Stresstest
by Stephan Goeldi 17 Feb '01

17 Feb '01

I would like to stress test Zope and Apache and to compare test results. The results should be as realistic as possible, e.g. combination of parallel accessing Zope/Perl/PHP/static Apache etc. What stress test software for Linux and WinNT can users of this list suggest? -goe- _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.

ZPoPy
by Randall F. Kern 17 Feb '01

Using ZPoPyDA 1.1-pre2 and PoPy-2.0.1: I want to get the number of rows affected by an UPDATE statement. This seems impossible, because ZPoPy closes the cursor inside of DB.query(). Any work arounds, other than patching ZPoPy? Thanks, -Randy

Sorry for the long post in advance. Last time I checked this app it ran without a hitch (well almost) Testing latest GUM on several versions of Zope now gives me several errors as follows. Java and Zope
by Spinwing 16 Feb '01

16 Feb '01

Hello ok, I have managed to read the docs and found all answers to my previous (and unfortunately html tagged, sorry for that) mail. But now a more subtle question, bear with me one moment: - if I want to use servlets, theorectically no problem, I can still install tomcat or whatever, use servlets, do what I want and answer back somehow to zope. That's fair enough - for more advanced things however I have to get crazy or rely on XML-RPC, which is a good thing, but after all is not 100% java compliant (am I wrong?) In any case I have to follow up with the effort of single willing programmers, and not sun or dc. Now I am asking myself: what if zope would be able to expose its interface also as java classes? Here are some questions: - do you think it is possible to write some sort of python/java wrapper so that it is possible to access zope from java natively? - what about equipping zope with a jvm, possibly jsdk2.2 compliant? after all, tomcat is open source as well... - is there already any project running that will achieve this? - if not, why not considering doing it? As a newbie to zope, I find it an amazing product, and I would almost define it a killer application, but imagine how killer can be with a native support to java as well. Some can be against it, and can claim that python and perl are farily sufficient extensions, and I perfectly agree with that, but seen the extension of the java community and the lack of an environment like zope mixed with java, I think it will worth at least thinking about it. Consider also that most of enterprises companies have already good investments in java, or are willing to do. I had an intense look at enhydra, but my stomach stil aches.....:) Any answer to my doubts will be very appreciated. Regards Stefano

How many objects can ZODB hold?
by sbabu＠tnc.org 16 Feb '01

16 Feb '01

Hi, Probably a dumb question: I know ZODB stores everything in an Object table. So, this table probably has a fixed length primary key. To maintain this, let us say there should be a counter which tracks the number of records in the table. The question is, is there any limit to this? Like Zope can hold 1million objects? Again, if that's the case and if packing does not re-assign the object id's, this 1million is superfluous because the OID for deleted objects are not reclaimed. I'm an RDBMS guy - hence this doubt. Example: Add an object A - its internal zope id is 1234 Add another object B - its internal id is 1235 Add C - internally it is 1236 Delete B. Pack it. Does it look like A - internal 1234 C - internal 1235 I know, crazy question. But we have a site which has objects added and deleted and packed at a fairly regular rate (users - lot of non-technical ones - are very much used to deleting things and adding new/fixed stuff, instead of trying to fix things to wrong ones!). I'm getting some concerns about this size now. hi, I've installed my Zope server which, in itself seems to be working fine. however, i have tried to install the portal toolkit, i.e. http://www.zope.org/Products/PTK i've downloaded various versions of the toolkit and finally found one that almost works. 0.8.2-complete (Development) it installs okay and seems to be set up fine, when i view the installed products in my control panel. however, when i try to set up a portal i get this message after the 3 stage process, ... Adding instances - How sending meta_type by argument ?
by Menard.Jean-Francois＠hydro.qc.ca 16 Feb '01

16 Feb '01

Sorry for the long post... I'm trying to create a general insert method that will be inherited by all my sub-objects. I would like to send a parameter, "type", that will determine what type of object to create. I tried this: <dtml-with "manage_addProduct['normalisation']"> <dtml-with "_[type].createInObjectManager(REQUEST['NewId'], REQUEST)"> <dtml-call reindex_object> </dtml-with> </dtml-with> And I pass the meta-type as parameter "type". I receive the following error: Error Type: AttributeError Error Value: createInObjectManager Traceback (innermost last): File D:\INTRAN~1\lib\python\ZPublisher\Publish.py, line 222, in publish_module File D:\INTRAN~1\lib\python\ZPublisher\Publish.py, line 187, in publish File D:\INTRAN~1\lib\python\Zope\__init__.py, line 221, in zpublisher_exception_hook (Object: CatalogAware) File D:\INTRAN~1\lib\python\ZPublisher\Publish.py, line 171, in publish File D:\INTRAN~1\lib\python\ZPublisher\mapply.py, line 160, in mapply (Object: insert) File D:\INTRAN~1\lib\python\ZPublisher\Publish.py, line 112, in call_object (Object: insert) File D:\INTRAN~1\lib\python\OFS\DTMLMethod.py, line 189, in __call__ (Object: insert) File D:\INTRAN~1\lib\python\DocumentTemplate\DT_String.py, line 538, in __call__ (Object: insert) File D:\INTRAN~1\lib\python\DocumentTemplate\DT_With.py, line 146, in render (Object: manage_addProduct['normalisation_externe']) File D:\INTRAN~1\lib\python\DocumentTemplate\DT_With.py, line 133, in render (Object: _[type].propertysheets.createInObjectManager(REQUEST['NewId'], REQUEST)) File D:\INTRAN~1\lib\python\DocumentTemplate\DT_Util.py, line 334, in eval (Object: _[type].propertysheets.createInObjectManager(REQUEST['NewId'], REQUEST)) (Info: type) File <string>, line 0, in ?
