Hi everyone, I was a Java addict until I discovered Python and Zope. I am just getting into Zope, trying to put together a contact manager app as an exercise. I have a few questions: a) The contact manager will hold information for contacts(people) within organizations(companies); organizations will be categorized by predefined industries, etc. I am not sure how to model this; I am still a bit confused about how to approach a problem in Zope; it's so different... My first idea was this: - Create an 'Organization' ZClass, in which there is a 'Contact' ZClass - Create an 'Industry' ZClass Then: - Create an 'Organizations' folder (contains Organization instances) - Create an 'Industry' folder (contains Industry instances) Now, my question is this: how do I relate an organization instance to an industry instance? How do I materialize that possibility through the UI - I mean, how do I show the different industries in a listbox in the Organization's create/update screens? I am still quite confused about how objects in given folders have access to objects in other folders. Could someone help me on this - an example may be? b) Objects, references and ZODB Suppose I successfuly assign an industry object to an organization object, how is that persisted in ZODB? I mean, does the organization object only keep a persistent reference to the industry object, or does it copy the industry object entirely? What is the proper way to handle such cases in Zope? c) "mutable sub-objects should be treated immutably" - from a ZODB point of view. I am not sure I completely understand this (I understand mutable and immutable allright, but I do not see what makes a mutable object being treated immutably, and how/why it affects ZODB). My Streaming Provider makes the logs available on an ftp server. I don't see any potential security violations (zope's paranoid sometimes) so it should be possible. This seems to be a difficult task in zope because, like Joh said, very simple processes have to be externalized (e.g. external methods) Well, once I start using external processes my code get's fragmented and scattered over scripts in various external folders. My vision, and that's why I'm using zope and not php, is to keep my code in one place (the zope object database file data.fs) and object oriented (it's a bummer to always change code in various places). AuthName and Z_REALM

I know I've seen a good reply here on the zope mailinglist about how to change the login realm using Apache-VirtualHosts-Proxypassing. What I want is that, when "going /manage" at any place on the server, it should still say Realm: Zope on the little box that the web browser shows whilst asking for username and password. Except! When you go to one of those folders in my site that's using a SiteRoot together with a VirtualHost in httpd/conf. How do I do this? zope-2.2.5, zcatalog and random key error

hi i've commited myself, and took the plunge. i use zope-2.2.5 and zcatalog to serve news articles. articles are catalogaware, and catalog itself when added. navigation, presentation relies on zcatalog. which is good and fast. what's not good though is that i still get the random key error. updating the catalog clears everything up. what caused this error? this is bad, when users come to a page and is greeted with key error. very baad. i'm not sure whether this is cleared in 2.3.x. i think i saw this error once at zope.org what are your experiences? my neck is on the chopping block now :( i hope to try 2.3.x soon, but i'll need to test that out on a dev machine first. help..? thanks
