[SOLVED with comment] TOAD Issues with 8.1.7, MTS, and more

What is your > client-side software, OS, Oracle client, etc. Yes, indeed it was the server. Somehow, when our DBA upgraded to 8.1.7, the data dictionaries got all messed up, and there were a lot of indexes missing or just fscked up. When rebuilt, the problems disappeared. Thanks for the input I got. For the record: Solaris (2.6/7?) Sun OS, 5.6 Generic_105181-21 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-4 4-CPU Sun 450. Client: W2k, 8.1.6 client. TOADs: latest beta as well as toad 6.5 release. Now for the comment: it would be nice if toad didn't completely hang when encountering errors of this kind, i.e it is ok for it not to respond input while waiting for the server response, but I think it should not be hanging (as in "windows reports that the program is not responding"). I don't know if this is possible given toad's current architechture, but this error also occured when we had a phantom process locking up one of the packages (different server and oracle version). when I tried to recompile the package toad just completetly hung up on me. After something like 5-10 minutes it came back, but the package was not recompiled and there where no errors reported. I tried to recompile the package from source with SQL*Plus, and after a couple of minutes I got a timeout error (twice) before the commaned execution ended. HOWEVER when I tried to drop the package, toad gave me an error (the timeout error) quite swiftly, so somehow it seems that there is some mechanism of catching timeout errors, that seems not to be used when compiling source. Well, other than that, TOAD still rocks :-). And, now that I've re-discovered that TOAD is not the culprit, I can go back to the beta-version once more :-) Sincerely, /dario

You don't need PyXML for the current beta, but you do need to compile Expat, which is included with the Parsed XML distribution. -- Karl Anderson karl(a)digicool.com

throwing exceptions when <img src=...> does not exist
by Lee 20 Feb '01

20 Feb '01

hi, i have a little problem re: img and dtml-try tags: there are images stored on an external server - these are named after student's universtity usernames e.g. lreilly.gif. represents moi, lee reilly. the problem is that it is not guaranteed that such an image is stored for *every* student so i want to do something like... <dtml-try> <img src="d:\<dtml-var uname>.gif" width="240" height="180"> <dtml-except> <img src="d:\dilbert.gif" width="240" height="180"> </dtml-try> i.e. if the student gif exists display it otherwise display the file dilbert.gif. if the files were stored on zope then modifying the <img> tags to plain <dtml-var uname> would work fine except that (i) they're not stored on my server (ii) <dtml-var uname> would display the username and not the image (id=username) - i think this can be overcome though. is there anyway to adapt the above code to actually *throw* an exception when the image is not located. the results of the above code are as follows: if the files exist => it is displayed if the file doesn't exist => nothing is displayed anybody have any thoughts / advice? cheers, lee -- Lee Reilly mailto:lee.reilly@ntlworld.com http://www.footkick.co.uk

I'm normally a Gnome sort of person, so I haven't touched Konq for a LONG time. Last I played with it, it felt pretty raw, but I've heard all sorts of nice things about it lately. Mozilla is also (finally) starting to shape up. I've have really good luck with the 0.7 release. One it's up, it renders nicely and seems to interact with Zope well. It is a pig, though. I have LinuxPPC running on a G4 450, and it does really well there. But my primary development box at work is a PII 350, and Mozilla on that box is frustratingly slow to start. Galeon (http://galeon.sourceforge.net) is nice, and zipper than Mozilla. But it has some occasional strange issues with the Zope management interface. I was using it as my regular browser, but (happily) I've been doing so much Zope development recently that I've switched back to strait mozilla. I do like Mozilla a lot better than NS for Zope development, if only for the fact that it gives me a much better idea of how things are going to render on IE than NS4.5.x does... > Saying that, I have not tried Opera in some time... perhaps they've > addresses some of THEIR issuse... it could be worth a > try...http://www.opera.com Would be interested to hear how well it interacts w/Zope... > Have a better one, > Curtis Maloney. //glw
