BR><BR><BR> </FONT> </TD> </TR> </dtml-if> </dtml-in> jeff(a)hotz.net www.hotz.net

Zope Directions Roadmap Posted
by Amos Latteier 20 Feb '01

20 Feb '01

Hello Zopistas, I am excited to announce a Zope Directions Roadmap. http://dev.zope.org/Resources/ZopeDirections.html This document summarizes current thinking at Digital Creations about where the Zope platform is going from an architectural point of view. It summarizes informal conversations that we've been having internally for the past couple months. This paper talks about how we'd like to improve Zope to make it easier for Python developers. It puts some existing initiatives (e.g. Presentation Templates, and the Content Management Framework) in context, and discusses potential future projects like moving to a component architecture. I should point out that this document is not a concrete plan so much as a statement of what's on our minds. Zope development will continue to operate openly in the fishbowl (http://dev.zope.org/) We'd love to hear what you have to say. Are we heading in the right direction? Is there something else that we should be doing instead to help developers? Let us know. (Follow up should be on the zope-dev mailing list.) And when we begin new fishbowl projects (look for a component architecture project soon) jump in and help define Zope's future! -Amos -- Amos Latteier mailto:amos@digicool.com Digital Creations http://www.digicool.com

document_src returning evaluated dtml
by Tim Hicks 20 Feb '01

20 Feb '01

I have asked this question before, but I am still no nearer finding a solution. I am running Zope 2.3.0 on a solaris box (although experience the same thing under 2.2.2 on RH Linux 6.2). I created a zclass which has base classes of 'ZObject, CatalogAwareBase, ZDTMLDocument'. In order to automatically reindex an instance when it is edited, I created my own 'my_editForm' method within the zclass and assigned it to the edit view. This form was made by taking the html source of the standard edit form page, and changing the static parts of the page (that refer to modification time, size, textarea, id, title etc) for various dtml-var inserts. Here is an extract of the form as it is now. <FORM ACTION="my_edit" METHOD="POST"> <TABLE CELLSPACING="2"> <TR> <TH ALIGN="LEFT" VALIGN="TOP">Id</TH> <TD ALIGN="LEFT" VALIGN="TOP"><dtml-var id></TD> </TR> <TR> <TH ALIGN="LEFT" VALIGN="TOP"><EM>Title</EM></TH> <TD ALIGN="LEFT" VALIGN="TOP"> <INPUT TYPE="TEXT" NAME="title" SIZE="40" VALUE="<dtml-var title>"> </TD> </TR> <tr> <th align="left" valign="top"> <em>Size</em> </th> <td align="left" valign="top"> <dtml-var get_size> bytes </td> </tr> <tr> <th align="left" valign="top"> <em>Last modified</em> </th> <td align="left" valign="top"> <dtml-var bobobase_modification_time> </td> </tr> <TR> <TD COLSPAN="2" ALIGN="CENTER"> <TEXTAREA NAME="data:text" WRAP="Off" COLS="<dtml-if dtpref_cols><dtml-var dtpref_cols><dtml-else>80</dtml-if>" ROWS="<dtml-if dtpref_rows><dtml-var dtpref_rows><dtml-else>12</dtml-if>"><dtml-var document_src></TEXTAREA> </TD> </TR> <TR> <TD align=left> <INPUT NAME=SUBMIT TYPE="SUBMIT" VALUE="Change"> </TD> <TD align=left> <INPUT NAME=SUBMIT TYPE="SUBMIT" VALUE="Taller"> <INPUT NAME=SUBMIT TYPE="SUBMIT" VALUE="Shorter"> <INPUT NAME=SUBMIT TYPE="SUBMIT" VALUE="Wider"> <INPUT NAME=SUBMIT TYPE="SUBMIT" VALUE="Narrower"> </TD> </TR> </TABLE> </FORM> As far as I can tell, the edit page seems to work fairly well. I'm pretty sure that the correct 'size' and modification time gets inserted, and the 'id' and 'title' are definitely correct. And, for the most part, the <dtml-var document_src> works as expected as well. However, if there is a <dtml-call "RESPONSE.redirect('http://www.mysite.com')"> in the source of the zclass instance, the redirect gets executed every time I try to simply edit the instance! Even more strangely, if the redirect call is within other bits of dtml logic that evaluate to false (and thus result in the redirect not being called when the instance is viewed), the redirect does not occur when attempting to edit either. In an effort to find a way around this, I have tried several things including; - using <dtml-var "document_src()"> - using <dtml-var "document_src()" html_quote> - using <dtml-var "document_src(REQUEST,RESPONSE)"> - using <dtml-var "document_src(REQUEST,RESPONSE)"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('Content-Type', 'text/html')"> - using <dtml-var "PrincipiaSearchSource()"> - using <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('thesource', _['document_src'])"><dtml-var thesource> in each case, the same thing happens [N.B. I'm not totally sure I've got the syntax exactly correct for the last one]. So, I guess my question is, why is the document_src getting evaluated instead of just sent the page as normal text? This works properly when I try to do it with a normal DTML Document; why does my zclass behave differently? Cheers for any help Tim

Re: [Zope] newbie: extending the Image class?

Chris Cioffi writes: > i'd like to find out how to extend the Image class in Zope to include a few > more properties. Any pointers to documentation would be appreciated. There is a HowTo on "zope.org" on how to build product, something like "Product developpers guide". Be careful to get the latest one. I have seen a post (-> searchable mailing list archive) with the URL for the various product documentation URL's. Dieter
